The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Kolzig replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
RIP Sega. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-01-30-sega-to-offer-300-voluntary-retirement-as-part-of-focus-on-smartphone-and-pc-online-gaming Oh how the mighty have fallen, house of Sonic is in a really deeply troubled state... It all went down the drain even before Sammy came in. I still wonder how did Sega actually manage to takeover Atlus if Sega itself is in this financial state? f someone buys off Sega now, some really incredible IPs change owner in such a deal. As a really old times Sega fan, this really just makes me sad and pisses me off that they wasted the fortunes on Mega CD/32X adventures etc. Should've just gone from Mega Drive straight to Saturn and from there to the glorious Dreamcast. -
Nintendo put out a pleasant surprise yesterday when they released Codename S.T.E.A.M. demo to the eShop. Has anyone had time to play it yet? I downloaded it yesterday and tested menus and watched the trailer video that came in the demo. Actual gameplay testing will have to wait now until weekend.

I couldn't resist and bought the Vita version as well. Noticed immediately one big bug. When pressing examine button, the game hangs up for 1-2 seconds every time. It's a bit annoying. I haven't encountered anything like that with the PC version.

Actually, the normal Amiibos cost currently in Japan around 1200 JPY. So that's about 8,50€ / £7 / 11$

Bought Marth like a month ago, dunno why really. That character has no special memories to me. I have been thinking about buying Link for Hyrule Warriors/MK8 (I don't have Smash yet, except for 3DS) Also Captain Falcon and Fox McCloud just looks so damn cool that should get those also. But I don't want to have too many plastic figures around the apartment. Maybe I'll just wait for the next Japan trip since there these cost 8€ per character when in Finland these costs 16-17€.

Still haven't bought the double package, I was meaning to buy it already last year, but now I'm really close to getting it. Most likely during February. Loved the demo of B2 and loved the first game on Xbox. Going to play for sure the first one again and only after that go for the second game. I've always felt that the funniest bit about Bayonetta is that many people think Kamiya designed her when in fact the whole design was done by Platinum's Bayonetta lead character designer Mari Shimazaki. Even Kamiya was surprised with what she came up with.

Yes I got Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training as well during last summer(?) and I also live in Europe. I think it was some sort of test release, it does work really well on the gamepad tablet's screen. I really do hope that they would manage to release GBA and DS games on 3DS and continue to release more games on Wii U for DS. Just got during last weekend Batman Arkham Origins and The Wonderful 101 on discount from a local market. Price was nice, but I was ready to buy The Wonderful 101 with a much higher price. Kamiya-san really overdid himself with this game, it's just so damn awesome. I hope Platinum makes also other projects for Nintendo in the future, the quality of TW101 and Bayonetta is so high that these guys really know what they are doing. Arkham Origins is a really weak port, they didn't even make use of the gamepad tablet much at all, just the tv off play is there. For example Batman Arkham City's port is so much better done. It's actually the most superior version of that game.

I wonder how long it will take for Amazon.fr to ship something to Finland? I am already waiting way too much for the N3DS XL to arrive.

Bought it immediately through GOG.com yesterday, couldn't resist the DRM free heaven and also the best price. It was like 11€ in GOG, while Steam had it for 15€. Also get a wallpaper as a bonus and the three development videos that can also be found from Youtube.I don't really care at all about the added achievements in Steam. Tested it a bit from the beginning and while the new lighting system is a bit gimmicky, it's still very nicely done. Mostly I am loving the remastered musics and the director's commentary bits. The musics were awesome already in the original version of course. Played that with ResidualVM just last week. The added optional 16:9 stretchy mode looks just unbelievably horrible as it sounds on paper, can't decide whether I want to play with the native black borders or with the side decals. The point'n click interface is really well done, it just works. I will have to test though which of the three control options does feel the best. Though I noticed in the original version the camera relative option was there already with the tank controls option. Originally I did not like the direct controls in 1998, but the clutter free UI does feel nice when now thinking about it. I never had any problems with the inventory UI either back in the 90's. I have been toying now with the idea to buy it also for PS Vita for sofa and on the go gaming, but seems it costs 15€ also in Sony's platform, it's open for purchase now also in Sony's Europe shop as a crossbuy for PS4 and Vita.

So, no discussion here yet about Nintendo globally closing Club Nintendo later this year? I think it's a great move. Club Nintendo was total bullshit especially in Europe through it's whole existence. Only a few countries had it instead of all European gamers, whole North Europe was almost completely shafted. The only fruits we got out of it came last year with the Mario Kart 8 bonus game promotion and Hyrule Warriors preorder DLC. I for one am hoping that some great things come out in September when they unveil the new system/program. I am hoping for a one unified Nintendo Premium service for all regions. Or at least one unified one for the whole Europe. Could be that they are building something like PS+, but with a Nintendo twist.

GOG added six new LucasArts games today (20 JAN)
Kolzig replied to chickenmonger's topic in Video Gaming
So damn happy to see X-Wing Alliance and Dark Forces there. Both are absolutely superb games. -
You know, I was thinking that it is enough if I own the original on PC and just play it through ResidualVM, but Tim is forcing my hand. I really want to try out the new control options and hear the director's commentary bits. Also I am almost caving in on buying this ALSO for Vita for on the go gaming.

Call me weak, but I went and pre-ordered yesterday from Amazon France the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Special Edition N3DS XL. I saw one friend of my wife owning that in Japan last autumn and damn it looks so sweet that I just couldn't resist. Also the Amazon price was like 40 euros cheaper than the Finnish and UK prices so it was a done deal immediately. Have to get rid of my red 3DS XL after the new one arrives. But I do have to say that the European prices for N3DS and N3DS XL are just insane. I could've gotten it from Japan during the autumn for half the price new, if there was no damn region lock. This thread has now 99 pages!?! Damn I really have some reading to due to my few years of absence from the forums.

