It's French for palace. You may have heard names like palais royale?

Wow, I should get a cut from Nintendo for all the people buying DS Lites due solely (OK, maybe not) to my thread. I just wanted to show off how badass it looked in the video. I'm gonna wait until they release it in the US, because I'm low on cash now. But those who ordered should post when they get it and let me know if it is indeed awesome.

Nope, especially poor b&w Amelie, who just can't compete with her technicolor counterpart.

The advantage-in-not-killing-people method sounds interesting. Anyone know if this is just kind of a bonus when defeating the bosses or if it will be more widespread? (For example, if you don't entirely kill off the guy's army of goons before sparing his life.)

From what I can tell, he's taking a kitana blade to the woman's couch—otherwise, she wouldn't be able to keep screaming. Anyway, note that it's not the only game being played. It's kind of a something-for-everyone commercial.

Shit, I like House, but in terms of addiction it has nothing on Lost. I watched the first 32 episodes every free moment I had and stayed up all night. When I realized that episode 7 was missing from the compilation my friend gave me, I went to Wal-Mart because it was the only place open at 3am. This happened to be on the night of Thanksgiving, so I got the day-after-Thanksgiving price.

As a journalist (outside of games), I can say that this isn't necessarily incredibly common. It depends on the journalist, the editor and the fact-checking staff. Some journalists consider it bad for the integrity of the story to let the interviewee in on it before it publishes. (One of my colleagues recently changed his stance from this position to the last, most opposite position that will appear in this paragraph.) Some (and this is probably most common) only send back the specific quotes from the interviewee and not the entire article. Then the last category does send the whole article, so that the interview subjects might have some last chance at clearing up a mistake elsewhere in the article. Those who practice the last category don't seek approval of the story, just an auxiliary fact check. Personally, I've never sent in quotes for approval in the case of one-on-one interviews with creative individuals (with musicians, filmmakers, actors, etc.—I've never interviewed a designer). I generally tape record those interviews and the subjects generally don't have time to personally check my quotes. And I fail to see the value of having a PR person check someone else's quotes. When I'm doing an investigative piece that's more controversial, however, I do verify people's quotes. As an editor (and same with my experience when being edited), I tend not to send the final version to the writer unless I had to dramatically change it. Some editors don't even send it to you then.

But how much more will that edition cost? I just installed TLJ...
-
Yeah, I might be able to narrow it down to ten.

Will we be able to vote for more than one smiley? Maybe our top 3 or 5?

I don't mean to completely dismiss your point, but I would like to point out that a game's designer isn't exactly a "random guy" giving any interview s/he wants. Of course, actors appear on TV shows much more commonly than film directors, so there's some PR control as well. But if you want to ask what made the creator want to take games in this direction, what made him or her think this game is important, then you kind of need to talk to the designer. Of course, you have to hope that the designer has more to say than, "Uh, I got hired to develop this license. So I did."

Oh, it had everything to do with everything. Everything to do with everything. In the eyes of the French 250 years ago, goddamn is the basis of the English language, mofo. So it must have been around for a while before that too, n'est pas?

I'm pretty sure that Moos was being sarcastic, since Tim was a writer on the game. Just my guess...

I agree that if, as Rodi claims, words like "fuck" don't exist because there are a bunch of distracting, lame made-up swear words, that "goddamn" still isn't ruled out. If you want to goddamn something, you pretty much have to use the words god and damn. If you say, "F'illymon mackey!" then the meaning wouldn't do anything beyond being an expletive.

Right now, Amazon.com has it for $69.99. Which, given the current value of our U.S. dollar, is something like 10 pounds, I think. (Really, more like 35)

Yeah, I agree with Yufster and twmac regarding the intonation. I was thinking the same thing. I assume that he doesn't go, "I say GODDAMN!" And while I'm not a linguist, I think that if characters actually spoke English as they did in the middle ages, it wouldn't be very easy to understand. And of course they used swear words. Hell, they invented some of them! Goddamn.

Let's track him down and beat the shit out of him! I too have found it difficult to communicate with younger gamers. I remember when we were all amazed at Genesis graphics. 13-year-old boys are a key demographic in films as well, but I don't think that demographic really reads as much journalism on films. Game journalism seems to be pandering to that demographic.

Sorry, Moos. In the future, I'll try not to prove your points in such a heartbreaking manner. Also, I just added a link to the official site on my post just above this one. That should give people a better idea for the game. I take it that the first game is awesome?

I've been looking at this site for a while and still haven't found a basic concept. I've found stuff about the possibility of Mac ports. Oh! I just found a link to the TLJwiki, which informs me that this is the second installment of "The Longest Journey," so I guess I need to play that first. http://tljwiki.sphid.com/index.php?title=Main_Page EDIT: I just ordered The Longest Journey, so it better be good. http://www.dreamfall.com/

What's this game now?
-
With Wache (or, as my friend called him, Che Wavera) printed on the front!

Yeah, it's a great issue. Jordan Mechner wrote about trying to reduce cut scenes. There's a timeline board-game starting at 3000 BC. Check it out.

Since there's supposed to be N64 emulation, Saturn emulation seems possible. The big question, of course, is if Sega and/or Nintendo see it as being worth the trouble to program, considering that the Saturn wasn't terribly popular. I never had a Sega CD or Saturn, so I'd love to get my emulation on. Does the peripheral slot on the controller use the gamecube sprocket, or something else? I'm concerned about how much these various extra pieces will cost.

That's interesting to hear. My friend, who just lent me the mini series pilot thingy (which I've yet to watch), told me that I might just want to stop watching after the mini-series, as it goes downhill from there. He said that the cliffhanger at the end of season one was so uninteresting that he hadn't even brought himself to watch it yet. I guess I'll have to decide for myself, but he advised me that I may just want to imagine what happens after the pilot.

Oh. Thanks for the info, Oath. I guess that was before the keynote took place and we found out that we didn't get doodley squat.
