awwww, not a single 'blahblah ? more like BALAHABLA!' in this? I'm disappointed. Good luck anyway.

Here's why I'm waiting for L4D : it's one of these few FPSs that is brutal : everything seems to really hurt the characters Real asymmetric gameplay in a FPS FTW (and I think it's a first) It's a survival horror that both radiates tension AND immediate danger there is an awesome 'dying' mode you can play on the zombie team fast paced zombies and lots of them journalists seems having genuine fun playing it (and not in 'wow, it looks amazing ...' but 'holy crap, this is awesome, late me play once more') It's been in refinement mode for several months now : apparently they could have released for March but decided to aim for 'quality'. Valve is the Golden Boy of PC games right now, so hopefully this will meet the standards of Portal and TF2

The official 'Welcome N0wak to London' thread
vimes replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Idle Banter
I've looked at the cost of going to Edinburgh from Paris and it made my eyes bleed : 375 € by plane and around 250€ by train but with the dangerous train network you schmucks have, I don't know if it's worth it. -
Apparently, the only issue is that of AI for the moment : the opponent reacted far too slowly and were far too easy to disarm. The rest is top notch though.

Well, to be honest, I didn't intend to scare the bots away : it just happened that I posted this message yesterday night while I was very tired and my brain inexplicably stayed in French mode. Your French is more than decent Miffy : it's very understandable and the few mistakes here and there will make you look cute to a huge portion of the 30+ female French population. So,translation : I was thinking about asking during the registration process a nonsensical question with a nonsensical answer which would however be provided in a sticky in the idle banter subforum. I doesn't even have to make sense. Then I'm guessing only real people would be able to pick it from there.
-
Sinon, poser une question qui n'a pas de sens avec une réponse qui n'a pas de sens mais qui serait donnée dans un sticky d'un des forums, ça pourrait fonctionner, non ?

Spaff, Yufster, Nick ... none of the adults are here : see the mess of this party now ?! See how inviting a friend of a friend of a friend and getting jiggy with it* ruins it all! If they ever come back, I'm going to tell on one or two of you! *and by 'it' I mean pokemon breed swinging

Madworld is definitely too freaking violent for my fragile self so Mirror's Edge and the Disney/Pixar/Junction Point thing are what I'm looking forward to ... that and the 1:1 movement detection promised by Nintendo.

Cool info thanks! Twas nice, but one last question : is it full on non-branching dialogs like Phoenix Wright ? It's not that I don't like them, I'm just not really in the mood for lots of those currently.
-
Well 'Mysterious Cities of Gold' as well as 'Ulysse 31' were French-japanese production, so you're kinda right Nachimir. So, is this an adventure game or not ? I hated the Touch Detective game; is it difficult in the same way ?

"This planet is ours bitch! Er-- Ah, I mean Witch...Uh, Witch, obviously. 'Thought I was back in Gears of War for a sec' " If find it very weird to see once again the original Space Marines (I haven't been following DoW closely so it's all the way back to Space Hulk for me) after all their copycat came to reign the FPS, TPS and RTS (I'm thinking of Starcraft here) genres. It's a bit sad, like Elvis arriving late at an Elvis look alike convention.

Oh... so much for my 'analysis' then. Good thing though : for once, we Europeans get the better share of a Video game related deal! Hurray! About Brütal Legend, Schafer seems to have announced that nothing will be revealed at E3 because of the Vivendi/Blizzard mergee but some significant info would be released shortly afterward. Can't find the source again, though.

It's a very strange announcement - the one about FF13 I mean : both versions got the same release date so it must be something that Square Enix had planned from the beginning of production. That or Sony is paying for 360 version development time (because if it's something new, they had to push back the release date, and it being simultaneous and all, Sony paid for a delay unrelated to the PS3 version)... in any case, I'm more surprised at Sony letting this happen than by Microsoft managing to pull if off. Isn't it a huge blow on Sony's main market, Asia ? Now that Microsoft has three Square Enix exclusives, Sony doesn't really have an argument for JRPG fans about their library anymore, have they? On a side note, I wonder what kind of announcement would lead Europe to shift massively to the 360 - seeing as it is Sony's strongest market apparently.