I bought a 3DS over a year ago in October. Anyone up for some Thumbs battles in any games like Mario Kart 7 and what else is there even? My 3DS friend code is 3926-5526-2755 Man I really hope they do some huge update still to 3DS system, the whole system needs to be more connected to Wii U and NNID. Get rid of the system based friend codes and just give us access to the damn private messages functions in Miiverse etc.
-
I purchased a Wii U and a 3DS over a year ago, so if anyone's interested in listing me up and getting some MK8 multiplayer etc going with fellow Thumbs, then my NNID is: Kolzig You may also harass me in Miiverse, which is a funny place actually.

So yeah, I got a PS3 like a year ago and Vita last autumn. Don't have many friends there and was supposed to come back to Thumbs forums back then already. My PSN ID is Kolzig73

Thimbleweed Park: A new adventure game from Ron Gilbert & Garry Winnick!
Kolzig replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
So happy that this one made it clearly through it's initial Kickstart run. Now just to wait for the final product. The development blog has been up for a few weeks now. blog.thimbleweedpark.com -
Thimbleweed Park: A new adventure game from Ron Gilbert & Garry Winnick!
Kolzig replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I have been lost in the wonders of life for two years, but I mark my return to Thumbs forums just for this game. I AM EXCITED, CAN YOU SEE THAT I AM EXCITED! Ron Gilbert back to making adventure games with Gary Winnick! YES YES YES!!! -
How can it be that the game is finally launching after ages of waiting on Friday in Europe and Sunday in USA and nobody has created yet a thread about this? I'm absolutely excited about Skyward Sword, actually much more than about Skyrim. I have almost no interest in Elder Scrolls series. I tried Oblivion for a while, but it just didn't seem interesting at all. From Bethesda's works I liked Fallout 3 a lot more. I do admire the apparently amazing huge world of Skyrim, but that's about it. So yes, the reviews have been raving about the game all over, maybe even a little bit suspiciously a lot, but from what I've seen I think all the positive writings are worth it. Me myself am a kind of Zelda failure. I've tried several times ages ago to play Link to the Past, Oracle of Ages, Minish Cap and Phantom Hourglass and I've got stuck in each one at some dungeon. What I get more out of this game, is when I get to watch one of my crazy friends play the game through with such a crazy passion. Just like he has done with every Zelda game made so far, except for the CD-I horrors. So here's some funny trailers I happened to notice today. 4TMo4VLVW24 Zelda Williams tries to take role, but Robin has too much XP and levels. w_g4PAFCSpI This one is like telling the life story of my crazy friend, with the exception of the next generation which does not exist in real life. wsCusUGsBLY So yeah, I'll make a promise. I will try my best to make this the first Zelda game I shall complete. But one thing is for sure, again there are way too many good games coming out during the last three months of the year. This is not good for the games market performance, Nintendo especially is at fault when they are pushing everything out during Oct-Dec and almost nothing during the rest of the year.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/14/surprise-prey-2-confirmed/ Human Head Studios is again the main developer and Nick's Bethesda/Zenimax is the producer and publisher. Engine is rumoured to be very likely id tech 5 and when it's done date is said to be sometime in 2012. From the looks of the Game Reactor cover image, they changed the main character into an angry looking Sam Fisher space marine! Well, the original character had clichéd name (Domasi Tawodi aka Tommy Hawk), but at least he was slightly different from all the space marines and also the game had a lot different feel with the native American setting and the spirits to guide the main protagonist. I liked the first game, the opening sequence was one of the best so far in fps games. I'm not disappointed that Prey gets a sequel, but I am disappointed that Human Head seems to be going the way of every fps out there when I look at that cover image. No originality in sight or anything that would make me interested in the game. This reminds me that I'm sad because I wasn't fast enough to get the five euro sales of Prey in Steam some years ago and it's no longer available anywhere as far as I know as there was a limited number of "cd keys" or something like that. EDIT: Ok so it doesn't have id tech 5 apparently. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/15/prey-2-id-tech-5/ Wow, someone wrote this in RPS comments: Where can this be still bought? Holy crap, I think saw a disc based version at a local supermarket for pennies. Woot!

DjNDB at the Telltale forums is awesome. With his/her help I got the game finally working today. It was some really really strange Vista compatibility with Steam that was on even though it was not supposed to be on as I've never needed compatibility mode with any game. Also it was grayed out so I had to go deeper to change the setting.
-
I would love the game most likely, if it would actually work. It's so interesting that Poker Night 2 is the only game of hundreds of games installed on my computer in the past few years that crashes at the loading screen. Tried to fix it with the help of Telltale's support on the official forums, but seems nothing helps. I have tried re-installing it on Steam, clean boot, installing it on a different hard drive location, checked that all drivers are updated etc. Must be some bug in the coding then which is a shame... I wonder why Bruce Campbell isn't in the game and instead we have some voice actor in his place?

I noticed last month that this game sneaked it's way to Steam. I didn't find a thread for this one yet here. I have heard nothing about it, but I laughed when I noticed that the main character's name is Dan Marshall. Do we get a Ben Ward also in the game? The company behind it made the PC port version of Sonic Generations, so it should be a solid game as I've heard Generations was great on PC. The game does look like a generic marine shooter, but it's based on Tokyo of the future so it does try to pull some right strings at least for me. Here's something of the story and the game: [media=]
