Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty
Treasure Goblin replied to Problem Machine's topic in Video Gaming
Thanks I really enjoyed streaming Hyper Light Drifter tonight and I'll continue that for the rest of the game. I had some mild sound issues and my internet dropped out a couple of times in the middle but it was definitely more successful. I guess like a lot of things streaming is something that really just takes a lot of time, effort and mild tweaking. -

My PC setup is pretty rudimentary at this stage - I'd love to save up eventually for a new gaming PC but that will be a long way off. The PS4's speeds aren't great but I can a stream consistently working, albeit on low resolutions, so I think that is what i'll start with. I'm super nervous about having a camera setup at the moment but once I'm streaming more confidently it's something I'll definitely think about adding! -

Yeah I noticed that - I'm not using the best mic setup but i think it was also game-dependent because people said it was better in the Binding of Isaac than it was in Bloodborne. It's kind of a catch 22 about streaming for me - I'd be happy to upgrade to having a camera setup and a better mic if I felt like streaming was becoming a bigger and more viable part of my life, but if I don't get that stuff sorted it might never move forward from what it is now. -

Yay you got to catch a bit of my stream! I learned a lot from this stream because it was really the first one where I had any kind of audience interaction. It was distracting but fun! I think I really underestimated how hard it is to stream, but i really enjoyed it. I think maybe while I get the hang of the stress of streaming I should probably play some more low key stuff, I've been debating picking up FFXV before or after christmas but either way I'll probably stream that. I have also learned that I probably shouldn't stream first thing in the morning on an empty stomach I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a slack channel so we could talk about streaming? Not necessarily as a way to just advertise but maybe just talk things through. Just an idea. -

Oh god, I know the feeling of terror about being a lady on the webs. The thing is that this is such a cool community it's really a great place to build a base of regular viewers because everyone is really cool about that stuff, and I think that will generally foster a healthy community around your streams as your viewership grows. I also really admire how well you are doing given that you haven't been streaming for long at all! Seeing your small, loyal, really lovely crew of regular viewers really helped inspire me to take the plunge, even if at the moment i'm just streaming a couple of daily challenges to begin with here and there. Keep up the good work! -

Thanks Problem Machine and eRonin! I'm pretty late to the party but i'll probably be streaming some Darkest Dungeon as I blindly stumble through that later on today if my internet allows for it! -

I literally just streamed for the first time (A binding of isaac daily challenge run), but forgot to change my setting to automatically archive the stream so it's gone forever, oops? Anyway I'm going to try and build up my confidence streaming some more! I'm generally most likely going to be streaming roguelikes/roguelites, and maybe the occasional RPG. I'm not really going to have a set schedule, but i'll probably do a bit now that I'm just working and not at uni for a couple of months. https://www.twitch.tv/thelunarcat Edit: I'm not super comfortable with a webcam setup yet but I have an Australian accent which is either nice or incredibly unappealing -
It Twists And Turns... Like A Twisty, Turny Thing- Planet Coaster

I haven't been playing Planet Coaster but I've been enjoying watching the thumbs stream it. Someone made a Firewatch coaster and it showcases how much detail and complexity can go into this game: -
Idle Weekend November 5, 2016: Marathon Time!

If anyone is interested in watching some of the marathon games Danielle talked about here's a good list of clips . -
I've already completed Lisa the Joyful (according to the in game save times it took me just a little over two hours). I have mixed feelings about it but overall I found it enjoyable as someone who really liked Lisa the Painful. I mostly just wished for more of the dark humor that Painful had, and it would have been nice to have a bit more interaction with weird characters in the world as Joyful is really combat-focused and mostly lacked the little moments that made Painful intriguing for me.

Want to date a pug? Now you can with "Hot Date"
Treasure Goblin replied to deleted user's topic in Video Gaming
I played a bit of this last night, the pugs were also very unimpressed with me, especially in agreeing with them that the new Simpsons just didn't have the charm of the older series. -
Oops double post, sorry.

I second this, it was how I first discovered Hatoful Boyfriend way back before it was on Steam when you had to purchase it through a dubious-looking Japanese site. I'm kind of a sucker for the terrible silliness of dating sims in general, but this is really great commentary on the game which is a pretty great parody of the genre but also goes WAY deeper/more bananas than I ever assumed it could.