Done! It had been a while since I played an adventure game, and this is a pretty good one : I said it before, I'll say it again : perfect introduction Awesome character design and pretty good animation Very good character chemistry from the beginning Top notch dialogs and reactions : lots of them and all very good. Original tone : You managed to strike the perfect balance between 'all public' humor and the profanity Kudos to that. Really nice music even if infrequent Some stuff I didn't liked : The background art didn't do it for me. I think I get what you tried to do but even if you had a few successful locations in the style (outside the church, the iced subway, the 'before' room of the museum), it felt lazy. I know it's not the case, but that is how it looked like to me. There's a bunch of bugs and hindrance related to the UI, the most obvious af all being that one has to use the TAKE icon to go through doors and stairs. A dozen of other issues are frequently making the game less enjoyable Too much 'use this on that' and not enough character driven puzzles (it really felt like you'd use the superheroes in the museum or the King in 'UK,US', but they were useless) or enigma puzzles like the one with the candles No real climax - the games end with two pretty dull puzzles - but maybe that might be intended I'll be making a donation during the month:tup:

Mmm, now I'm stuck with I've ran out of ideas and the forum's still dead. Anybody wants to give me a hint ? edit : never mind, I got the lift working... finally got it when the 'primitive tool' dialog was trigerred.

To me, AC never really tried to be the assassin's simulation that is Hitman and it never is close to be a Thief-like, so I think the comparison is totally unfair. But you know how sometimes people say something is good in its own right ? Well, I'd say AC is 'bad' in its own right : it doesn't fail because it mimics badly other titles, it fails because the principle of linear sub-missions within such a dynamic looking environment* feels really frustrating and dumb. I'm really surprised they haven't released downloadable content/cheap sequel to cope with this limitation. *at least superficially, because maybe there's not much going on when you look for a while

I've begun playing it and so far - I'm stuck at trying to make Dan enter the passage under the altar - I really liked what I saw, especially the amount of dedicated dialogs for the weird combinations and the in-situ beginning (if it's new, you just created an awesome way of introducing the genre to non-experts, congrats)!. From time to time though, the said dialogs are a bit too wordy and there's a number of frustrating issues with the UI but I'll detail these on your forum. All in all I'm having a very good time and I think anyone should try this.

Eyh, where's the feedback forum ? Why does stuff keep disappearing ?
vimes posted a topic in Idle Banter
I was trying to find Duncan's GotY - Bioshock article but it apparently disappeared from Idle Thumbs; so I tried to find feedback about it but I just noticed the whole damn subforum gone. What the hell, has it been the case for a while now? -
Ahh, ok. The I agree with you on this point But on the whole,Assassin's Creed felt like giving an awesome toy to an unimaginative child : watching the result was impressively unentertaining.

"the tactile sensation almost unparallelled" what do you mean ?

It'd be awesome in an engineering sense, but I doubt it. Here's why : The only game I worked on professionally was an RPG/hack'n'slash (Silverfall - Earth Awakening) whose game engine had also powered some sims-like, a few tycoon games and even a party game... that doesn't mean the sim of one was included in the other. That's the point of branching engine : what you carry on from one project to another are fundamental and gameplay neutral feature; thus mainly graphical, network and audio library improvements. In my case, the AI was never really transferred across genre : they might have used the framework from the sim (Dino Island was the name) in Silverfall, but the approaches were totally different : in Silverfall, the AI was heavily scripted and was completely reactive (no autonomous behavior) while for the tycoon, it had to act on its own. If Blizzard employs very talented engineers and has put in place an superior kind of technology and engineering knowledge management, they might be able to recycle game design features from one genre into another. But even then, I expect most lead game designers to ask for modifications of the existing ones for their pet project, which basically means re-developping most of the stuff. That's why I say I'd be very surprised to see RTS elements in a pure hack'n'slash serie like Diablo. But ... (back to line 1 of this post)
-
How could it be ? I mean one's an RPG that spawned from an RTS that integrated a good part of RPG in its last opus while the other one is an RTS aimed at competition in Korea... ok, the technology is surely the same, yet they certainly don't share the sim aspect of the engine, so I think it's far fetched to expect Diablo 3 to use RTS elements just because its engine branches from Starcraft 2's.

I love the polaroids from Mark Hamer : they feel a lot like one of my favorite book The Mysteries of Harris Burdick..too bad he stopped doing those while ago.

It's been released on Steam, there doesn't seem to be any sign of a demo coming and it's incredibly quiet on the review side... anybody played/bought it ?

If anyone is in america or happens to be allowed to download the insecticide PC demo, could he upload it somewhere or make a torrent of it ?
