The only safe place in the country is Stonhaven.

I played quite a bit of PS2 back when it came out on PC a few years ago. I spent alot of time as a Mosquito pilot; hunting down other pilots and doing strafing runs on enemy tanks was great fun. I have a pretty good PC but it ran like crap and the framerate jumped all over the place, so I might jump onto the PS4 version to see how it plays in a more stable form. Do you know if your purchases etc. carry over between versions?

Welcome! The easiest way to get gear from where you are is to level up either your Crucible (PVP) or Vanguard (Strikes) reputation to level 2. At that point you can spend Crucible/Vanguard marks to buy gear from certain vendors in the Tower. You can also get that rep to level 3 if you want to buy weapons. Additionally, there's a vendor called Xur who shows up at 9AM GMT on Friday and leaves the same time on Sunday. He sells exotic gear for strange coins, which you get from engrams and completing the Weekly Heroic. If you get the exotic he sells this coming weekend, and three pieces of Vanguard gear, that'll put you right up to level 32. At 32, you can do the highest level Weekly Heroic and the Weekly Nightfall. The Nightfall doesn't have matchmaking, so you'll need to find a group here or on destinylfg.net. You'll also be high enough level to do the first raid, which is still the most fun part of the game. If you want any content beyond that, you'll need to buy the DLC. The Dark Below has a couple of dull story missions and a new raid, and House of Wolves has a pretty good story campaign and an "arena" called the Prison of Elders which is good fun. You can start doing that at level 28. I've sent you an invite if you want to play sometime, I'm Wracketeer on PSN.

It definitely helps for late-night gaming with people in America, but for getting stuff done during the day it's really annoying. I've no idea how to fix it either, I can't seem to force myself to stay up later or wake up earlier.

For the past couple days I've been waking up at 5PM and haven't been able to get to sleep until about 9AM. Unemployed life is just great!
-
Oh, you're absolutely right. I forgot about those two.

Fatebringer definitely doesn't drop on normal. As a rule, primary weapons only drop from raids on hard mode. That guy was talking out his arse.

Fuck job hunting. I've applied for dozens of positions, but it's a competitive field and the best reply I've gotten is one automatic rejection. I guess I don't have a point to make, I'm just broke and unemployed and I hate it.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
Vasari replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
You used to have to use a separate tool to move Steam games to another drive, but now you can create a new directory for Steam games wherever you like. When you go to install a game it should let you create a new location. -
I did the exact same thing, although thankfully I was only five minutes in. I see a couple of people on twitter who've done the same thing, I hope that gets changed soon.

The non-linear storytelling in this is just mindblowing. I haven't found half the video clips yet but I've come across some major revelations. Mostly I've been trying to wrap my head around how this thing was designed. You only ever get the first five chronological clips from a keyword, so if you search for something non-specific then you can only see the very beginning of the interview. The whole script must've been written with some idea of where words show up so that you couldn't stumble onto a major plot twist from a keyword you heard in your first or second search. I'm really excited to get back in, I lost my momentum because I got hung up on a specific video clip that I'll put in spoilers. Seriously don't read this unless you've played more of the game than me!

I played that racing game that made Danielle sick! It was at Rezzed in London this year, I was really impressed by it. It's on early access and it has a demo! http://radial-g.com/ e: And this is off-topic, but I just looked at their blog and it turns out they took a picture of me playing with my phone while I was waiting in line for their game. That was a weird thing to stumble across!

To use Arkham Knight as an example, new console versions on amazon are £40, the PC version is £35.
-
This is what really gets me. £40 is alot of money to pay for an expansion. Destiny has always had a problem where its DLC is more expensive than other games and arguably doesn't have the content to justify it. I'm not boycotting anything, I'm getting the DLC because I do really want to play it, but I'm sitting here agonising over spending £40 while someone from Bungie proudly insists I'd pay £80 if I saw my character doing the macarena.

Oh awesome, that's a great resource. I've been having to search Reddit whenever I was rerolling a weapon to find the best perks. It's also a very good companion to this doc I found on reddit, which gives you the raw stats for weapons in the Crucible. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L7FV9l4hXo2tHD3XlFUp854XvJIwTKFIPvASLduPPS4/edit#gid=0 If you're using Reddit to find out about Crucible stuff, you should take a look at /r/CruciblePlaybook. That's where people get deep into the mechanics. Yeah, that eurogamer interview is awful. The DLC has always been an expensive proposition, especially in non-US regions where the prices are jacked way up. "You want it, you just don't know how much you want it yet" sounds like something you'd read in a Pick-Up Artist manual. Mostly it's disappointing because Bungie is normally pretty good about responding to the community, but Luke Smith comes across like a such a smug shithead in response to genuine concern.

On their E3 stream, Nintendo showed a bunch of old drawings on graph paper which were the original level designs for the first Mario game. I can't stop thinking about how cool it would be if they put all that stuff out in a nice big art book. Or imagine owning one of those original designs? I'm not a big Nintendo fan but I'm getting chills thinking about it. I just want to spend an evening flipping through all their documentation.

Me too! It's a wonderful game and I'm surprised it didn't get more attention. I think at one point it was billed as one episode of a larger series, and that made people do the whole "Oh gee I guess I'll wait until they're all out" thing. I have no idea if any more are being made but it feels like a complete game as it is. I'm also glad that people are getting The Talos Principle. It was released so late last year that it slipped through the net for alot of people. It's one of the few games I'd have no reservations comparing to Portal in terms of puzzle design and intrigue.

I think I felt the same way. The characters and conversations were fun, but walking back and forth on that plane felt like pixel hunting to find the right object that'd move things forward. The whole section where you had to find the three clues was so tedious because it was really obvious what had happened, you just needed to collect 10 different objects and play some minigames to have the character figure it out. I stopped right at the end of that chapter and I don't think I'll be going back unless someone convinces me its worth it.

I think I declined a friend request from someone here. People walking around in the Tower send friend requests so I usually deny them all, if you're from here and you want to play then please leave me a message so I know who you are!

Idle Thumbs 215: Flirtation & Procreation
Vasari replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I'm going to put on my Fallout Lore Cap here. The procreation in vaults is something that's only come up once (to my knowledge) in Fallout. And I guess it's not technically a vault, it's the Brotherhood of Steel bunker in New Vegas. One of the companions you can meet, Veronica, is a Brotherhood member in a relationship with another woman. She explains at one point that their relationship was frowned upon by the rest of the Brotherhood because they don't take on new members from the outside, so procreation was one of the duties that everyone was expected to take part in. As for the big list of vaults and their experiments, I think that was all Fallout 3 marketing material. The idea that vaults were "social experiments" was one of the controversial ideas in Fallout 2, so it wouldn't have been mentioned before late in that game. -
It's hard to describe why it's so good, because it doesn't have a big hook or twist to it, it just has really good writing. It's point-and-click but with barely any puzzle solving. The focus is purely on the narrative, and the choices you make aren't solving big problems or determining who lives or dies, they're about building up the characters' histories and exploring who they were. For example, the first choice you make is someone asks who your dog's name, and your options are "His name is Homer", "Her name is Blue", or "I don't know, it's just some dog". That obviously doesn't have any big narrative consequences but it makes the story feel alot more personal. In general the tone of the game is just so fascinating and surreal in a low-key way. If you want to try it out in advance, there are actually a handful of intermission episodes they've released for free. They're all side stories that tie into the locations in the main game in some way, so I wouldn't really consider them spoilers since they're meant to be played between episodes.
