Idle Thumbs 34: The First Age of Extreme
toblix replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
It's totally awesome how you have to consider elevation, and when you build the road, it's just marked with flags, and as the guys use it a path is formed, and as it it's formed the speed with which the dudes traverse it increases. -
Idle Thumbs 34: The First Age of Extreme

I'm disappointed to hear that Anno 1404 doesn't have the same level of detail as the Settlers games. I really enjoyed Settlers for being a relaxing, highly detailed resource management game. I liked how every profession had their own routines and animations, and following the various processes was awesome, like the farmer sowing grains, watching them grow, him harvesting it, it being transported to the mill, the miller milling it or whatever, the flour being taken to the bakery and so on. Also, I could do this and not worry about being raped by the enemy. I was hoping that Anno 1404 would do the same, only with an infinitely higher level of fidelity. ALAS! -
I've played MI:SE some more, and the new graphics, which I liked at first (as I mentioned, the pirate close-ups were pretty good) are really starting to disappoint. As I followed the shopkeeper through the woods to find the sword master, I noticed that they've just upscaled the original art and drawn over it, not even bothering to cover everything, so there's huge chunks of pixels peeking out everywhere. I was really aiming to play through this with the new graphics, but I'm not so sure anymore. Also, if this is a success, I hope they'll start a new project and not just do the same shit with MI2 (which is what they will do)

If you have UAC enabled and try to write inside the Program Files, Windows treats your application like a retard, faking a magical dream world for it to play in without hurting itself or others. Wouldn't the right place be the one given by Windows when asking it where that place is?
-
Yes, the My Documents thing is pretty weird. I guess it's because you "can't" really write to the Program Files directory, and if they saved the game in the place Windows wants you to, people wouldn't be able to find their save game files so easily.

Also, besides the hair thing, I think a lot of the new graphics are pretty good. The close-ups in the bar, for example, are nice. Of course, that's just my opinion, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT.

The Idle Thumbs Downloadable Content Thread
toblix replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
But why? Why are these things separated from the main episode thread? They're directly related to each episode. It's like having all the illustrations in a book at the end, and then just referencing them in the text. -

Great podcast. You know, for the first time today it really struck me how pleasant Jake's voice is. He has this soothing tone and timbre, I can't believe I didn't notice before! -
Have you asked them about it? Twitter, I mean.

Finished LOOM, pretty good. I guess I'm not devastated that I didn't play it before now. So I've just started MI:SE, and holy fucking shit. The classic/new mode hotswap function is the coolest shit. I just keep hitting F10 all the time to see how everything matches up while still being totally different.

Good game, Wrestle, James, Nevsky, uh, something666 and Whrthgy! Also, bonus kudos to Ben200 for being a passable driver. I'd list some awesome shit that happened, but I'm too tired. -
The Idle Thumbs Downloadable Content Thread

Wouldn't it make more sense to have each episode's DLC in the episode's thread, rather than in this? -
Well, I'm playing the VGA version, and although I don't feel completely old-school, it is very fun, looks nice and I'm really impressed with the voice work. I guess they just recorded all sequences in one go, rather than line by line or something, because everything flows really well. Maybe the best dialogue flow I've heard in a game.

Grand Thumb Auto XXXIV: Wrestle & James - Justice on Wheels

Well, I thought It'd look cool if I landed on the tower in the middle, and then jumped out from the cockpit sniping everyone in slow motion. -
Also, you should do one with hilarious commentary track, as seen on my LBP level. Or heard, rather.

Right, there it is. The sad thing is that donations do not increment the TGP sales counter.

The aspect that really appealed to me when playing the BF games was that I could have my own single player (or co-op with a small group) game inside this larger conflict. There would be all sorts of awesome shit going on, and we could do our own thing, grabbing a car and going off on some mission. It probably isn't the best way to win the game, but it really brought out the same stuff that appealed to me when playing the first 20-30 levels in WoW. Fun single player gameplay in a larger world that didn't seem focused around me.

Yes, the first minutes were pretty interesting. For a moment I was about to cut my wrists with one of my outdated business cards to make the sound inside my head stop. Then I realised it was coming from my headphones.
-
I'm always up for co-op. Well, not always, but at select times.
-
It was pretty hilarious. I had one whole HP left at that point. One HP, and a whole lot of love for you.

Excellent. Now I can sleep without resorting to drugs.

Great game, James, Wrestle and n0wak. Hope you had fun fighting the last tank while I held his rock. Hope I didn't ruin the other game or something by quitting. There was some confusion and James burned himself on the cross for me, and I didn't want to be they guy who just forced someone else out, etc.
