I can do android apps, let's team up Twig! Though I do wonder what has to be done to actually make such a thing truly safe from people turning it to dating/sex.

I'm not even joking, tinder is genuinely a fun game... obviously with the caveat that it's fun if you approach it as a game and I cannot speak to the experience of being a woman on their. Just mark yourself as interested in both genders, swipe any man you think might be interesting to talk to and swipe all the women. That seems to be the way to get some conversations going. Anecdotally, it also helped quite a bit when I switched my main picture from me with a flower in my hair to me wearing a suit. I think the fact that there are no stakes in it at all for me definitely makes it way more fun since I don't care if I get unmatched and I can just take a conversation anywhere... like trying to explain Spelunky to someone who didn't play any video games at all. Worth noting that on paper Tinder is supposed to be a place to meet people and just chat... but that's only on paper.

Thanks thumbs! I am maintaining terrified optimism. My list of things to buy when I have money is mostly just a pair of shoes that won't fall apart after 2 months and some dental treatment. It's a 2 month contact (with the traditional "maybe more after that" clause) so I'm not going to be racking up the biggest pile of cash. Incidentally SuperBasedMan (previously Boy) is my evil doppelganger that sees bias only in others instead of conquering it in himself. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to celebrate with a game of tinder.

I'm doing favour of role playing. Especially as each player is a new person so they could take some influence from their successor as well as the in game traits but they're basically deciding their own character. Do people think a duke is a good compromise for amount of power to start?

Anticipation is the worst. I got up from my desk in my course to get something and started chatting to a guy for a few minutes, but when I realised I left my phone behind I figured I should go back in case I got a call about the job. But when I got back there was actually an email sitting for me, and when I saw it was from them I figured that I didn't get it or they would have phoned. Turns out I got the job. What the hell. I don't know what to do with myself now, apart from rearranging my life of course. Holy shit.
-
I haven't gotten a call back about my interview/the job yet so for now I have to continue distracting myself with the gay guys on tinder that are aggressively hitting on me. (I may have been wrong to overlook tinder as GOTY 2014)

*scraps idea for our first character* I also move that if we go with suggestions, whoever's suggestion is chosen definitely doesn't go first. So that someone else can play the character they picked out.
-
That's also a good point, how ought we settle the matter of where to start? Do we leave it up to the whims of the first player or try some sort of randomising system?

I wish it was called Master of Unlocking Edition.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

But it should be Luigi's cap, not Mario's. -
I'd be up for this for sure. I am pretty sure that the way DLC works is that you need the relevant DLC to play as a character, eg. If someone with the Old Gods DLC was playing a pagan and their succesor was pagan, then technically other players without the DLC could still open the save file but play as different characters. Similarly, if you were a pagan but your son wasn't then I think we'd get away with it. I think it's easiest to play without any DLC though, since you can just turn off all of it when you load up the game. Also I am totally writing my posts as a pure in character diary.

Thematically sure, I guess I didn't think of it that way. I was mostly thinking that the resolution of the plot wont be worth the build up because I just don't think Gravity Falls is about good plot even if it's forced into that mold.
-
The gameplay feel of 999 (and I assume VLR, haven't played that one) is definitely not like Dangan Ronpa but the story certainly has a similar tone to it so I do think they're worth a go.
-
So you're saying that his life up til now is all just a blur?

I do like the developing trend of hinting at a wider world without having an explicit narrative (like in SU and Adventure Time) especially since I recently caught up on Gravity Falls and I'm really not expecting the main plot thread to be that good. It might be kinda fun or interesting when it ends, but because it's in the format of an episodic show it's going to have problems with loopholes and things like (season 2 episode 6-8ish spoiler) You can make justifications for presumably anything but jumping through the hoops isn't worth it when the thing that's actually really good about the show is just the fun and the comedy. The main plot is a vague hook but I think when they have to conclude it, that'll make it very hard to continue the show especially since at least some people are bound to be disappointed.

This is reminding me of an idea I had for a game that was about alien parasites (ie. Futurama's brainslugs) that were landing on earth and taking over the world. You would play as one of the brainslug's, taking control of your human host and forcing them to do your bidding (you wanted the invasion to stop or something, who cares?). Except even though the host usually doesn't have control, they are aware of all the actions their body enacts, so the more you go around killing humans the more distraught they would be and might break your control or have physical reactions to their ordeal and you have to wrestle them back in control and try to keep them largely healthy. ...but then when you analyse that properly it's clearly another resource system to manage, just with different justification and window dressing. Which I'm sure is what happens whenever people try to do this. At least with my idea the dehumanising aspect is probably consistent with the fiction (since I'm assuming the aliens don't care much about humans).

Yeah, I had heard about that. I don't think it'll bother me too much, I know not to expect more in the direction of the episodes and I'm alright with the limitation forcing their hand into such an unusual direction. That kind of thing happens all the time to create some really enjoyable results.

