  1. Who are you and what have you become?

OK, I finished Black Velvetopia. Pretty damn awesome, and indeed poignant, but it's hard to top Milkman. The twist at the end was definitely more surprising than backstage. I guess now I only have the level that everyone says is ridiculously hard. At any point does the game let you play the levels as if they haven't been cleared? I didn't save a save game at the beginning of Milkman, and want to show some people how cool it is.
  2. Oscars

That's certainly true. It's hard to even get nominated for art direction or costumes without being a period piece. (See Alex McDowell's brilliant work on "Minority Report," which wasn't even nominated a couple years back.)
  3. Excessive amount of Guitar Hero sequels

Oh, so you do shift down the neck? The picture I saw looked like you only use the first position, with the buttons on the first five frets. I dunno, I'll probably try it at a friend's place some time and see if my skills help me win.
  4. Oscars

    Williams squared?
  5. Your Animal Crossing Town

I recently got my sister a DS and Animal Crossing, but don't have one myself. I did, however, move into the house (no different houses this version) and get assigned some chores from nook before going to sleep for a prolonged period of time. (My sister lives in Chicago.) Anyway, she named her town Muskegon after the original AC town, which I started and which got her hooked on the game. (the real Muskegon is a small town in Michigan where Vaudevillians used to spend their summers. Buster Keaton considered it his hometown.) Gamecube Muskegon started with Pears and now has peaches, cherries and apples. DS Muskegon, last I checked, only has peaches. Hopefully I'll have my own DS soon.
  6. Excessive amount of Guitar Hero sequels

Yeah, I just found an image online: http://games.shizzle.be/wp-content/images/061105_guitar-hero-gitaar.jpg Looks like you just use five frets, and no different strings, so I guess that answers my question. I assume the game has more appeal to people who don't know how to play guitar but want a thrill (?). (I say this because now that I know this, I have no interest in playing the game.)
  7. Excessive amount of Guitar Hero sequels

quick question (and I haven't played the game or seen the guitar thingy in person, but have read articles about it): I assumed that the guitar device actually helped you learn guitar, but on the derailed Gondry thread someone commented that it didn't. So does the game teach you anything about playing guitar, or is it just fun?
  8. Oscars

Well, the camerawork in the film frankly sucked, so it certainly didn't deserve cinematography. It didn't even deserve to nominated. Also, its art direction and costume design looked pretty, but were boring historical recreations.
  9. Viral Market in this thread

Hi, I looking for hot Russian brides. Does anyone one know of good site on web? I have found this one and this one and this one, and think it would be fantastic to bring home hot sexy russian bride to keep warm at night and do dishes adnd household dutys. What you guys think of th sight?
  10. Oscars

Also, it was almost worth sitting through that horrible Crash musical number to see Jon Stewart take the piss out of it afterwards.
  11. Who are you and what have you become?

Those were great, but for my money, nothing beats the censor-in-disguise's comments in the Milkman Conspiracy. "Although I often smell of excrement, I should not be discriminated against as I provide a valuable service."
  12. Oscars

The Crash Best Picture win crushed my soul. It was the worst of the five nominees, hands down. The three awards for "Memoirs of a Geisha" didn't improve things.
  13. Rockstar's Table Tennis

It seems, to me, that the only way the game might capture the previously mentioned precision of table tennis is if it were done with the Revolution's controller. But who knows?
  14. All that using only your penis?
  15. It's a miracle of design. Sorry, I didn't notice the duplicate post. And I can't delete it now as it's become part of the conversation, can I?
  16. Hey, has anyone played this unreleased Sega CD "adventure" game that was apparently pulled several years ago after some gaming magazines already ran reviews? http://www.waxy.org/archive/2006/02/28/penn_tel.shtml http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1667022&perpage=40&pagenumber=1 I haven't played it yet, but it sounds a bit like an absurdist anti-game a la "Bad Day on the Midway," in which you basically wandered around with no goal and explored the area until you died. The difference is that the main game is actually a goal-oriented adventure, but the mini-games were preposterous. I don't know how fun the most famous part of the game would actually be to play, but its concept reminds me of the Thumbs news article from a while back on "Tetris 1D:"
  17. Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors

Well, I think the very premise of the show implies that it is only concerned with the facts, and not bullshit. So when they turned out to be libertarian idealogues pushing a corporate-funded think-tank agenda, I felt betrayed. I was very intrigued by some episodes that challenged my own beliefs and assumptions, but then I saw some episodes that I knew were not based on real science. After that, I did a little Google detective work and discovered that many of the political episodes featured no real scientists, only people who get paid to represent entities that support the Cato Institute style of corporate Libertarianism and inept, less-than-able representatives of the other side. Now I have trouble believing anything that I see on the show. I find the show funny and thought-provoking at times, but must warn people not to watch it with the belief that P&T are cutting through bullshit spin, because they're actually slinging it. I don't want to derail the topic with detailed discussion, but here's a blogger who breaks down some of the "experts" and misrepresentations that the show has perpetrated (start from the bottom entry—poor archival readability): http://home.houston.rr.com/skeptical/arc20030401.html (In short, this guy had previously endorsed the show, but caught it misleading on second-hand smoke's harm. He's a smoker, so he didn't care too much, but he started to notice it on more shows, with the environmental hysteria episode being the last straw.)
  18. Castlevania DS

    You just blew my mind.
  19. Quiet you. I suppose you won't be happy until you hear some actual dimensions!
  20. Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors

Yeah, there was a thing in one of those links to Penn's podcast in which he said that it was based on people who are attempting to prohibit free speech and censor video games. So his friend suggested a simulation of a boring drive that captures real life. Apparently the most exciting thing to happen is a bug that splats on the windshield. They were going to have some sort of high score contest and take people to Vegas. Sometimes I like P&T and sometimes I don't. Their show "Bullshit!" lost a lot of credibility when it started practicing some bullshit of its own rather than sticking to the facts and talking to real experts, but some of their stuff is still quite funny. This game is, if nothing else, something amusing to talk about.
  21. I'm confused. If it's just a Portable PC, why would it be Xbox-branded? I also doubt the usefulness of a device between the size of a laptop and a handheld. Once you sacrifice the functionality, you might as well go smaller. I'd rather have a keyboard if I'm going to do long-term work.
  22. Who are you and what have you become?

I finally got access to a computer that can play Psychonauts, if any of you remember my drawn-out graphics card dilemma. I'm now in Black Velvetopia and can't wait to finish and go check out all those spoiler threads that I made people post in. I got my sister a DS and "Animal Crossing" for her birthday, and will hopefully be able to afford one for myself soon. I guess I might as well wait until the DS Light comes out, as I won't have spare cash for a while. I've been emulating NES a lot on the DC (with the new NesterDC SE emulator), played the preposterous "8-player mode" in Mario Party 7 with seven friends for kicks and didn't have much time for games for a while because I started a magazine. Uh. That's about it, I s'pose. Wonk!
  23. If the real thing is half as ugly and clunky as the thing in the pictures, it'll still be jaw-droppingly ugly.
