Important If True 7: Human Behavior
Paul Smith replied to Jake's topic in Important If True Episodes
New theory: Jake has told the gross story many times, in private and on podcasts. Chris and Nick are aware but indulge him every time because they are nice and because he tells it so well. -
Important If True 7: Human Behavior

Found it! Idle Thumbs 187: Half a Brain Edit: a minute into that segment, Jake says "I thought I'd talked about this on Idle Thumbs once." It's possible this story has been told three times, with Nick and Chris reacting to it fresh each time. -

I like the "shoutouts" and they should stay in the ad-free show, hopefully they are usually fun like this one was and not just "Hi to X from X". You should change the name to something less boring. My idea: [in Chris Remo voice] "Now it's time for IMPORTANT to YOU. What do you want us to say that's important enough to spend $XX bucks on?" -

IdleMC Epoch 7.5 Final Prologue GOTY Edition

Yeah @evilskillit screenshots are fine, I forgot how big the files were. @neonrev Cool! So some of our carrots are descended from a near-disastrous expedition overseas, like Walter Raleigh and the potato. On my own expedition I brought back three spruce saplings from a distant mega taiga biome for the tree top walk. There's amazing creativity that comes out of, well, Creative mode but I prefer Survival mode for the stories. -

I redesigned the entrances to the tree top walk but can't edit inside the spawn zone. Could someone with appropriate permission please take away the wood pillar: With my main project complete (for now) I decided to explore. I wanted to be the first to circumnavigate the continent. But I found signs of pevious explorers: Outside an NPC village at -1442/62/323: an abandoned boat! On a distant shore at -1542/62/426, a lone crafting bench. @evilskillit, it would be cool if when you have time you check out http://overviewer.org/ and generate a Google map of the world! The tree top walk now extends to the mountain under thelimper's castle. If anyone is good at pixel art maybe make a skull or dot gobbler around the entrance... -

i'm much more interested in Survival than Creative, though the creations on the previous servers wre fun to check out. I've popped in to your server and built myself a house on the hill. Connection is quite good from Australia. -
Idle Thumbs the Podcast to go on hiatus after Episode 300 Thumbs to record 'mini-eps' eg. Bagblasts in lead up to 300 Thumbs secretly recording new podcast on new feed New podcast will not revolve around video games so Thumbs can take a break from constantly seeking out new games to play in preparation New podcast will feature same (first 1-50) Thumbs - Jake, Chris, Nick Everyone should stay subscribed to Thumbs feed as that is where they will put new Thumbs stuff if and when it happens No plans for Patreon or Kickstarter at this stage due to awkwardness doing this when podcasts are sponsored/have ads Twitch streams will continue Idlethumbs.net and other hosted shows not going away

Sean featured on Idle Thumbs 276 - Hype and Anticipation. He streamed Dota a handful of times on the Idle Thumbs Twitch channel. Most recently he was spotted guesting on Steve Gaynor's Twitch stream. Steve Gaynor is another classic Thumb. Steve's streams are "hosted" by the Idle Thumbs channel, which means they show up on the Thumbs page when live but are archived on Steve's. Sean's own Twitch streams including others with Steve are archived here. Sean's twitter is http://twitter.com/vanaman. Like any good American, he hates his shitty orange President.

Some time ago I started a thread on NeoGAF rating how various games worked on my Windows tablet: The Great NeoGAF Tablet PC gaming audit: games at your fingertips The quick summary is that very few games work well with the touch screen. Even point'n'click adventures which you'd expect to work well just don't, because they expect a mouse and a touch screen is not the same as a mouse. Of the games that worked, almost all of them controlled better with a mouse. One surprising frustration was that without a keyboard for you to press ESC, you can't even quit most games. I stopped adding to the thread when I sold my tablet, and I sold my tablet largely because it was useless as a gaming device. Things might have changed since then, and you might find a handful of games that make the effort worthwhile.

I heard of Time Commanders via Youtube faves Lindybeige & Scholagladiatoria, as they had taken part. It must have decent historical accuracy. While the title sounds weird, I wonder if it was chosen to evoke memories of the very popular British archaeological show Time Team. An American version would work if they used computer simulations of gunpowder-era warfare, ie. War of Independence, Civil War, even WWII. I don't know of any accurate simulators of those eras that are of the same visual appeal as the Total War series.

This will be my first time participating and also first game I've made. This will be a short text adventure, about the right scale for a first timer with only a couple weekends to work on it. I've been a fan of text adventures since sneakily playing the first scenes of a pirated copy of Leather Goddesses of Phobos on a family friend's computer. I Am Suspicious of Myself focuses on one night in the life of you, the protagonist. You have been given a couple of burnt DVDs with a bunch of cool movies on them. Your mission is to watch these movies. You have the whole night free and nowhere to be the next day so you should be able to get through them all before dawn. Who needs sleep, right? Problem is, you're already a bit tired and these movies are pretty trippy. There's one called Matrix that gets you thinking you're living in a simulation; another called Memento that has you checking for strange writing on your body from the previous day which you now can't remember. I'd tell you where Hellraiser takes you but I'd need to put up some sort of content warning first.

[Dev log] I Am Suspicious of Myself
Paul Smith replied to Paul Smith's topic in Wizard Jam 4 Archive
I've never seen the Bourne films! They're famous enough to be included as most players will be familiar with them. I'm going to have to do some research (ie. watch some movies) as I haven't seen Jacob's Ladder or Total Recall in years either. Also thanks for the wiki list, that's great. Lost Highway, Dark City, Truman Show are all potentials for inclusion, though I just thought of another that's not listed - The Sixth Sense. It'll be fun to write someone who's suspicious they might be a ghost... Thanks, though I don't think Twine is what I'm looking for as it looks like it's focused on a click-to-choose ("Choose Your Own Adventure") model rather than the traditional text input. I'm looking at Inform, TADS, Adrift and Quest as they appear to be the popular/best supported engines that came up on an intitial search. If there are any advocates for other interpreters please let me know! http://inform7.com http://www.tads.org/ http://www.adrift.co/cgi/adrift.cgi http://textadventures.co.uk/quest (Edit: beaten by seconds, thanks for the confirmation shallow_depths!) However I am also tempted by the Z-machine language used in Infocom's original games - I've done a bit of programming in my life and like Lisp which is what it's derived from. That might be a bit too hard for me to finish in the time I have so that might be something I explore later. -
Hi, a bit of a latecomer and this is my first game and first Jam but I think my project is small enough to be doable in the time I have: I Am Suspicious of Myself This will be a traditional (typing, not clicking) text adventure set in a single location. The story will be short and easy but I hope to insert a lot of responses to imaginative commands and Easter eggs. In my dev log I have posted a couple of requests for help: - I need to decide which text adventure parser I should use for ease but also flexibility - I need to know if I've missed any famous movies that feature false memories or an untrustworthy protagonist. Thanks!

Help needed: I also need to know if I've missed any popular/well-known movies that feature a false reality or false memories - a protagonist who is not what he/she seems and therefore has a reason to be suspicious of themselves. What I have so far: The Matrix Memento Total Recall Jacob's Ladder Fight Club Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Inception Hellraiser
