  1. Books, books, books...

Chris Remo: "I don't even think Whedon is particularly popular--if he were, his shows would probably last longer--but whether he is or not, I still can't stand his dialogue". Linky. The latter statement is probably why Remo felt compelled to post. For the record: Buffy lasted seven years, and only ended because the lead actress decided not to renew her contract. Angel lasted five years and only ended because Whedon got fed up and insisted the network give him an answer immediately, instead of waiting until the last minute, like they usually did. Viewing figures were actually up on the previous season at the time. [/Whedon fanboy] It's true that even at his "most popular" his have never been world-beating in terms of popularity, but it's undeniable that he has a die-hard legion of fans. His work definitely falls into the definition of "cult": "Loved (not liked) by a (relatively) small group of people".

Yes, if you can't play single player, it's not Tobacco's fault!
  3. 'Ben There, Dan That!' from Size Five Games

Show me a 3D mockup of this wonderful artwork... and I'll buy one!
  4. Life

Fingers crossed it all ends well over there
  5. Recently completed video games

Mario 64 rocked and was unfairly maligned in the press. The real enjoyment came from collecting every star in each level... Very clever and inventive!
  6. Pub, London, this Friday.

I'm up for tonight! (Although I admit it's late notice )
  7. Internet Comics

    Brutal Legend?
  8. The Last Express

? The original doesn't use Quicktime, you must be thinking of something else. I own the original version and it works fine in Vista (and doesn't mention Quicktime anywhere). It also never installed anything but a few game files to my HD. No, nothing like that
  9. The Last Express

You can rewind time as much or as little as you like. It's actually pretty friendly, and I've not had to go back very far after it's been shown I did something wrong. That said, this wonderful walkthrough has been very useful. In terms of gameplay, yes, it's a little annoying that there are any dead ends at all, but this is the most forgiving "dead end" game that I've ever played -- and it's also been very logical so far. Unlike something like the unforgiving Conspiracy, there's only a few locations, so you haven't got to hunt around for hours wondering what you've done wrong. When you "die" it's for a very logical and obvious reason. Because of this, most of the dead ends you'll never even see. If anything I'd say this game was an experience first, and game second. It also doesn't take very long to play through. Several hours at most. It's a great experience (the historical accuracy, research, etc, is second to none) and worth playing just for that. Huh? It's not been remastered or anything, this is the original version.

Downgrading is why I haven't logged in also (in case that wasn't super clear already).
  11. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Pretty cool. Shame about the awful voice narrating over everything.
  12. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

What are we talking about here? We all want to play in the world we've spent hours creating, yes? We just can't login without downgrading the client, and none of us can be bothered to do that anymore. Nobody is say let's scrap the world, right? We just want the server to be compatible with the latest client.
  13. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

I think you can play those puzzles once you're back in his office at the end.
  14. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

Eh? I think we're all waiting to be able to log in... Is it working now? Edit: No, still can't log in.
  15. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Not comical, it's a recording of the actual King's Speech. A treat for those who enjoyed the movie... DAhFW_auT20
  16. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Then, like I said, it failed as a joke (for me).
  17. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

It seems that most of us had issues with the ending...
  18. 'Ben There, Dan That!' from Size Five Games

You should get him to write a quote!
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

Well, it's the third time I've brought it up in this thread, so I didn't want to repeat myself more than I needed to. Here's my first attempt at raising people's awareness of this great show: http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/showpost.php?p=138854&postcount=2660 Also, Netflix doesn't tell you my rating, and MY rating is worth a lot more than theirs

    EASTBOUND AND DOWN Just sayin'.
  21. The Wire

Same thing happened to me, but I didn't watch half of four, only about three episodes. No idea why, but I know what you mean about "daunting". Of course, I did finally finish it and loved it! I went back and watched the first episodes after the series finale and it's interesting because Season 1 is WAY slower than Season 5.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

Ok, so I've had more time to think about it and... what a wonderful hoax! It's so clearly a hoax (or rather, parts of it are for sure), but it's great that I mostly bought into it. Really well made and highly enjoyable movie! I hope it doesn't win "Best Documentary" at the Oscars... I'm not sure I could handle Banksy's smugness if it did.
  23. Wikipedia says they developed the Manga at the same time as the game. You didn't know who James Bond was when you played Goldeneye?! Holy crap. That's incredible. Rogue Squadron was like 1999 wasn't it? The films had been re-released at the cinema and everything. Wow. That's amazing to me. So, are you a Star Wars fan now? Do you like the prequels (seeing as you must have watched the first one around the same time you watched the others)?