An expansion is on it's way sometime this year, with new modes, items, bosses etc. This is good news to me as I put the game down after repeatedly beating my head against the wall trying to finish everything with that character and I'd like to have new things to find and enjoy within the game again. Also apparently Florian Himsl (programmer of the original Isaac) has been playing around with Isaac and is developing an update for it. Initial details for both are posted on the Isaac blog: http://bindingofisaac.com/post/110884940374/afterbirth

One part you're missing of is the very start of 67: Dot Gobbler when Sean is talking about how he doesn't like soda much but he enjoys club soda for the mouth feel, definitely one of my favourite preamble Thumbs moments.

I've been playing rebirth on mac with a PS3 controller and using GamePad Companion. Apparently it's a program that I paid for at some point but I don't remember doing that so it can't be much. It also works with X360 controllers, I haven't tried any others. I was just having a really successful run until I managed to accidentally pick up cursed eye, which meant I kept warping out of the room when I was I had the wafer and my hearts maxed out, but after getting warped throughout the floor constantly every time I took damage I eventually ran out of hearts. I don't like cursed eye. EDIT: I also had curse of the darkness on that floor too, thanks game.

I was completing a challenge (just killed mom) when a door opened up in the room that was different to the angel/devil doors. I went in and there were four items in a large room, and once I picked one up it triggered a boss rush - I fought every boss from the original Isaac other than mom/moms heart and the final bosses for sheol/cathedral/chest, two at a time. I'm not sure whether this was a bug or not but I was expecting to get an achievement or unlock a new item but nothing happened after I beat it other than being rewarded with mom's pill bottle (uh... thanks?). It was really cool though. I forgot how much I missed the sense of discovery, which was one of the things that appealed to me about Isaac initially. Edit: I just downloaded the new patch and now I'm not having black screen issues so I can actually fight mom's heart, yay.
-
So the graphical glitch I encountered makes mom's heart impossible, because the screen stays black the whole time. I guess for the mean time I can stick to the challenges that end at the first mom fight and hope that it's a bug that gets fixed pretty soon (I think this is a mac-specific bug, I havent had the chance to boot it up on the pc yet)
-
Just played my first run - I have been really excited for Rebirth as I clocked over 300 hours in the original game + expansion. I've had a problem with the screen momentarily going black every time an enemy does a "stomp" move though (such as when Mom's foot comes down or Monstro's jump attacks). That aside though I'm loving it already. The new items are great and I'm really enjoying seeing how items synergise with one another. Maybe this was something advertised heavily in previews but I ignored pretty much all of them because I wanted to go into it blind, and I'm glad I did because it was a nice surprise.

Treasure Goblin replied to tegan's topic in Video Gaming
Thanks! I already jump a lot because I jump in every game all the time, but I probably need to be more aware with my horizontal movement. I also get so carried away with everything else (incessant jumping) that I completely forget to use my shield most of the time. I sometimes seem to not pull off smash attacks, but I think this might be a problem with me being too gentle on the circle pad and it not registering. I'd love to practice with you! My wifi is down at the moment but that should be amended today or tomorrow anyway - friend code is 1177 - 7809- 9087 -
It was actually 4player that got me onto Idle Thumbs (a few years back, when Brad mentioned the whole "Congrats Nick" thing). I still listen to them but only when I'm really itching for another podcast and I'm up to date with the other ones I listen to. I still enjoy Nick and Nolan's discussion a lot but I agree that Brad has gotten a little more annoying as time has gone on. I think he's just a bit too cynical and disgruntled about everything and it often means his discussion goes nowhere. I did enjoy his weekly updates on The Quest recently though. I wish Cocktail Time was still uploaded on itunes, I really dig Joseph a lot.

Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)
Treasure Goblin replied to tegan's topic in Video Gaming
I picked this up the other day, and having not played a Smash Bros game since the N64 original (which I never played very much to begin with), I'm finding that I'm pretty bad at it. I'm really enjoying it a lot though, despite not really knowing what I'm doing at any given point in time. At the moment I'm just playing through the classic mode with each character trying to figure out who I like playing as before I even think of jumping into some multiplayer - but does anyone have some fancy tips and tricks (cue beats) for a new player?