Yeah frequently an issue with these discussions I've found is that you need to remember a key fact. That you are discussing the issue with someone who fundamentally values animals differently to you. I think of other animals as being just as important as people. That's not the same as treating them exactly the same, but it means that I don't consider the lives of humans worth more than other animals. However clearly other people here don't feel the same and we'll get into unproductive conversations with each other if we don't recognise the other's viewpoint. That said, if you don't have a specific belief in this field then it's worth thinking about times you've tried to discuss sexism or racism with people who don't consider it a big deal and how frustrating it is to try and having a dialogue with them. The situation is not the same, (because hopefully these people don't consciously feel like women or people of colour are worth less than them) but the frustration is familiar to me. And to be honest, TychoCelchuuu, I think you need to bear it in mind more. I do feel the connection between human and nonhuman prejudices. But you can't aggressively argue with that as a foregone conclusion and expect people to fully engage with you. A frank and honest explanation of your belief system without challenging theirs (or the lack of theirs) will give someone far more to think about than trying to call them out on behaviour you feel is inherently immoral. Anyone here absolutely doesn't have to share my outlook, but sometimes discussing stuff like this can feel like the other person/people being sceptical is an active attempt to dissuade your own beliefs and invalidate them, rather than an explanation of personal disinterest. ie. The desert island question could certainly be a curiosity but could just as easily feel as poking holes in someone's logic to undermine their whole idea. I've only been able to skim most of this thread, so I'm not accusing anyone of that here but I've definitely had it before.

Since this is briefly the anime thread I may as well mention that I recently saw all the episodes of Evangelion. I have yet to see any of the movies but I thought it was fantastic. I'm going to slap everything in spoiler tags, just cause.

I guess this is a good time to give everyone the distinct reminder that some vegetarians and vegans (myself included) value animal lives equally whether they are human or not. So calling a farm slavery or making analogies to mistreatment of certain peoples is comparing like with like to us, not an exaggerated comparison. This is genuinely how we feel even if others among you don't see it that way.

I'm on a phone so I can't say nearly as much as I'd like, but in response to the question of price Definitely your nutritional requirements and local shop availability will highly impact what you spend. But I caution people to actually think about what vegetarian food is available. I can buy a 20c tin of kidney beans in Tesco to replace meat. Obviously that's the lowest end, and will be poor quality food but compared to the cheapest meat it's no competition. And there's a range of protein sources available at varying prices here that are overall just cheaper when I'm not buying vegetarian sausages or veggie mince (which are always expensive). If you're not sure whether or not your shops contain this stuff, take a look and find out for yourself. If you have none of them, my condolences, but I suspect people would be surprised what's available (I know I was when I turned vegan)

I had a job interview yesterday that went really well. I'll hear back about whether or not I've got it later but right now my brain is going mad with thoughts of if I get offered it. I'd not only get a real income(not that I know what the pay is...) , but also have a good job and be working in a twice Oscar nominated studio. I don't know if I'll get it. I'll be able to accept it if I don't and move on with other plans I have. But after how it went I am now entertaining the idea that they could take me on and aaaaaahhh. I need to stop thinking about it, but I probably won't.

Marginalisations are natural due to our psychology encouraging various biases and prejudices. In particular the process of othering and people's inclination to assign meaning based on small sample sizes both inherently create prejudices towards social groups in society. Our bodies naturally incline us to want to gorge on sugar and fat filled foods, that doesn't mean that's a good idea at all. Does a natural inclination towards violence make it ok? Or a natural desire for sex make rape an acceptable side effect of instincts? Also thank you for that Bjorn, I wholly admit that I had a pretty basic model of the impact on the environmental side so I want to read though that again later and get a clearer full idea of the situation. (right now I probably shouldn't be on here...)

Overall I agree with the gist of what you're saying Bjorn. I've definitely seen my fair share of vegan superiority (sometimes it seems like it springs up in response to feeling oppressed, which we are all familiar with but that doesn't excuse it) But I think one point that can be refuted about eating meat is that for every kilo of meat you eat, you also add the strain of producing all the food the animal had to eat to produce that one kilo of meat, instead of perhaps just eating plant food and cutting out the meaty middleman. I certainly agree that any small victory or improvement is worthwhile. My vegan philosophy is about reducing my impact and hopefully by proxy encouraging others to do the same, though I never really bring it up unless they ask. I think if someone is a vegan but doesn't want to give any more thought to the ills of the world then that's a failing on their part because there's always more that anyone can do. And if someone does lean on the moral crutch of being vegan or vegetarian as their sole moral crusade then it's a very limited way they're trying to save the world.

Sorry, quoting you was unrelated to that last note. I wrote the note then added the quote of yours. (I think I was literally noticing and editing my post as you posted that)
