The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Civilized tribes and the President killed half of them during their uprooting anyway. He wasn't just talk like most people of the time were - he was a genuine destroyer on a scale not seen before him. Before him Indians were mostly displaced. He began the large number of massacres. It was his orders, that isn't romanticism by any means.

Jackson was one of the ones in my mind.. the man was a racist, murdered and dislocated hundreds of thousands of Indians, and had a poor economic plan because of his heritage (though Americas economics weren't much back then, he knew nothing about that kind of stuff, he was a former general). If Bush toppled a government for oil, Jackson toppled a people and civilization for land and ethnic cleansing. The corrupt presidents of past centuries aren't as well known as the current ones, so I don't know why I bother, but it's not true that Bush is the worst ever. http://www.pigdog.org/auto/liberty/link/2220.html I guess I'm partial to this article because I live in the Cherokee Capitol, but note that it wasn't just them that were forced out of their homes, but four other tribes as well. They had governments, homes just like the Americans, and ate with a fork, knife and spoon just like you and I. They weren't by any means savage, but had settled just like the white men and then half of them died when the US army herded them into present-day Oklahoma. He also tracked down and murdered any other tribes that refused to settle in the reservations (which were constantly being reduced in size as more were herded into them). Does Bush own slaves? Jackson did. He probably abused them with his own hands when they got out of line. Whether it was a sign of the times or not, it was still wrong and many people of the time knew it.

If you really look into US history - he's not the worst President ever. As much as I don't like him, he isn't terrible enough for that. Throwing aside my worrys about being more democratic still violates my wish to not support either of two people with many values that totally oppose my own. It is also my opinion that there is no way for Bush to win the upcoming election. He doesn't beat John Kerry in looks (sadly the greatest determining factor for Americans) and he has taken too much scalding from the press, Mike Moore, and other countries. My third party vote won't matter much. Plus, holy shit that's a huge wall. I hadn't seen a picture of it before now.

Crystal Space (open-source 3d engine) has a demo of a real-time cloth simulator in the download I took. It seemed to work pretty well to me - and could be applied to hair. Forgot all about it until you mentioned that underwater stuff. It works with higher-poly meshes I think, no strands, fins or splines, just a solid mesh that would bend at the edges of the faces. So, the technology is there, even for real gravity. It may still have problems with collision detecting though, which would explain why it isn't widely seen. It couldn't be used for fur except with fins, probably just useful for cloth and hair.
-
Ah, I've seen that done too but I was under the impression that it would be more computationally expensive than splines. Guess I learn something new every day.. .. but wouldn't it be cheaper to use translucency and some scattered faces sticking out from the mesh with hair on them? Maybe the bones add up or something? That's how I did the ends of the hair on my last model, I could see it working if you did it all over the body to simulate fur.

They both hold many of the same views; views that I wholeheartedly disagree with. Of course they don't agree with everything - particularly economics - but I don't like either of them, for many reasons. I've thought about it plenty, and I know who I'm voting for. It isn't either of them. Perhaps you should be harder pressed not to be an idiot by simply voting for a lesser evil? :rolf

I'm under the impression that this is not actually done with polygons, but with defined 3d lines that have a 2d texture that changes shading a bit with the angle.. so it renders faster. I know this is how some hair plugin in 3DSMax works, anyway, and it renders way faster. That would explain why this is now possible while it is still difficult to model characters with no visible (intentional) straight lines or corners. The deformation is only in a simple line and the surface is a very small and simple texture so it works well in realtime.

I've made the decision to throw away my vote on a third party candidate this time around. I can't bring myself to agree with either of them - they barely have differing views really. They come from the same background, were in the same secret societies. I don't trust either.

You've never heard of chipped X-boxes with Linux installs, using XB-Connect on their PC's instead of paying for X-box Live? You can get a big hard drive and save any game you want on it. People will do all of that, rent games for $3, put them on the HD, and never pay another dime for it. On the PC it works the same as any other console emulator, someone hacks the XB and gets the core program and then any X-box game can be played through the PC. It's been done with every console I can think of. The only one that I know of that is fairly safe from it is the Gamecube, because of the trouble and costs they went through to prevent it. Sometimes I wonder if it really did make a boost in their profit, by avoiding all of the piracy "losses" from people who may have never purchased the games even if they couldn't get them for free. Then again, I may be wrong, because the n64 and previous cartrige games are available by peer-to-peer networks.

