  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah, I only just became aware of them recently but I mostly read their long features and their news when it's about weird stuff.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Ah I gotcha. Kill Screen is not that, it's more... in-depth and arty I guess? Polygon fits what you're looking for a little bit better I think, if you don't already Polygon.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Complement how? I'm pretty in love with Kill Screen.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I just don't see any value in declaring something not a game, and this conversation baffles me. Well, it doesn't baffle me. The motive of most not-a-game-sayers seems to be to exclude titles like Gone Home from imaginary game awards that have literally no bearing on their lives. As far as I'm concerned, if it's a game to anyone, it's a game.
  5. Naut! Grand Theft Auto: Ghosts of Mars
  6. True. After a wiki glance at Oil! it seems like PTA used a couple of characters, sort of, maybe, and riffed on a couple of the book's millions of storylines. That's pretty great. Did someone... describe it to him or something?
  7. Just a probably annoying and nitpicky note on the PT Anderson conversation: Apart from Inherent Vice, There Will Be Blood was also based on a book, albeit loosely. Haven't read Oil!, so not sure how much so. But yeah neither holds a candle to his originals. Punch Drunk Love especially, for me. edit: wait, I haven't seen Inherent Vice. Still.

hard to believe more departments don't have an advisor/more training for things like this in 2015
  9. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've been listening to a whole lot of Laurie Spiegel
  10. This is another great primer that touches on a lot of what's being discussed here, complete with illustrations and input from comic artists: http://www.buzzfeed.com/marinaomi/an-illustrated-guide-to-writing-people-of-color#.ngww7XaE3 buzzfeed is tearing it up in this thread
  11. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

So I deleted Candy Crush Soda Saga from my phone a couple weeks ago. I actually think it's a really fun subway ride game. I also find the "You failed too much so you can't play anymore for however many minutes" timer limit thing interesting, if not for the fucking weasely payment nature of it. I'd love to see it implemented in a mobile roguelike or something, without the option to buy it away, to make game death even more meaningful. But yeah, done with Candy Crush. If any mobile game is going to throw in app purchase ads in my face every 30 seconds it's going to be Crossy Road.
  12. I couldn't stop lolling irl in the pasta aisle at the grocery store.
  13. Idle Santa 2014

Tegan sent me some books! She's a mind-reader, I've been wanting some comics and she didn't even have a list from me or anything. Thanks so much!
  14. Dreams!

My cat Panda had a balding stripe down her back, with little red bumps. I took her to the vet, and in the vet's waiting room there was a man telling me about how this vet is where they took Michael Jackson before he 'went into hiding.' My dream logic self argued that this couldn't possibly be true as Michael Jackson would never skip all those sick pets waiting in line.
  15. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

Desert Golfing is the answer and the truth.
  16. I used to play a lot of NBA 2k with a buddy, and pretty much the main appeal was the multitude of glitches. I also think all the Assassin's Creed Unity stuff is golden.
  17. Screenshots. Shots of your screen.

do you guys think I'm pretty??

  20. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

it's neat that there are cool things in the trailer but storywise there is literally nothing to go on, so I'll reserve extreme excitement.
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Speaking of which, these people really need some post-structuralism in their lives.
  22. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Never mind that doing Narrative Design on an award winning and rad-looking ios Game is damned impressive.

  25. Game Dev Talks/Lectures

I enjoyed this talk by Rami Ismail: and this isn't Game Dev but it's Game Journalism and it's good ( Though the slides are one behind >.< ):
