  1. The two fastest clears so far were both Drow / Witch Doctor / Jakiro / Abbadon. Seems like you just want ranged damage, crowd control, and healing, which makes sense. My games as LC have been painful so far.

  2. I've been trying to PUG it and it's a complete nightmare. Only been able to kill the first boss once.

Hitting 4k MMR has also been a complete nightmare. The 3500-4000 range was pretty solid in terms of people not raging and actually picking reasonably, but everyone wants to play hyper greedy again suddenly.

  3. I finished my first text adventure after years of writing other stuff: https://paulenn.itch.io/archive-dive

The best description I could come up with was: Archive Dive is an exploration through the records of a powerful, obtuse, and mildly incompetent global organization tasked with preserving reality as most people know it. The body of the game focuses heavily on themes of weirdness, violence, humor, the humor that can be found in violence, and the way in which some things just never work out.  Many of the characters are from my works of traditional fiction, but the game should be accessible to anyone.

Ivy grenades work wonders against the Watcher.  I beat him the first time I got there using ivy grenades and the rapier.  Freezing items are also useful.  Just make sure you time it so he's stuck somewhere you can hit him.

I had a very turret-centric build and couldn't get it to stay anywhere useful, so that was probably my problem. I'm sticking with my assessment of "hard" though.

  5. I have confirmed that the last boss is very hard. Fire and Poison seem particularly powerful even after the devs decided to nerf Bleed, but I assume those will be toned down too soon enough.

  6. I lost doubling down my MMR for the first time yesterday. That 50+ hit kind of stings. Given the quality of the hats and the features provided in the compendium, I would definitely say it's been worth my money. Really excited for the campaign thing getting introduced next week (hopefully.) How's everyone else finding the ramp-up to TI7?

  7. I don't experience the same primal fear that the Thumbs do when it comes to potentially dangerous scientific advances and it's a very odd thing to experience second-hand.

Also pertaining to that, waiting for whatever genetic modification nonsense is being proposed as a way to cure cancer (probably incredibly speculatively) may not be necessary by then. Immunotherapy has proven effective in treating metastatic skin cancer via the body's immune system where conventional treatments likely would have failed. To the extent of my knowledge, there are no inherent restrictions to it that would prevent similar treatments being used on other varieties of cancer in the future. The only problem right now is that it makes a small number of patients' brains rupture.

  8. I've been playing a lot of this game. My only quibble so far is that some boss attack hitboxes don't really seem to make sense. I feel like I'm getting hit a lot where an animation will eventually be before it actually extends to that point.

  9. Even if those specific terms are  unfair, it's still a problem of an uncompetitive market, which I primarily blame on the poor quality of the products provided by other organizations. Valve can currently operate the way it does because there are no other organizations who can take advantage of dissatisfaction about Valve's practices, but I don't think that's reflective of misguided consumer loyalty to the "brand" or whatever in the way the article seems to suggest. There just aren't currently any satisfactory alternatives (in my eyes, at least,) and it's not the responsibility of consumers to sacrifice quality just to make a market competitive, it's the responsibility of firms to provide high quality products that entice a change in consumer habits.

The way I see it, pretty much every other game marketplace has essentially given up ever trying to compete with Valve and are just content hanging out in its periphery. I'm not going to blame a company for trying to make money when its supposed competition aren't even trying.

  10. I was surprised this didn't come up, but instead of eyes and brains falling out of the car, doesn't it seem more likely that a withered human corpse wired into the car like one of those moths would be inside? The easiest way a car could kill someone inside it would be either trapping them until they starve or exposing them to extreme temperatures, so it seems likely that their final drivers are still within, possibly being integrated into the car itself. Is this the truth Pixar didn't want us to know?

  11. Some thoughts on the game after 20ish hours (avoiding spoilers):

    • I really recommend playing on Hard or higher. The increased HP of enemies really made me consider whether or not I wanted to invest bullets into killing them, especially at places where resources are scarce. Makes for a much more tense experience.
    • For some reason I can't quite figure out, the choices that the game asks you to make feel surprisingly meaningful. They're of a binary and abstract kind I'm not super fond of some times, but even then I feel compelled to stop and think about them. It might be that the really excellent voice acting humanizes the other characters more than I'm used to.
    • There's really excellent voice acting.
    • I think the biggest flaw of the game so far for me is that it does not always do the best job communicating whether or not something should be immediately possible or if something will happen later that makes it possible (plot-wise. It does a pretty good job of telling you when upgrades will let you do stuff.)

  12. Yeah, I already had like $50 steam bucks from selling a hat, so I thought the $35 compendium was worth it since I absolutely require the map unlock at 150. Valve has a way of making them way too good to pass up on.

  13. I keep cursing my team by doing the team bet when we have clearly superior team comp. Putting too much stress on them or something probably. Mostly I'm excited to see what this multiplayer campaign thing they're advertising is.
