Oof. I got bad news about someone today and it makes me worried for him. I'm going to be vague since I'm discussing his private life in part, but basically he's quite poorly motivated and passive. He doesn't actually take steps to do anything and just coasts through life. He wants to make games, but he doesn't have a strong inclination to actually work on art/coding/design skills, and he lacks the dedicated motivation to follow through with them a lot. When he does stuff I try to be encouraging and motivating, but he's generally hard to talk to. You often have to drag conversation out of him if it's not about some aspect to nerd culture. So today I heard that what I thought was going to be a positive boosting force for him, is now dead. He can't continue with it any more, and it turns out his interest in it had been massively waning over the past year. He now has no plans, and because of the way he operates, he's allowing his mother to just suggest that he gets a job, any job, to keep him busy for the next year. I have doubts about if he can get a job given the current climate and his shiftlessness. But even if he does, that wont stop him aimlessly drifting through life AND letting stuff happen to him with no inclination to decide for himself. I'm genuinely wondering at this point if I should try to talk to him, not that I'm even sure what I'd say. I have never had this same mindset as him, I'm very driven even if I have other motivation problems. So I haven't had to actually deal with the same thing and weirdly that even makes me feel a little guilty. But I'm just worried that since so few people can really talk to him, if I don't try then he'll just keep drifting and not address it.

Lord of the (Necro)dance - Daily Challenge!
SuperBiasedMan replied to Trip Hazard's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I had a good run on my new computer, got the final boss down to one heart before I goofed. So I thought I'd record the replay to test how well my computer can handle that. It was a good run! I got a blood lance so I basically kept refilling my health and I also killed the Shopkeeper twice as well as got 20 bombs for no reason. But it turns out running through my phone internet is liable to throw off the replay, because I watched myself midway through level 3 start randomly going in a circle for no reason and getting myself killed. The only thing I can think of is that the saved set of moves somehow had download/stream problems and the game mixed up what my inputs were, but the game could still actually play out as if I had made those moves. Which is weird but also great. -
Anyone who disagrees, according to them.

In conclusion to my previous post, I'm just a big baby. When I met up with my parents they did say that they thought I made the wrong choice, but they entirely listened to my points and agreed with me in the end. So I guess me worrying about them thinking I'm too immature was me being presumptuous about them being close minded and ultimately showed me as being immature.

I liked 99% of the game but the very hardest platforming collectible and the final boss fight were too much for me so I bowed out. I'm pretty fickle with ditching games though because I'm not very concerned with following them to completion. I felt like all the hardest bits were optional (aside from the final boss fight because I never care to become good at combat) and I enjoyed the platforming even though I agree that the moveset felt pretty bland and didn't really offer options, it was just that powers were strictly necessary for certain parts.

If anyone here follows the @sweden account my girlfriend is currently try on it and enjoying her time. A few countries have this kind of thing, basically a country owned account where they let a new person control it each week. Each person has some connection to the country and tweets about their life, and among them all you're meant to get an insight to the country. I recommend looking into if your country has one (even if you're currently living elsewhere) as it seems to be a lot of fun and they like getting a range of people involved.

Damn. I gotta hoover up all the DLC and play this game again, it's been too long.

Idle Thumbs 216: Super Hypercast
SuperBiasedMan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Ooh. I really want to make an I'll Comes twitter bot. Also clearly J Crowd Came is the best. -
I know that labels are useful and validating as well as more convenient and understandable for people. But I feel like we're encroaching on the point where it's better to try make people understand that gender and sexuality are full of diversity and not rigid systems.

Not to sound too gamer broy, but Spelunky and Crypt of the Necrodancer start to take a good half hour+ when you're experienced at them.

No, not quite that kind of decision. (though I am in Sweden right now) It's just about us turning down an offer of a cheap apartment from a relative for a better more stable one that costs us more.

Hope your landlady is doing better Mangela. Surgery is bad enough without complications. In Super Biased life me and my girlfriend made a hard decision about where we'll live. I won't go into details but we thought about it a lot and eventually decided on what we think is best. What sucks is, I sent a message to my parents telling them about it and their lack of response so far tells me that they disagree with my choice as I feared. They're not the kind of parents to force me to do anything and for that I'm grateful. But they will be insistent upon their advice as if I'm making choices on a pure whim. Its frustrating to be seen as this much of a child but I'm sure this is the kind of parenting that never really goes away.

If you want terrible results, just use the YouTube transcripts. -
Idle Thumbs 216: Super Hypercast

I think that is fair. I'm not arguing in total favour of the criticism. My point is just that it was a genuine response, not fabricated for the sake of making a point. -

It looks even more ludicruous, continuing their downward spiral that began in series 1. I look forward to this.

Idle Thumbs 216: Super Hypercast

I think it's unfair to read that article about the racist connotations of Cuphead as reaching, because it's the writer expressing their genuine reaction to the art style. The article is basically tracing why that reaction might come from seeing this art style. I didn't read it as a harsh criticism about how terribly racist Cuphead is, just highlighting the fact that there's a strong racist connection to the art style that people should be aware of and not evoke thoughtlessly. -
I wonder what percentage of the population could actually stay if this rule applied to all citizens.

Unfortunately it's pretty predictable that a game with problems focuses on how they're not as bad as a truly despicable group.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
SuperBiasedMan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I agree it's lazy rather than socially responsible, but not doing this is even lazier and worse off for people anyway so I think I'd rather this course for it. As much as I hate Apple's idea of what a game is, a lot of the games on their store do fit into their mould. -
In British news, something has come of David Cameron's ridiculous quotes about how "for too long we've left our citizens alone too easily. Saying 'as long as you don't break the law, we'll leave you alone.' " There's a proposal which will say that non EU immigrants can be deported if they're not earning enough money. The threshold is also a ludicrous one. It's that you have to make at least £35,000. This is also supposed to apply to people who've been in the country for 5 years, as if the amount wasn't bad enough you would think that living in a country for half a decade entitles you to citizenship. (apologies but I can't copy paste on the forums with my current set up, can someone Google "New UK immigration rules: will you be affected?" to give others the link)

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
SuperBiasedMan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
It looks like Apple have pulled any game that contains a depiction of the confederate flag http://toucharcade.com/2015/06/25/apple-removes-confederate-flag/ Some people are pleased that Apple is following suit with other companies that want to stop the widespread use of a racist symbol, but this is also bringing up people's unease with how Apple handles the app store. Literally any appearance of the flag has lead to removal of the app, and people have noted that films which contain the flag aren't removed from iTunes. This does reinforce my belief that I'll never want to make an iGame unless it's just a port from Android, but frankly I think this is probably better than not doing anything. There's a ton of games on that store and I can't really imagine that many were made socially consciously. I hope that Apple will allow games that handle it well to be returned to the store, but even if that doesn't happen I prefer this to letting the shitty games roam free on the store. -
@Apple Cider: If you can spare the space Pocket Casts does a good job of actually downloading the episodes. Just remember to change the setting so it saves them on your SD card if you have one. @griddelol That's funny cause I particularly like her different voice, meant I instantly recognised her and was on board with the podcast.

Idle Thumbs 215: Flirtation & Procreation
SuperBiasedMan replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I am most tentatively interested because that would be a ton of fun but I can in no way commit right no with no internet/consistent game playing time.
