Huh! I didn't realise it was also available for the iPhone. Cool!
-
Since iOS is completely and utterly inept at finding your existing friends, I thought I'd try and get something going here. I'm: JohnnyWalker2001 Who are you?

Very interesting, thanks for sharing!

A cannibalistic grammar Nazi. The worst kind.

I'm intrigued about her reasons, and what she said that made you feel better? A fascinating situation. Alan Moore was married to one woman while they shared a girlfriend. They had kids and everything. Sadly this experimental relationship didn't work out, and the two women left him.

Absolutely. It's hard to see the French magazine as being completely innocent victims in this situation. As unreasonable as the extremists may be, you can't poke a rabid bear and then complain it mauled you. I wouldn't go into Hannibal Lecture's cell, cover myself in hot sauce, hand him a knife and say, "bon appetite!". Of course, we shouldn't have to kowtow to extremists, but the timing on this is particularly suspect.

I think it's actually because when any arguments occur, they go on and on and on, until everyone just completely burns themselves out, and we have no choice but to get along. Kind of like real life, really.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube
ThunderPeel2001 replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Banter
Spoilers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-x1YuvUQFJ0 -
They don't need a great voice director, they just need someone without a tin ear and some patience. There's plenty of wannabe voice actors who'd happily have anything on their resume.

The lightning connector stinks. Mini USB would have been better for everyone that wasn't Apple. It's just an excuse to charge exorbitant amounts of money for a cable.
-
You guys might want to upgrade to the latest version...
-
I think you throw them into water or something?

I'm not totally convinced by the reel-to-reel thing, but it adds plenty of new features. The question remains: How do you listen to Audiobooks in iOS6...

I've been using it for about a month now. There's no Street View, addresses can be inaccurate (just today it couldn't find 84 Beacon Street, Boston -- a debatably famous address!), there's no public transportation information anymore. The 3D Flyover stuff is a terrible gimmick. Looks pretty, but is very slow to load and very useless once it does. Google Maps on Android is even more impressive, with offline maps and other useful goodies. Hard to think of a single improvement, really. It just feels like they've taken things away.

Bit of a huge letdown if you ask me. The iPhone 5 essentially boils down to an extra row of icons, despite how Apple's marketing may try and sell it. iOS 6 is just a bunch of minor tweaks with some backwards steps (like Apple maps). iTunes is still the worst thing Apple produce, but that's only seeing an update in October. From what I've seen, the integration of Windows 8 devices is actually becoming really impressive now. I'm almost sad I switched to Apple based on what I've seen so far.

There's always the Dirk Gently sequel...

The character profile pics look pretty crappy compared to the originals. Also, bkrl, I hope that wasn't some hideous medical picture that you posted to get a cheap laugh. (I haven't looked -- but I don't want this forum to be a place where I have to think twice before clicking on things.)

Great read, thanks for the link! Looking forward to watching that now.

Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire
ThunderPeel2001 replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Idle Banter
Yeah, some Kickstarters aren't necessarily worth a whole thread, but still may be of interest to peeps. I'll be updating this one as I come across things that are interesting. It'd be cool if others joined in, too. -
Doh! How could I forget Ocelot! I'd love to play Metal Gear Ocelot.

FLAMING CARROT COMICS By: Bob Burden Type: Comic! About: This is a project to get the Flaming Carrot back in print. Why You Should Care: The Flaming Carrot was a surreal, funny and incredibly popular comic from the 80s and 90s. One month it even outsold Superman. A short spin-off series was made into the movie "Mystery Men" (the one with Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo). However, these comics have been out of print since the 90s. The original author has put together this Kickstarter to bring the first two volumes (totalling 350 pages) back into print in both Hardback and eBook editions. I've heard great things about this comic, but I've never had a chance to read it. This is a great opportunity to get them cheap, as well as helping support the original author. CHARLIE KAUFMAN'S ANOMALISA By: Starburns Industries Type: Movie! About: This is a 40 minute stop-motion animation from the mind of Charlie Kaufman. Why You Should Care: Because Charlie Kaufman wrote "Being John Malkovitch", "Adaptation.", and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and the aim of this project is to allow his vision to be realised without any studio interference. Also, Dan Harmon is involved, and future projects from the studio will probably involve him, Luis CK and Robert Smeigel. This could be great! Maybe someone could start a "Fresh Kickstarter Compendium Extraordinaire" thread where people can just post Kickstarters they like the look of? Filled with things like: WINGS: DIRECTOR'S CUT By: Cinemaware About: A HD reboot of the classic Amiga game. Why You Should Care: Because Wings was generally seen as Cinemaware's most successful game and it'd be really cool to have a HD version of it. Yeah, Ground Zeroes looks pretty sweet. The sweetest part is that it continues the Big Boss story, though. I'm SO glad, as Big Boss is the only interesting character in the whole MGS universe. The original Snake didn't really have a character, he was just a "cool dude". Raiden was deliberately void of personality because MGS 2 was all about how the world around influences who you are, and Raiden was the logical extreme of that. (A companion piece to MGS1, which was all about how your genes influence who you are.) But Big Boss was actually really interesting: The hero that becomes the villain. What's amazing is that you can totally see it from his point of view. After what his country did to him in MGS3, you can totally see why he'd go "rogue". Anyways, more MGS3 story is always gonna equal for me
