We are on the same metric of success. I don't expect thanks or recognition, just hoping that it will have a positive effect on the other person. I did the questioning and offering alternatives approach, but I didn't commit to returning back to the same person to see if it made any difference down the line. The actual conversations didn't give me faith that progress had been made, that's where my assessment came from.

What do you deem as a success though? I've had a lot of perfectly civil discussions with gamergate supporters in the early days on twitter. But I'd say few of them were successful about actually addressing their misplaced anger and beliefs. It takes a long time to actually follow through a full conversation with someone about this stuff. Especially when you're removing the ego and just trying to discuss something openly instead of pushing hard on convincing them they're wrong. In the end it felt like I would pour so much time in to mostly learn more about them without offering them any new insights. So they learn nothing, and I learn nothing new. Maybe I was just bad at it, but I would imagine most people are to be honest. I just feel like it's a big ask to expect people to pour in that much time and respect to an individual in the hope that they learn something about what they're doing.

Then please direct bribes to me.

That reminds me, I still don't really know how ME3 ends. My fancut of that series is just that it stops with my ME1 ending

Things like that make me wish games could be as easily re edited as directors cuts of films, or fan cuts. In theory you can mod some games to do that, but it's nowhere near as simple as as cutting a movie to stitch it back together. (note that I know that recuts involve a lot of artistry, but relatively little technology overhead compared to games where moving stuff around can break sequences and progression)

I assume you're just using "send money" as a phrase, but in case you're not we just use the free version so you can sign up with that link problem machine posted, no money needed. (The paid version of slack is per person per month and we've been over a hundred for a while now, so it would literally be thousands of dollars a month)

[Question] Unity3d first person development
SuperBiasedMan replied to cassettecoroner's topic in Game Development
I'm looking at doing something similar in the future. I was thinking of having an object that's always at an appropriate spot in front of the camera that I can programmatically turn off and on as well as change the text of. -
This is a great idea for a jam involving something I suck at, but really want to practice. Gonna try pull it together, but I expect I'll struggle with making it honest and stylistically cohesive.

I think the idea that Americans don't have a strong culture probably comes from the media's general presentation of American as default and others as exceptions. It subtley conditions you to think of things you do as just things all people do instead of things american people do. I absolutely have a strong irish culture. I don't identify with plenty of stuff (no interest in our sports, I don't watch much of our TV) but I'm still clearly of the culture because of things it instilled in me growing up. Having a relationship with someone from another culture is a good way to notice the fundamental differences in your societies.

For a minute I was wondering what historical thing STD stood for. -

It's just 4 PS1's duct taped together anyway. -
I get the impression we'll have an episode dedicated to that later so she doesn't want to spill the beans yet.

I agree with every part of this (though I've never heard of this case). That music is a shame, I wonder if there'll be bootleg copies of the cast that mix in the old theme?

Depending on the exact context of the sentence I think it's "love". If I'm reading it right, because it's "people who love". "people" is the subject of that verb so it has to conjugate as third personal plural. This is definitely how it should work in a sentence like this: "A weeaboo is one of those people who love anime". It's "people" that "love anime", not "one". "one" just happens to be among the "people who love anime".

I'm not educated enough on this topic to present anything significantly useful, but I don't understand why Gor's arguments were being read as absolutes. Often this thread seems to be about highlighting a factor in privilege to be aware of. But sometimes discussion here ends up being read as a declaration of what white people aren't allowed do due to inherent guilt, instead of something to be mindful of.

I think he's saying social justice has gone too far. (I have no idea either, I assumed I'd need to know what collard greens and ham hocks are first)

Oh weird, the topic for this season is "What is Firewatch?"

Idle Thumbs 240: Mikami's Iconic Hat

I really liked the metaphor of Diablo for Nick's relationship to Janel. Mostly passive, just independently doing your own thing until you're being attacked by killer bees and have to call for help. -
We'll have to try keep it clear which we're discussing though, to prevent muddled conversation.
-
Whether or not you care above the something is irrelevant to how polite it is. The whole point of politeness is that you're making concessions for other people's sake.

"I'm sorry, I can't come into work today. I have an infliction of Cars 2." I work in an animation studio, they'll understand.
-
Forgetting is still impolitely not thinking about it. (again I don't agree but I can see the reasoning)
-
I wonder how many people will be seeing Cars 2 for the first time in this rewatch? I am certainly one.
-
It doesn't matter to me but I'm guessing it bothers people not because of the effort involved (in fact it being easy means that it's easy for someone to do themself) but because it indicates a tiny sleight where you haven't thought about the next person enough to do them a tiny courtesy and leave the microwave in the state you found it.

There's a lot of baggage problematic baggage in insinuating that not getting laid makes people hateful of women. Surely GamerGators have done enough shitty actions that criticism and insults can be based on things they actually did instead of patriarchal assertions.
