The episode tries to talk about the game by filling in the negative space around what the game is, and ends up kind of falling into a hole of madness as a result, which seemed appropriate in the end.
-
We don't talk about any specific content of The Stanley Parable, though we do describe the content of the demo as an attempt to give an example of the game.

If you switch to O2 view you can see that sometimes it takes a while to propagate. Full base history is on the to-be-added list.

Idle Thumbs 128: Dear Mom As the saying goes, "When life gives you an insane shipping schedule, sleeplessness, and you think you may be getting a little bit sick, make an episode of Idle Thumbs where you dig through the mailbag and answer a bunch of quality questions readers have sent in." We'll be back next week with a full episode! Things Discussed: You Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed

Anything "at least would've been doable." Any idea you have, you can conceivably put in a game. There is no limit in the coming-up-with-ideas part. What you choose to do with the limits imposed by the "in real life we only have this many people and they can only work thhis many hours" part is a lot of what being a lead on a game is about. Things actually take a lot of time to do and with only so many people you have to pick what gets done first, what gets done later, and what never goes in the gamd. As far as this specific example, the team Dev plans page discusses multi level as a thing they want to pursue. I think everyone agrees that being able to stack layers on your base like the Enterprise, Galactica, or the Death Star would be amazing.[i hope this didn't come across as accusatory or angry. I think the holes present in alpha funded games, and different peoples interpretations over how/when/if they get filled, are the things that most aggressively tear the roof off of the development process. It's what creates a conversation about how games are made, not just a conversation about what should be included in one of them.]

An ESCII double fine logo is in the trailer for like 5 frames! So theres that...
-
I think the framerate of the trailer video capture was just garbage. The game itself runs shockingly smoothly. There are a number of people elsewhere who aren't into the look of the game, so it's not just you. There are also a lot of people do just genuinely like it without ulterior motives or insider elements clouding their thoughts. After the amnesia fortnight prototype, the look they chose for the final game is not what I was expecting at all, but it's grown on me since pretty heavily.

I don't think Steve controls the pan. I think it's just how it comes in iff the handheld mic.

iOS game pad support could be the beginning of whatever AppleTV becomes, if anything. That would be a place where you could see someone buying/making a controller. (Even if it's just laying groundwork - encouraging iOS devs to consider controller support now, so there is a foundation of controller-ready games as year from now.) -
My narrowing it down to the definition of "playing a game" you had as a kid was not intended as a pejorative.

Yes Yoichi Kotabe! His 2D illustration work (which I remember mostly from the marketing and manual surrounding Mario 3) seems to have slowly been forgotten over the years (as evidenced by the really gross character designs in New Super Mario Brothers) but it's clear that Mario 3D Land and World both studied his proportions and compositions really closely. Oh shit, according to the Mario Wiki it turns out that he actually drew all of Princess Peach's postcards which pop up in 3D Land. Wow! That's why they look exactly like they fell out of a Mario 3 player's guide. Holy fuck. -

Whoa interesting! Pressure-based ones always SEEM way laggier to me but it's probably because, Nintendo-hardware aside, they're used in situations where they're being driven by abysmal CPUs (like credit card signature terminals).
