I think that problem is that some people still like sausages even when they know all about the crap that goes into them.

I thought the implication was that Gawker wouldn't care if this wasn't a notable rival and that showed how it was an intentionally underhanded ploy. Not that the reduced notability made it more acceptable.

I look forward to the update where there's an explosion of start up culture in his vault. -
Lord of the (Necro)dance - Daily Challenge!
SuperBiasedMan replied to Trip Hazard's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I'm not proud. If the voice had worked you could hear me basically give rambley a tutorial on the stuff I was doing and how it works. Essentially spoiling the game for anyone who wants to work it out for themselves. (Mr. Nuttz?) -
Lord of the (Necro)dance - Daily Challenge!
SuperBiasedMan replied to Trip Hazard's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I had a sweet run and with my new computer set up I decided to try recording from the replay. I did previously attempted to record while playing and it... did not work. So here's today's dailies: ...also something happened to my mic so I sound like a chipmunk. Uhhh enjoy? -
I always feel like my problem is trying to get the strategy of how I should do it rather than word finding. In a way, long words screw you over by opening too much of the board and making you leave letters to time out, reducing the potential for bear growth. I'm also surprised how often I'll have 3 seemingly uncombinable letters left and it turns out that the game says they're a fine word. Also yes, it's my favourite and I literally just got it today. You chose a good time to post about AB.

Idle Thumbs 218: Yanis' Last Move

That was a great post, thanks for writing it! -
But it's meaningless in the way that self preservation is meaningless. We don't get to live forever but that doesn't mean there's no difference between falling over dead today and years from now.

It's like you believe in a meritocracy or something?

The alienation they feel from women is terrifying. I feel so damn lucky that I never fell prey to it.

Avidly reading the Uber vs Lyft thread reminds me how little time I spend here actually discussing games.
-
My concern is not the safety, but the idea that a company/a few companies get to be in control of how the cars drive. This thread is not a glowing review of a business creating a system for people. The system may have also changed since the driver quit.
-
They are the most terrifying form of robot to me. As bad as people are, I trust them as drivers more than as system designers.

Both Uber and Lyft operate on the idea that their employees are just 'contractors', which in modern times essentially means that there's no job security, no benefits, no minimum wage. A company owes nothing at all to a contractor, except the exact amounts they earn for the jobs they do. They're incentivised to have way more contractors than they need, since that costs them nothing and makes the service more available, even though that then actively harms the employees who have less and less work. Also drivers are beholden to the whims of their passengers, since passengers can give them a bad rating and get the drivers fired. Uber can also change their cut of the profits on a whim, and the drivers have no means to negotiate. Also the services are designed to squeeze as much effort out of the drivers as it can with complete disregard for them as humans, because realistically they actually want a fleet of self driving cars, not people. And as explained before, once you start working at Uber they sometimes will try to get you to buy a car from them with ludicrous interest rates. The short of it is that both are bad, but Uber in particular is more popular and therefore abuses their drivers more. Also sure, regulations can be bullshit. But Uber is literally illegal in France. It was a ruling brought in specifically because of Uber's shitty practices. But Uber decided to just flaunt the law and continue working there.

Don't ask "can I have a job", email and say something about how you've just graduated and you'd appreciate if he let you know about any jobs. You could reference that you'd love the area and company, as long as it doesn't sound forced or anything. Mostly just don't make it sound like you expect him to hand a job over. Also for your own sake, be aware that he might just not answer. His connection to you is tenuous, so if he's busy/lacks any leads for you/both then he'll quite possibly prefer not to answer rather than having to answer with a polite no.

I would prefer that but Pixar tends to try being pretty inoffensive so I would be surprised if it was at all the intention. I question that, or at least criticise how little they committed to it.

Yeah, I just saw it this morning and it certainly has issues. They got stuck with similar gender representation problems when designing the female volcano in the opening short. There's nothing new in it to be honest, by which I mean they've made no significant progress. If you're optimistic you could point out that there's a good gender balance in the cast, but that doesn't mean they're doing a good job with the designs of the characters they do have. Both in the sameface and samebody problem.

Oh and one more thing about Inside Out. At the end I discovered that Kyle McLachlan played techbro dad. That was a fun reveal to get after the fact, cause I didn't notice at all.

So I finally saw Song of the Sea* at the week end. It's a damn good movie in a lot of ways. Obviously the art style, it's so wonderful and different that it is 100% worth the occasional bit of clunk from it. The story is great, a nice way to look as nostalgia without trying to force the idea of reliving the past, it's more about remembering it properly instead of letting it fade away and I thought they did a good job on the sibling relationship. It was also fun having the mix of modern and old irish culture moments. The bus driver's conversation is 100% irish. I also saw Inside Out too. I thought it was pretty good, with some caveats. Their way of modelling personality was a little weird. The girl's defining traits are honesty, friendship, family, goofy and hockey? None of that paints a unique individual, and I feel like it's a poor representation of how personality is shaped, as if a single key memory can build one whole trait. Also the short film before IO involved 2 volcanoes and it's terrible that even a female volcano is molded to look like a pretty womantm even though the other one just straight up looked like a volcano with a face on it. (Both films) * I'm not biased cause I didn't work here while they were making it, so everything's fine! You cannot disprove my logix.