I can't help it, I just think it's too funny to keep to myself. If anyone wonders why AGS members think she's crazy, well, consider this:

Indeed. I missed that one.

Did he cover "Okie from Muskogee?" I google his name, and that's the only connection I can find between him and my post. Merle Haggard wrote the song (it's really sarcastic but not many people realized that at the time).
-
No, being a texan would be considerably worse. Just trust me on this one. If you've ever heard that song "Okie from Muskogee," Muskogee, Oklahoma is nothing like that at all, for one, my hair is long and shaggy.

Your Deepest, Darkest Fantasies about... an Apple Mac

Which is why I have a PC that is optimized for high performance in other ways. -
The judge thing is really big here right now (I live in Oklahoma and work in county government). Funny stuff. Don't know if it's true or not because it's not close enough for me to know people with direct contacts to him.

Your Deepest, Darkest Fantasies about... an Apple Mac
shbazjinkens replied to Salka's topic in Idle Banter
They don't get viruses as much as PC's, to my knowledge. The other reason they are faster (besides the dual CPUs) is because they process information more efficiently than a PC does, so the speed/performance ratio is more weighted toward performance in an Apple. -
Called the water company? .. or do you get your water from a well?

Your Deepest, Darkest Fantasies about... an Apple Mac

Here is Apple's take on the issues: http://www.apple.com/myths/ Here is a chart showing how much faster Apples are than PC's because of their dual processor architecture: http://www.apple.com/powermac/ They're actually better, and not just a little better, but much better. For games, for graphics, for everything. I don't have one though, because PC's are cheaper and I'm familiar with them. Few games are developed for them but if they were and the Apple was loaded with the proper graphics card they should do very well. Independant 3d projects are likely to start popping up as multi-platform, functioning on Linux, Windows, and OSX. Blender games will because Blender is multi-platform, and other engines like Crystal space either work on Linux and OSX or are going in that direction. The myth page speaks about a PC emulator, but I'm not sure how well that would function or how much it would slow things down. -
Ever since Metal Gear solid came out I think by large the AI programming has improved vastly from what it was previously though. How old is this game?

I thought it was 3d because it really looked cell shaded.. all of the shadows are perfect and the smoothing of the shadows is even. That's why I said it was very good artistry. I only glanced at it really though, because when you look closely you can see that the edges are not as defined as a render would be. Plus, I see a lot of 3d art. Those could be done in 3d pretty quickly, and coming from a game company, it seemed plausible.

Could and Should a Video Game Be Piece of Art?
shbazjinkens replied to vimes's topic in Video Gaming
For some, it's already art. Art has become so arbitrary though that it varies much from person to person whether anything is considered art. Some discount items for anything from lack of originality to lack of effort, or obscenity. I think it's art just because it takes creativity to do it. Zelda is art to me.. but I'm saying this from the perspective of someone who looks to such things for motivation. Perhaps you mean the whole package though, with the story being a part of the art? -
Whoa. That's a lot of anger. Didn't you get enough of your jollies making the little girl in your avatar frown? I thought the comics linked in the first post were cell shaded, but upon closer inspection it's just very good artistry because you can see the smudge strokes, unless there was post processing to cell shaded renders.

Come on, in the rare case that I might be right about something, do you really need to tell me to (as you people say it) "feck off?"

Do you really need a complete engine to begin designing gameplay?
shbazjinkens replied to vimes's topic in Video Gaming
No not really.. I still agree with your original statement. How would pre-made engines like Torque work if you couldn't create the engine first? People who use those don't create the engine, but the engine is pre-existing to the game. You can also design entire games on paper and have them turn out great, because of how well-planned they can be. If you have problems after that then it's not a fault in the game, but in your ability to know what is and isn't possible or perhaps just how to approach a certain problem. Tons of people do this, it isn't some ill-planned idea. The engine and the game are developed side-by-side because they have programmers and they have artists, and not a full crew of multi-talented people. Both groups are always going to be working if they want to get paid.
