I've heard rumors that there's going to be some sort of press event in May, where all new games will be announced. It will not be called E3, though.

In the spirit of idle thumbs news of Video Games being blamed: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6376421.stm The other media are blamed, too! Yay!

Game Developers Choice Awards to be hosted by Tim Schafer?
netmonkey replied to Marek's topic in Video Gaming
My Adventure Game Studio buddy, Dave Gilbert, got nominated for best new studio. It's pretty exciting stuff. If you haven't checked out his games, you can get the demos and buy them from his site, Wadjet Eye Games. I will be attending the ceremony and GDC. Hopefully if any of you Thumbers are around, we can hang out and stuff. -
Sorry, I'm spamming the forums again: There's this new serious game called Peacemaker that was started at my school a few years ago and now those guys have their own company and have just released the commercial version. It's gotten a lot of press over the past couple of years, and recently Ernest Adams did a review of it on Gamasutra: http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20070131/adams_01.shtml Maybe some of you guys are interested in trying it. Maybe some of you are not.. I think it costs like $20 if you care to try it. Maybe thumbs could review it if the want. I'm just posting b/c I support the work those guys are doing. You can more get info and buy it from: http://www.peacemakergame.com/

Well, there's a difference between fun described as an emotional experience and fun as a challenging experience. I'm actually curious to know which one you were referring to, Rodi. Also I've noticed that the game is often compared to Balance of Power and Hidden Agenda. PS- The underdogs has cool content, but it's a total ad whore. I can't believe that there are still websites with pop-ups... and this one has the evil ones that bypass the pop-up blocker.

Activision Australia re-releases old Adventure Games!
netmonkey replied to Aussie Ben's topic in Video Gaming
Interesting. Activision used to be the original publisher for Lucasfilm Games before it became LucasArts. I wonder if there's still some kind of connection. -
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game: The True Hollywood Story

Did anyone ever see/play Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game? Here's a preview of what it's all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJVdFgwCuQc Anyway, there is this guy in the Shoryuken forums who is telling the story about the game, as he was one of the leads in the best failure of a game, ever: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=125411 It's an interesting tale to follow. -
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game: The True Hollywood Story

I was obsessed with the movie when it came out. I was 12 and I used to think it was awesome. No wonder I still love watching bad movies... I saw the game at my local arcade. I thought it was awesome, too. Didn't play the game, though... I was more obsessed with games that were in 3D since I sort of skipped the PS/N64/Saturn generation. -
Oh noes! Watch out!

Hey guys, Long time no foruming.... and now I return to spam the forums: Some of my classmates at my school (The Entertainment Technology Center) have been working for two semesters on this game called Skyrates (http://www.skyrates.net/), which is kind of like sky furry pirates or something to that extent. Anyway, they've released an open beta today and they're looking for people to try it out, and I thought the brave folks at the Idle Forums wanted to try something different. Skyrates has a lot new things that have never been done or that haven't been done as much like: - It's a web-based MMO. Everything runs on a website with Flash, no need to download. - Sporadic play. This concept where instead of constantly playing the game, you just log in to the page, queue up a bunch of actions, run, leave, and come back in a few hours when it's done. They say it's kind of like checking your e-mail. - It's not a typical MMORPG, if it's even an RPG. It starts out as a trading game; you fly to an island and buy goods, and go to another island and sell them. Later on as you progress your skill tree, you can combat planes and join factions and it gets a bit more political. So, try it out if you're interested. It takes a little bit to get it but once you do it's actually kind of fun.

Anyone playing? It's getting pretty crazy... when I started the thread it was breaking about 100 people registered, now there's 1000 people registered, just in a week or so. Usually, I see about 75 players online chatting.
-
You can always ignore the combat... because first you have to learn some maneuvers and improve your skill tree (if you click on your avatar, there should be a tab for it). Yeah, I guess the game is still a bit of a Massively Single Player Online game... they've just started on the more multiplayer components. Also I did talk to the Skyrates team and they said that indeed they are having a problem with some proxies, probably your school is not able to connect to it. They're still working on fixing those problems.
-
Oh, btw, my Skyrate name is Threepwood...I fly the Air Monkey. Also, I hope that you can stand some of the server downtime... it should be more stable next week, but for now they're fixing some crazy bugs, and every time they do that they have to restart the server. It's the first time the game is handling more than a few people so it's getting a lot more feedback.
-
The server goes down for a sec sometimes... just reload the page and it should come back online.

The Godfather Part II! Sure, the godfather is the godfather, but part II is so much more complex, IMO And Howl's Moving Castle is my current favorite movie...
-
My friend Dave Gilbert might get his game, The Shivah, published there. However, If you would like the game, you should buy it directly from him because he gets the 100% cut. It's nice that he's getting some exposure, though! Yeah, this post is sort of spammish, but it kind of relates to the topic, too!

Ooh, can someone write an article about goth and/or emo people and how they wear makeup, too? Men in makeup!
-
A question... is interactive ficition the same as a text adventure? isn't it a more modern, fancier name?
-
Ah yes, women and gaming. You know what that means... ... MORE TITS in Video Games by EA!

What do you think will happen in the middle east?
netmonkey replied to Carlius's topic in Idle Banter
I don´t think America is some kind of hero country. I don´t think that getting involved in resolving world events for a selfish personal advantage constitutes being a hero. -
I wish people had a fucking life.

Or do you actually mean that given its small size, it's not even enough for one person? OH SNAP.
