Yeah, that's $1 for 10000 lines of code. I could download thousand times that for 1$ worth of internet from github.com.

Does Parks & Recreation get better after the first season? I watched through Season 1 and it's not bad, but I feel like my time would be better spent watching something else, like Archer for example. [edit]The Rotten Tomatoes rating goes way up between S1 and S2 so that's a good sign.
  4. Automation: Where did all the jobs go?!

In my mind, basic income, mincome, living wage, or whatever it's called, is not something where the government pays you ONLY IF you don't already make more. That would be really complicated and would probably need more bureaurcracy. In my idea the only way to make it work is to have them pay it to everyone. Any salary from working would be on top of that. And I guarantee you most people will still want to work, and if they don't it's still not a problem because, hey, robots are probably doing their work. What might be still complicated is when to start paying you. Some people may not take it well if they suddenly start receiving a decent sum every month when they turn 18, and without doing anything.
  5. Automation: Where did all the jobs go?!

Why would anyone want to choose to do their human interaction in the supermarket of all places? It's a much better idea to find people with common interests and interact with them. Or just go to a place where people are generally expecting to be interacted with. I don't know, bars? I usually don't do that. I don't know. Programming isn't really a creative industry, it's a thing businesses need as much as plumbing and electricity. Uh... Blocked.

Does anyone else think the new Lemon Demon album is surprisingly good? http://lemondemon.com/spiritphone/ I liked some Lemon Demon songs before (mostly in a humorous way) and the non-Lemon Demon mashup albums, but the new one to me is somehow sounding a lot better than Neil Cicierega's previous original songs.

Damn, they only ship to a limited number of countries.
  8. Automation: Where did all the jobs go?!

As a programmer I'm slightly less worried for myself, but yeah I think we need some kind of basic income for everyone.

You, the Living is an excellent comedy! I don't know how to easily view it, though. There's an Artificial Eye Blu-Ray set of the trilogy which it is part of (including Pigeon Sat ...), but reading some forum comments it appears to be a really crappy quality transfer.

I saw Wings of Desire just now and The Turin Horse earlier this week. Both are masterpieces but a bit heavy (especially The Turin Horse -- I can still feel it's weight on me), and now I have a feeling I should watch something lighter for a change. Also now having seen these and all the Tarkovsky movies I feel like my favourites in letterboxd is getting outdated, but I'm also finding it increasingly difficult to select just 4 favourites.

Yeah, he is a bit annoying at times. PS I didn't really like the first episode, mostly due to the secondary characters, who thankfully disappeared soon, and starting from the second episode it got much better.

Congrats SAM (you should name your kid MAX)! PS. Does this seem weird, who is this SpeedyDesiato, it seems like someone I vaguely remember:

Just binged through season 1 of Love. Quite liked it - occasionally reminded me of You're the Worst, in a good way.

I thought I'd give Scorcese another chance with Hugo, but that was another disappointment. Still, I did like Wolf of Wall Street somewhat, so there's still hope I'll find another Scorsese movie I like.

    Hmm... nailed it

I just randomly watched Goodfellas and felt totally bored. After this and being so disappointed in Taxi Driver, it seems Scorsese's style just doesn't work for me at all. Taxi Driver at least had some nice camera work and cinematography, but this one didn't even have that IMHO, there's only a couple of memorable shots and they are basically irrelevant to the whole.

Room (2015) is a real tearjerker. I cried almost as much as during Wolf Children.

Yeah, this seems like something I will get, but there was something weird, a news piece about that listed the lengths as shorter than the original lengths (174 min for Andrei Rublev). http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=15450 But now if I look at more updated info it seems that Andrei Rublev is actually the full 205 minutes as Tarkovsky intended, not like the 186 of the Russian Blu-Ray http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=18258 http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Andrei-Rublev-Blu-ray/147666/ [edit] Damn... the Amazon pre-order for Rublev still states 174 minutes though... the mystery deepens. I guess it'll end up being the 186 minute version after all.

Yeah, I also liked the beginning of Mirror maybe more than anything else. There's a moment where it feels like the director has control of nature itself, more strongly than in some of the other movies.I found low-quality torrents of the last ones, maybe some were on rutracker.

Quest complete: I've now watched all Tarkovsky movies It's really hard to pick a favourite among his feature films. A moment ago I thought it would be Nostalghia or Solaris, but actually maybe Andrei Rublev. They are all exceptional movies (Stalker, Solaris, Mirror, Nostalghia, Sacrifice, Andrei Rublev and Ivan's Childhood). The shorter ones are worth a watch as well.

I just watched Andrei Rublev. It's Tarkovsky's epic 3 hour movie about the life and times of the eponymous 15th century Russian icon painter and it seems to have everything in it, except I didn't notice the tricks with light that Tarkovsky plays in his later movies. Maybe they were more subtle here. I really liked it, although it was a bit tiring to watch, even if I split my watch into two chunks. Also I feel like it somehow gave me a better understanding of Orson Welles' Chimes at Midnight, even if I don't fully understand why. Right after watching I went to Wikipedia and realized I saw the short 186 minute version instead of the full 205 minute original version. Bummer

Also I saw Solaris, Stalker and Nostalghia just days after seeing Revenant (and Ivan's Childhood last year) and I did not notice any of the very obvious references in Revenant so I must be pretty bad at making these kind of connections:

I just watched Ryan Gosling's director debut Lost River and it wasn't bad. It's like a combination of some good films I've liked, but it didn't feel like the vision behind it was very strong. Still, I think it's impressive for first film. Also yesterday I saw Tarkovsky's Sacrifice and both of these films feature burning houses, so that made me wonder whether it's a reference. Although of course a house burning may not be THAT uncommon, but probably there are several references in here to other films that I'm not seeing because I am very bad at remembering specifics in any media I consume and also I've not yet seen as many important films as I'd like to have.

Sorry to hear that pabosher. Crying will help.
