Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer
Jake replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
People used to be so vocal at me for not seeing The Godfather series. It really blew their minds for some reason. I think the people basically yelling at me incredulously for years made it really fucking hard to care about that movie. When I finally saw it I thought it was good but it didn't strike me as amazing. It actually took a couple years of having seen it and letting it stew, separate from the "WHATTTT???"s, before I could go watch it again with something closer to fresh eyes, and really get into it and see why it is regarded the way it is. I still think Spinal Tap is not a funny movie because people got SO UPSET over my not seeing it (while also quoting all the good lines at me) for a decade+ that when I actually saw it, every moment was met by me with either resentment or just being unimpressed. So it goes. That movie's fine. -

Idle Thumbs 159: Wilson's Ghoulish Countenance
Jake posted a topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Idle Thumbs 159: Wilson's Ghoulish Countenance Enemies close in, your health almost gone. Time slows, then stops. With the world waiting around you, your choices are endless. You browse your options: A direct attack has its merits, but maybe a dash strike followed by a devastating chain of backstabs would be more effective, or maybe the whole encounter is irrelevant with the deployment of a cloaking field. Your decision reached, you unfreeze time and realize you have somehow instead bought four MannCo crate keys. Despite what you've heard, this is not episode 160, but it does feature special guest Danielle Riendeau of Polygon. Things Discussed: Transistor, Super Time Force, Dota 2: The International, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Team Fortress 2, Full Bore, Super Noah's Ark Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed -
Yes this. We definitely have space for Danielle's face around here.

(We honestly don't have space for another huge print, he said jealously, but still truthfully.)

Is anyone watching Halt and Catch Fire?
-
I heard it was basically done other than an extensive port to PS4, but I can't even remember where or in what context I heard that.

8 doesn't ship with a wheel, at least not the most common version of the game. It's just a disc in a box.
-
I don't have a wheel controller, just a regular Wii remote which I had to hold NES Style and then try to turn with. I bet the wheel itself would be fun if the game was tuned to it.

It was always there but we were blind to it.

This thread has all the worst things in it. It is an amazing collection.

I wonder if there were dice on the mirror or what the license plate said............

Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze

Whenever we do 5+ it's a madhouse. That's welcome for GDC episodes and stuff but not for a regular week. -

We really are amazing failures for not wasting Kickstarter money on that and hanging it in our office. -
I probably foolishly didn't request a wiiu code when I backed the Kickstarter. This sounds good.

Idle Thumbs 164: The Seed of a Sneeze

I wish the Besties would just be a general gaming podcast. Or, that they would do a separate case from the Besties that was that. I just want to hear Justin talk about things going on in the industry and what he's been playing, without having to try and fit in into a high concept template. -

It's terrifying to listen to old Idle Thumbs. We used to recommend starting at the start, and I would never ever recommend that now. -
I think its got a good decade on you. I first heard it in terms of Harry Potter fandoms.
-
I installed it to my Mac's hard drive!

Man I forgot that in 2005 publishers were still insisting PC games ship with their data spanned across multiple CD ROMS, while consoles had aleady been a couple years with DVD players. It's no fucking wonder Steam took off. Psychonauts on FIVE CD ROMS! That was also probably nothing compared to some games of the time.

I think the term "fan service" started off being explicitly about sexual/erotic content thrown in to appease salivating fans, and has since broadened out to mean "content that's in your work just to please existing hardcore fans." Like, putting in a moment where two otherwise unrelated characters have a chance encounter and lock eyes for half a second just to get people who ship that unlikely pairing excited, done knowing that that audience subset exists. At this point that's fan service, despite not being something explicit like having a character walk out in a bathing suit and bend down or something gross. Or I'm totally wrong.

Oh man a BudCat creation.

PC was only announced as part of the Majesco deal but yes I forgot that that happens right at launch and wasn't delayed.

I think the comparison is fair, as no Yoshi's game other than Yoshi's Island has had that difficulty curve. They all seem aimed younger/simpler.
