Also it's easy to have that perspective as an observer and not a victim.
  2. Oh yeah, I've heard yokes used for various drugs too. It's a word that means very little but it's fun to say so I still cling to it.
  3. Oh, I didn't make it clear. Yoke is just Irish. Apparently the Brits don't even use it? I'd be surprised if many did know it.
  4. "I'm up late cause I was working on a yoke." I can see that, if I was a dedicated farmer.

Same. And it does not help that they're Remo's.
  6. I didn't even realise twee was questionable? I guess being between your two landmasses makes it hard to know what's not common usage. I've also had trouble using the word yoke to mean 'some general indeterminate thing'. One person thought I was talking about a harness for an ox.

  10. Twin Peaks Rewatch 10: Coma

The scene with Ben and Jerry was my favourite this episode because it both seemed to say that the mill plot is a convoluted mess that no-one can follow and at the same time seemed to indicate that the two of them are children who can't make a real scheme work. When trying to determine what their next move should be, they go in circles for a bit before thinking "Why not just roast some marshmallows instead of dealing with this?"

That is the reasoning behind regional pricing and if you do purely take the average it makes sense but as has been pointed out that doesn't actually work on the individual level. Take me for example, I'm just on welfare and occasional freelance money but that's work for people with the cheaper currency that is dollars and it's notoriously underpaid so in total I'm not making minimum wage, let alone the national average.
  12. Life

This is generally how I want to approach it too, but funnily enough my current girlfriend of 3 years and I met online, but through a forum.and then adding each other on facebook. I played around with Tinder (a 'meeting people' app) for fun recently just to see what it was like and it did feel like it'd be a weird way to meet a potential date since I couldn't shake the feeling I was browsing products for one that fit my needs* more than I was looking for a human I liked. * This was really not meant to sound so gross.
  13. Job Hunting

I loathe CVs. My skills are not at all helpful to self promotion but I would be a damn good worker if I could prove it for just a day. I also really hate the job seeking advice people give because it always feels like they think you will either treat it as a full time job or you're only applying to a select number or jobs... Neither of which is ever true for me at least. Just admit that it's a shit situation and a poorly formed admission process that we have to put up with. Don't pretend that it's a fine system and just requires adapting to. I'll probably just try and do freelance/contract work, occasionally applying to particularly suitable jobs to be honest. It's far less secure but would retain more sanity.

I'm not sure I agree with the analysis that him being not white didn't matter. I haven't had time to read the linked articles so I need to read up on that but I have a different point to address on the matter. If you accept that people involved in the case suspected, incarcerated and convicted Adnan in part because of latent racism against him. Why wouldn't you think that people doubt his innocence for the same reason while listening? There's so little real/concrete evidence against him in this case that subjective judgement was a big part and I have my doubts about the case feeling so ambiguous if it had been a nice white american boy that got put in jail when he was 17. A massive draw in the show was the mystery and uncertainty, but if people's inherent bias had just made them believe he was wrongly convicted, then a lot of that is eliminated off the bat. The fact that Adnan is different also makes him feel more like a stranger that the audience doesn't know so they have less empathy view his case in a more distant way. They don't feel like he had the same experiences as them so they're both more likely to believe things being alleged and at the same time they feel more like they're just voyeurs observing this 'other' kind of person.

Isn't that not far off the usual rate we roughly get on regional pricing? 1.5 times seems appropriate to me... unfortunately. :/
  16. Idle Thumbs 189: Serious Ma'am

It was discussed a bit in the Serial thread on these forums but it's also uncomfortable to listen to an episode where Sarah Koenig says that she doesn't think racism was a significant factor in Adnan's conviction even though the episode goes on to demonstrate several ways that people were treating him racistly that made the case against him more compelling. Admittedly it is hard to read exactly how she felt because she obviously has edited in these sections of people being racist and therefore felt they were relevant. But she skirts the issue and even at the end seems to think that since they're not being blatantly racist it probably didn't affect his case that much.

  20. What are the must-see TV series?

Yeah, if I remember right, the season was cut short and they had to rush to finish some storylines without the original writers and the rushed ending really showed. I don't know what their excuse was after that season.
  21. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I've thought this too, it's a great idea in theory but I wonder why it hasn't been done properly? It's either much harder than it sounds, not as good as it sounds or not profitable enough for Valve to bother. It's hard to motivate yourself and hope it's just the last one...

  23. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I mean... I said that Tales of the Borderlands was a dumb idea but I've heard some people saying they enjoyed it. ...but Minecraft doesn't even have characters! Is someone at Telltale just upping the ante on making more and more outlandish premises for their series? "Telltale presents Tetris: the Harrowing Tale of a Soviet Tetrimino That Never Fit In"
  24. General Video Game Deals Thread

Yeah, that's what it looks like. And you can similarly only use a 1000 to make boosters, so I think Valve wants the leftovers to evaporate out of the economy (since the most any individual can lose that way is about a buck's worth).
