What the hell is a subtweet anyway?
  2. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Been catching up to this thread and currently am 10 pages or so behind I'm not sure "top 3 all-time favourite pixies songs" is something that is possible to pick, but current faves are probably Bird Dream of the Olympos Mons, Motorway to Roswell and Havalina (but at other times I could have picked something else, like maybe Hey, Dig for Fire and Gigantic). Actually Velouria, Debaser and Tame.
  3. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

This is more of a short film than a music video, really. But you should listen to Dum Dum Girls.
  4. Life

Gaining it is easy though! I've gained almost 10 kilos since I quit smoking in the beginning of the year. Luckily I had lost about 7 the few months before that, but I still need to lose them again, like pronto.
  5. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Tycho's new album is pretty good, includes the song "L" from the Hohokum trailer. https://soundcloud.com/tycho Also I discovered Krautrock Faust – The Land Of Ukko & Rauni Siinai – Olympic Games Spotify recently became available in Estonia and I've been enjoying using it -- I didn't listen to music for a while (year or more) but now I've been listening to a lot of stuff. Someone said (on Twitter maybe) that the "Discover" feature in Spotify sucks, but they are wrong. But other things contributed to my music listening habits as well, so can't blame Spotify alone. Also, I found out that I like some other Frank Black stuff besides the pixies. Grand Duchy (his band with his wife) has some great songs: Grand Duchy – A Strange Day

I found most of the first half of The Wolf of Wall Street to be rather boring, but then it could have been because i was a bit tired and fell asleep. Watched the other half the next evening and liked it more. I started really liking it somewhere starting with the scene with the lemmons overdose.

I've always pronounced it Pee so I have no idea why you are talking about Pie.
  8. Sounds like Miasmata with proper physics-based fire propagation, unlike the bullshit fake fires in Far Cry 2. But I hope it's still kind of a spiritual sequel to Puzzle Agent.
  9. Movie/TV recommendations

I really liked this Swedish/Danish cop series The Bridge, featuring an unlikely cop duo: a young, very smart, but emotionally not very developed Swedish detective who has to follow every rule and a more experienced but a bit crooked Danish cop. The first season has them solving a series of murders starting with one body being dumped at the very border of Sweden and Denmark. One review called the plot one step from Batman-ish and I think that's a somewhat accurate. I liked it for the weird, broken characters. There is also a US version. I checked out the beginning and it seems to be pretty much exactly the same, but set in US & Mexico (weird choice if you ask me).
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

Anybody watching Helix? It seemed good for the first few episodes, and I kept watching although it was getting kind of ridiculous, like Lost, but at least it got there sooner. Episode 9 was like a 90s soap opera more than a modern TV show, just in a sci-fi setting. Episode 10 was a bit better, but I'm not sure if I'll keep watching because the only thing keeping me is to see if the next 3 episodes resolve any of the plot since I've already invested this time into it.
  11. Riddle me this...

Yes! How can I make an assumption that I'll get the original rings back?
  12. Riddle me this...

In the 60's the trains didn't have any internal lighting?
  13. Riddle me this...

He quit smoking and drinking in the hospital, but started again in the train restaurant. Then he was lcWVL4B-4pI on the way back to Germany and thought he was blind again (or the operation finally "restored his blindness"). No, I have no idea.
  14. Riddle me this...

Goddamn puzzle (edit: the first one about the bookkeeper), I laid back on the couch thinking of the answer, fell asleep for 2 hours, dreamed about more answers, but still nothing.
  15. Riddle me this...

I actually came up with woolloom before I read Rodi's, but I don't know if it's a word. [edit] isn't
  16. I didn't like the video: 1) makes joke more obvious 2) too long, esp. considering the footage was repeating - at some point I was just watching a video of TTS engine reading me text instead of reading at my own pace. 3) text didn't match that well with gameplay video I think a monotone human voice might be worth trying, but it could also be funny if you could somehow make TTS engine do funny stuff (maybe have it read slightly modified text than what is displayed e.g. play with pauses or something). Mainly I would make video reviews shorter because "a picture is worth a 1000 words" and a moving picture is even more so you need less actual words than in a text review.

So sorry to hear that Cabot will not make it.
  18. Life

I'm relatively introverted, I don't think I do postmortem's that much, but I do tend to run simulations of conversations I know I'm going to have beforehand, which can be even worse. I don't think it ever goes according to the simulation (except for trivial stuff). Lately I've successfully managed to stop myself from doing those for too long a few times. But I think it's normal to do it a bit, IMHO it's part of being considerate and not always just blurting out whatever comes to mind. But sometimes I suddenly think of something I said a couple of days back and think "OMG that was dumb, I totally should have said something different". Or śometimes I'll think of a better response immediately after a conversation is over.
  19. Indeed, that was the best first post ever!
  20. Non-video games

I can make a better game out of a similar theme*. * based on 1 minute of slightly drunk reading of the description.
  21. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

I haven't played any of the other Call of Juarez games, but saw this in the RPS advent calendar and it seemed cool. Tried the demo and was instantly sold! This is probably the best Wild West FPS since Outlaws! The humorous story is told by a bounty hunter at a saloon who supposedly met all the famous outlaws and marshals and some of the real history is hidden as "nuggets of truth" that you can discover and then read a bit about. The combat mechanics are fun and the game looks great.
  22. Next Car Game

I just made a FlatOut topic and didn't want to take it off topic so soon so here's another thread for Bugbear's next car game, which is called "Next Car Game" for now. It's "high contact" like FlatOut, and early access is available for only 25$ so I bought it. I like it so far! Of course from this it's early to tell, but it feels less arcadey than FlatOut. The driving seems more realistic, but if some reviews complained about Flatout's "spongy" steering then in this game the steering felt even more spongy to me. The damage model is... interesting. This car is still going: "A brave front wheel that could". Seems some wheels will try to stay attached no matter what. The environmental damage model seems to have expanded as well, and even some permanent barriers will take at least cosmetic damage. There's a destruction derby level that is totally nuts and the AI drivers start driving backwards when their fronts are too damaged! (is this common in destruction derby games?)
  23. Next Car Game

Yeah, I haven't checked whether they've talked about plans with damage model, but I'm hoping they'll actually dial back the hilarity somewhat, because at times it's just too ridiculous (but usually if you are actually trying to race you won't take the kind of damage that turns you into a mysteriously functional metal ball).
