  1. Making Mr. Remo Uncomfortable

I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't care for the Drafthouse.
  2. Life

Maybe you need to smoke some weed and chill out, mannn.
  3. Photos of things

Decided to go out and snap photos today.
  4. Making Mr. Remo Uncomfortable

I used to work at the biggest comic shop in Austin a few years back. One day, I was stocking back issues when I heard this very familiar voice--a voice I'd heard on podcasts probably a hundred times at this point--so I look around and lock eyes on this lanky, bearded hipster-lookin' dude. "Excuse me, are you Nick Suttner?" I ask. He is. He and is girlfriend were in town for the At the Drive-In reunion show and had decided to check out the comic shop where I worked (many people visit from all over the country to see this store--we would often have people making their way back home from San Diego Comicon stop in because they'd been told they should see the store). We chatted for a couple minutes about some stuff and then he handed me his business card and told me to hit him up for cheap Sony-published games. I laughed and he said something like, "I'm serious. No one ever takes advantage of it." Nice guy, that Nick Suttner.
  5. Painting tabletop miniatures

This was marketed as Future Floor Polish here in the US for a long time. It now comes in this bottle: Be sure not to buy the floor wax in the white bottle, as it's not the same product. This isn't a wax, it's an acrylic-based sealer. I originally bought it for clear-coating scale models but I also have used it on my floors and it's great for that as well. It's very good for adding gloss finishes or filling imperfections in transparent pieces such as cockpits or windshields.
  6. The only thing to shy away from is Seagate and WD Green drives. Everything else and you're pretty much golden. Currently posting from a resuscitated laptop. I have had this old AMD single-core 2.2GHz Toshiba Satellite that's been sitting around for about five years now. In fact, when I built my desktop, I recycled this machine's Win7 key. Anyway, it had been fucked up for some time--some weird corruption of Windows. I could log in to Win7 but the desktop never appeared, just a black screen and my mouse cursor. CTRL+SHIFT+ESC would manage to open up task manager, but something was clearly damaged. Anyway, with the help of my manager, we got the system to perform a clean install of Win7 and when I got the sucker home, I did a clean install of Win10. I put in 8GB of RAM (up from 2GB) and will probably drop a Samsung SSD in the machine in a month or two. Should be perfect as a slightly-oversized netbook with a nice screen.
  7. It's been usurped by the 950, which again is a good card but nothing special. I honestly wouldn't buy a card with less than 4GB of VRAM these days, and I'm still leery of the GTX 970's VRAM partitioning. I went with the MSi R9 390 because it was a better price for equal performance with 8GB of VRAM.
  8. My two favorite Austin moments were when he: A. Let out a single, uncontrolled guffaw when Alex compared Sky Battles to a student N64 project; and B. When he very calmly yet forcefully stepped in to rep Invisible, Inc.
  9. The Big VR Thread

If the Vive is more expensive than the Rift, then it will stop being messaged as Valve's VR headset and become HTC's VR headset.
  10. The Big VR Thread

    Awesome white blank page, Palmer.
  11. The Big VR Thread

This is gonna be $500. Maybe $449. Maybe.
  12. Uh. SSD. Buy the biggest one you can afford.
  13. Disabled gaming -- recommendations please

This sounds like a good way to give your girlfriend's brother an ulcer.
  14. Do you have favorite game mount?

    Even more than Enguarde?
  15. Do you have favorite game mount?

Really love the feel of the caragors in Shadow of Mordor. And the music that loops while riding one? Just the best.
  16. Just Cause 3

Drivers are in disarray at the moment--my experience with Elite Dangerous right now makes me so frustrated that I have no idea what to do.
  17. Just Cause 3

Hmm. I've got an MSi 390 and I'm not experiencing the same issues. I know it's a widely reported AMD issue, but it sounded like the latest Crimson drivers fixed it. PC games are fucking crazy.
  18. Just Cause 3

Ninety-Three, what GPU are you using?
  19. The problem lies in the way their engine has been built and updated. To do what Jeff is asking for would mean Bethesda would have to take twice as long between games to develop an engine from scratch and staff up. They're a major studio, but they're like one sixth the size of any given Ubisoft production. The amount of shit is so incredibly complex that fixing any one item is liable to break hundreds of others. It's not like you can just fire up Unreal 4 and start building Skyrim. I still imagine that they bought id so they could get access to John Carmack's technical knowledge and fix their toolset, though obviously that didn't work out so well. But maybe there's still enough magic left within id to build a more efficient engine that can still handle the unpredictability and freeform nature of Bethesda games.
  20. My 390 is set up in a similar fashion, but I'm still using MSi Afterburner to spin up the fans way earlier and bring down the idle temps to something less insane. It also drops the temperature during game about 5-10° C.

  22. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

Ships yes, equipment? Not sure. Yep, looks like the Elite wiki has you covered. http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Beam_Laser So right before showering this morning, I got a notification saying there was a driver update. I got giddy--had AMD delivered a Chrismas miracle and released a new driver that fixed Elite? No, apparently it was them pushing live the current beta driver, which I've already got installed. I still cannot play this game and it's frustrating. I turned every setting down to low, and the performance was not one iota better.
  23. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Yeah, I keep wishing the final act hadn't been a suicide mission to blow shit up, just some insane jailbreak attempt. Perhaps have Finn trying to steal the Falcon only to be subdued (and then aided) by Han & Chewie.
  24. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

2, 3, & 7 are the most common numbers in the Star Wars universe. The Falcon is tractored to bay 327 on the Death Star. The trash compactor is unit number 3263827. The odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field are 3,720:1. The odds of surviving a night on Hoth? 725:1. The Falcon is granted permission to land on Bespin platform 327.
