  1. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I bet he kicks ass at Guitar Hero.
  2. Internet Comics

I enjoyed these two of the ones I saw. Very funny! http://hipsterhitler.com/archive/02-juice/ http://hipsterhitler.com/archive/11-surgery/
  3. The Last Express

I think they would have had more frames of animation throughout the game if they could have. They clearly used it as much as possible, and in moments when it was "important" to the story (i.e. cut scenes).
  4. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Both vids are brilliant Here's the game the chap is reviewing, for those who are interested: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/495903
  5. The Last Express

Yep. A technical restriction of the times. You get used to it pretty quickly, though.
  6. Broken Sword: Director's Cut

It's not too bad, but I agree the original opening is better. It took me a while to warm to the pre-rendered animation of the new stuff, but really I just see it as being bonus for those who have played it lots before. I hope Beneath A Steel Sky Remastered (or whatever they release) maintains the high quality of the original. Edit: Looks like BASS:R and Broken Sword 2: Remastered are completely faithful to the originals... just with audio and graphical improvements. I wish they were available for the PC! Edit edit: Christ! They had a special "BAFTA event" for BASS:R here in London in September. It was £5 to get in, with a free drink. I cannot imagine many people attended... although I would have if I'd known. I can't find any write-ups of the event or photos from it. What a bizarre evening!
  7. Life

Well, I guess we're seeing some pretty big stuff going on at the moment, much bigger than the general unease that's been bubbling under (and over) for... ever? -- Not least because these are big changes being driven by the people, and not sporadic acts or violence or events orchestrated by governments. It's certainly interesting. I hope some good comes from it! So I suppose it might be seen as a little ...rude?/ignorant?... to say what you said to Kroms, who is actually in the thick of it (as it were) and obvious sees the difference in a very big way. Kingzjester, Sudan has always been considered part of the Middle East, as far as I'm aware. Tunisia falls under the Bush Administration's controversial "Greater Middle East" (which is basically all major Muslim countries), and I suppose Kroms was subconsciously including it in that way.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

Loved that film, and loved the ending. Nothing wrong with a bit of positivity. Don't forget your field manual: http://arcturus.org/field_manual.pdf (Yep, that's the REAL deal.)
  9. Life

I said the same thing in reply, Miffy. I was like, BioShock: Amazing setting, but the story wasn't great. He responded: "Are you kidding?! The story was AMAZING. The twist was unbelievable! No film has that!" I started to talk about the Usual Suspects, but then realized it wasn't in the last five years. When I started talking about the lack of dimensions for the characters in GoW, he was still unswayed. He still insisted the story was great. I said, "Well, for me, the best film of the last decade was There Will Be Blood." He quickly responded with, "Oh yeah, that was good." So he does watch movies... he just loves games.
  10. Nifty browser games (inc. Flash)

Damn enjoyable game. I just joined the Swedish Army.
  11. Life

So I was in the pub the other day, and I met a guy who said this: "There hasn't been a film in the past five years that has come close to telling as good stories as games have in the same time period." I asked which games he thought had overtaken films in terms of storytelling and he said, "Gears of War, BioShock and Red Dead Redemption". It's fascinating to me that he got so much from those games. What do you all think?
  12. The Last Express

Good stuff, thanks for that. I think I'll stick with my CD version. If you do decide to go for a walkthrough, I recommend this one over a bullet point affair. The author clearly loves the game and really juices it for all it's worth... explaining the many real historical references along the way. http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/198971-the-last-express/faqs/61183 I've personally only used it to look over the bits I've already seen, but I'm presently stuck, and so am finding myself tempted to read a bit more.
  13. The Last Express

How do the "extras" come, James?
  14. Hacking

I must be the only one who hated the Fallout 3 hacking "game". I was invariably terrible at it. What's the matter with me? I did like BioShock's one, just because it was fun to play. Of course, none of these "mini-games" are anything like real hacking, they're just that... mini-games.
  15. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    o0Bn4m6dQbI Not bad
  16. The Last Express

Hmm. You get a "Making of" with the game anyway (it's on Disc 1). There's a fantastic walkthrough on GameFAQs, too (where the person points out historical trivia and references). So the soundtrack? Hmm. Still... it's available again!
  17. The Last Express

Works fine on Vista, I'm guessing it's a well programmed game. Here's the link. Says it works on Windows 7 64bit: http://www.dotemu.com/en/download-game/608/the-last-express-collectors-edition It also says it's the "Collector's Edition" with "including many bonuses"... but they don't say what!
  18. Recently completed video games

I think it may have been A1200 only... and it probably came out years later. Not sure. Edit: Yep, here's the details (with screenshots) http://hol.abime.net/785
  19. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    That was highly entertaining.

  21. 'Time Gentlemen, Please!' from Size Five Games

I love Ben and Dan (both the characters and the people, but mainly the people. Why? Because they can obviously create awesome stuff together). If they're going to continue, then great, but my only concern is that you canned all that work for the wrong reasons, and are now giving up... But if Ben and Dan (the people) are going to continue, then I'm happy.
  22. 'Time Gentlemen, Please!' from Size Five Games

I can't stop myself posting about this: I think they really misunderstood what made Ben There, Dan That so entertaining. It wasn't that it was a satire, it was that it was a fun, funny adventure game that didn't take itself too seriously, mocking itself and the genre in equal measures. A "satire" implies an intended message; a way for a frustrated optimist to make people think about a certain point a different way. That's what satire is. It's almost a way of preaching to people. The Ben & Dan games were not that.
  23. 'Time Gentlemen, Please!' from Size Five Games

Weird. I never thought as Ben and Dan as being the "ultimate" anything, just a highly enjoyable adventure game with lots of knowing nods and winks. A series that lovingly points out the flaws of the genre, while being an entertaining example of it. If the natural progression was to try and "top" it and make the next instalment "ultimate-er", then I can see why it would be frustrating... But why would they try and do that? You don't need voice acting. (Why did they think this was a good idea?) You don't need higher resolution graphics. You don't need more shocking content... You just need more of the same, with less flaws (however you perceive them) than the previous game. Progression will take care of itself as you try to improve on what you did... not from pre-planned idea to become even more ultimate. To put it another way: The ultimate Ben and Dan game would not be in Toy Story quality 3D, with 5.1 surround sound, and cut-scenes directed by Steven Spielberg, and puzzle solutions that would make Tom Green blush. It would just be another slice of time spent with entertaining and lovable characters... And really, that's where the improvements should be. Making our relationship with the characters stronger, while telling a compelling story, with puzzles that don't grate.
  24. Machinima

You're not kidding! I made it until the first voice appeared and had to turn it off. Oh man!
  25. Inter-railing and stuff

Hey! Have you been to McDonalds in London? We have one of those here. In London. Sure, it's not an Ice Cave, but they have some really average burgers.
