Psychonauts  (Finally got access to a computer with the video card to play it, getting close to finished) NesterDC SE New NES emulator for the Dreamcast that includes screenshots, scans of instruction booklets, cartridge and box art and other cool features. (It downloads this stuff based on the roms you have and creates a disc image, so it's legal.) Jet Set Radio Recent releases Have review copies of Odama been sent out?

Hey, Mario Party is fucking fun, as long as you play it with the right people. (In fairness, five and seven are severely flawed and I haven't played the N64 editions.)

Gondry's "The Science of Sleep" is all delay and no reward, so maybe he was inspired by video games while making the movie. Games are something you play when you want to unwind, not when you want to be productive, but the good ones inspire different thoughts and strategies and hey, at least develop hand-eye coordination.

Well, in terms of gameplay it isn't outstanding, but it's got a lot of kitsch value, what with the dancing people to death, looking for little kids in closet, and Michael's "yow" before the levels begin. It's worth at least checking out during a drinking party.

Toejam & Earl is a complete blast, but I do think it's safe to consider it a two-player game. You could play it alone, I suppose, but I doubt it would be as much fun. Also, it's more fun to play so the levels are different every time. And why isn't Michael Jackson Moonwalker on any of those lists?

Sorry if I was unclear, but I was asking about the part that said scientists thought they had 5 years before a hurricane struck. I haven't seen that anywhere, and didn't see it here. Just curious how the scientists came to such conclusions.
-
Do you have a source on this? I've been reading a lot and hadn't heard this. I know I read stuff previous to the hurricane saying that the levees weren't high enough. Also, were they going to develop the wetland buffers for four years, then restore them before the big hurricane hit?

i was rather thrilled with the small size of the SP, and have fit it in pockets that also had cell phones. I think that the folding design is quite brilliant and keeps the system at a good size.* However, there's nothing wrong with making things smaller. It's certainly not worth my purchase to get a micro when I think that the SP is small enough, and I haven't held one so I don't know if the screen is big enough, but if you don't have and SP, it's probably worth it. (I'm a big proponent of the lit screen.) The DS does lessen the value of the system, but I still think it's there. *Granted, I did get my SPs for free, but this hasn't swayed my opinion.

Actually, the air traffic people said there were no actual reports of people shooting at helicopters, as they keep track of all that. But there have been snipers. And some guys at the convention center have guns have been holding everyone hostage and reportedly raping women. This didn't start until early this morning/last night, and I maintain that the violence has gotten continually worse, so it should have been calmed down earlier. Of course, gangs and the like are going to take advantage and loot, The majority of people there just want food, water, medicine and a way out, and it wasn't hard to anticipate the violence and looting that has occurred.

Um, the people of New Orleans didn't start shooting stuff and going nuts until YESTERDAY. Bush had a couple days to get things under control before people started acting like animals. The conditions there are deplorable, and as much as people shouldn't be acting like maniacs, it isn't exactly a surprise that people with no food, water or supplies are acting inappropriately.

Actually, he cut the funding for one program and ended another that could have prevented (or at the very least minimized) the damage: maintaining the levees, and preserving the wetlands that serve as a buffer zone. If that weren't bad enough, he's handled the relief so incompetently that the area has gone out of control because no one had supplies. He should resign in disgrace after seeing all the lives that he's ended and ruined.

The two words "8 slot" make a compound adjective, and should therefore be hyphenated: "8-slot bag." "8 slot bag" needs either a hyphen ("8-slot bag)" or to be pluralized ("8 slot bags"). (I don't know what a slot bag is.) Four-legged animals, 70-odd people, third-world conflict, 40-year-old virgin (the film's marketers, oddly enough, changed the film's punctuation from correct to incorrect shortly before its release.) Of course, WoW indeed calls it an "8 slot bag," so the Thumbs design is correct in that it quotes the game's terminology. As an editor, however, I would tag the phrase with "(sic)" when quoting it. I'm sure this was a really fun read.

Yeah, I was too tired to post last night, and assumed that someone else would have jumped on such a set up and I'd have lost my chance.

Yowser! It must have been a hell of an experience to lose your virginity in the pole position, with your older brother. Oh, gaming virginity. My dad brought home an Atari with a bunch of games. I remember Playing Caverns of Mars, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug and Pac Man a lot, but since I had all the games at the same time, it was more the collection than just one game.
-
And yet no one has corrected the "8 slot bag [sic]" error. I think my main accomplishment here is that I haven't been horribly insulted, presumably because I'm too insignificant a newb to be worth the time.

I think the site definitely covers a topic worth bringing attention to. I assume that the site is still in its developmental stages, and will soon include more games. The seven "art games" listed seem to have complimentary reviews in their descriptions, so I'm not sure what you mean by "not all games are quite good." The art film genre doesn't deny that films not of that genre aren't art, so I hope that the "art game" classification isn't too elitist. How do you see the site expanding?

Volvo…Volton, err…I can't remember his name, but the transvestite guy from Soul Calliber who wears the bondage and moves so bizarrely that his opponents get distracted and lose.

Thing is, if you're in a bad relationship, it's not worth sticking around because you don't think you'll find someone else, no matter whether or not you're perceived as fat and/or ugly. Sure, this relationship might not be horrible—we don't know all the details—but where do you draw the line of "Never leave him because you're not good enough for another man"? When he starts beating her? And what about ugly men, aren't they a possibility?

Yeah, the term manufacturing company implies publisher rather than distributor. I was going to ask for clarification, but doubted that it was worth it.

I thought that link was going to go to a the IT staff page.

Was this a PC game?

"Me and You and Everyone We Know" is quite brilliant. I've seen it twice, at Sundance and Cannes, and it's a fabulously odd interpretation of modern life. JIm Jarmusch's "Broken Flowers" features one of Bill Murray's best performances. I have to go catch up on mainstream releases now, as I had to do some emergency work in Ohio to help my sister, so I haven't seen anything new for the last couple weeks, except for the Island, which I saw before leaving. It didn't impress me. It started off interesting, but gradually got worse until it was complete Michael Bay crap.

I didn't get into it until about the third episode. I think it's ten times better than any of Whedon's other shows.

Does anyone now where to find a FREE Doom 2 download?

My favorite thing is that this guy's first post was locked, so he added the word "free" to his subject, just to make things clearer. Oh, and... Just wanted to be a dick... -
I think the demo was disappointing to people who wanted to see all that the game had to offer. The gradual learning process makes sense in the game, but in the demo, it would have been nice if they let people burn shit and levitate, etc. I enjoyed the demo for the art direction and the writing and all, but my friend had a similar reaction as some others because he didn't get an idea of all he'd get to do. He said, if they'd had the budget, it would have been better to have a separate level for the demo.
