  1. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

They're all posted to Double Fine's youtube: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQMxCuhm25CUS9MZKjZ2ihQ You could probably check Tim Schafer's and 2Player Prod's twitters for when Day 1 comes out (it hasn't yet).
  2. Fresh Indie Game Compendium Extraordinaire

That gif is fascinating. I would watch a livestream of high level Threes play, because I suck at it.
  3. The Last of Us

Okay, I think you're officially in the part of the game where the majority of people say the game "starts getting good" - just so you have that as a baseline. If you're not liking this part maybe the game isn't for you. I know what you're saying about just wanting to push through to the next story beat, but to me the best part about The Last Of Us was that it didn't something only video games can do - put you in the world for 20-30 hours with the two characters and let you form your own attachment to them through the dialog, exploration downtime, small conversations, etc. Again, I really like the melee combat. It's not overly complicated, but you definitely need to know your limitations. When taking out infected it's definitely a good idea to stealth kill as many as possible, because fighting more than one at a time with melee will get you killed. Having a shotgun/close range heavy weapon will let you one shot anything running close to you. On normal I thought the infected were actually pretty simple to kill because of the abundance of ammo and their general tactic of running straight at you.
  4. The Last of Us

The beginning of the game is very straight forward and railroady. After that it opens up considerably. If what you're not enjoying about the game is that you're spending too much time roaming the environments and looking for gear, you will probably not like playing the game. Personally, I loved that aspect of it (felt very much like what you would need to do to survive in the apocalypse), and the random conversations that occur with Ellie, but if you're not liking it that part is only going to get "worse" for you. The combat isn't going to change much either, apart from giving you more options weapons-wise the further you get into it. Again, personally I really liked it. It's funny you really liked Uncharted but don't like The Last Of Us. I hate Uncharted, the way it plays, the difficulty, everything. I played Uncharted 3 on easy just so I could enjoy the breezy nature of it more, and still died a lot. I ended up beating The Last Of Us on Survivor, and love everything about the way it plays. The fun thing about the stealth (to me), is that you can stealth as long as possible, and then if your cover is blown you can shoot your way out, or run and hide, or whatever. I think the story is absolutely worth watching, but if you're really not digging it the game is only going to change so much. How far into it are you guys?
  5. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

It bums me out you're not going to be in any more of the DFA doc. Seriously. :-(
  6. The Last of Us - Left Behind

I liked it as well, especially the more I think about it. I had my doubts about their ability to tell a whole new story and make me care about it the way I did the main game, but they pulled it off. Agreed about making the infected/humans fight each other, that was really cool and not really tutorialized or anything. They just leave you some bricks and enemies around and make you feel really smart for making them kill each other. I also think, character-wise, it's a nice combo between Ellie at the beginning of the game and Ellie at the end.
  7. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I don't recall that being a notoriously difficult puzzle. I think you're overcomplicating it.
  8. Spelunky!

Yeah, I listen to podcats too, I don't even listen to the spelunky audio when I play. I've missed the new eye blink because of that, but I think it'll just be something new to get used to.
  9. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Yeah, I always liked one and three a bunch. Two I thought was too hard, but I haven't played it in year's so maybe that's changed. It has a bit of a different tone too that weirds me out. But I know a lot of people like that one the best.
  10. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

It is blasphemous to say that Curse is my favorite Monkey Island game? I think the puzzles and environments are top notch, and the voice acting and writing is great. Reading you going through it really makes me want to go back and play it again.
  11. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

Gotta admit that I'm a little disappointed in the games they picked. Maybe I'll eat my words, but none of them seem like they'll be great two week products.
  12. I listen to a lot of Giant Bomb stuff, and they revere that game there, which really played into my overly high expectations for the game. I'm not really a huge fan of GTA's sense of humor (it's so obvious it's barely satirical), and I really disliked everything story-wise in Far Cry 3, which is the only one I've played. I can see the "Saints Row is so smart about how dumb it is" argument, but for me it just never worked. I don't know why I think it is so unfunny, and yet Hot Rod is one of my favorite comedic movies ever. I think maybe there is an element of it trying to hard to be wacky. Or something.
  13. Wow, the description of Jazzpunk being "a goofy car horn that makes a funny noise when you press a button" just totally hit me like a thunderbolt as to why that game isn't not clicking with me. Fuck that's good. And then the idea that a realistic world makes random physical humor much funnier than a constructed goofiness like Saints Row ... man. Why did I only start listening to this podcast a few weeks ago!
  14. Spelunky!

yeah, great skin work, and tonights spelunky daily was amazing, like secretasainman said. double fine people are DOUBLE FUN! or something
  15. JazzPunk - A Retro Spyberpunk Comedy Adventure

Yeah, for me its falling under the "random randomness for the sake of random" doesn't really make me laugh. I'm only a few levels in, so maybe it'll pick up. It's okay so far, I guess.
  16. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

There were way too many good ideas. It was incredibly hard to pick 3. I chose: Breach, Mega Rad Karate Troopers, Eras of Adventure Things I wanted to choose: Project Xing, Reentry, What Could Go Wrong There were a couple others that sounded really good, but the gameplay ideas seemed a bit too vague so I decided not to vote for them.
  17. The Official Video Game Music Corner

At this forum you just post a link and it seems like everything is done for you. Pretty spiffy forums!
  18. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I quit playing a lot of games, not out of hatred for them, but just because I get all I need to get out of them and then eventually abandon them. I do this with open world games a ton, where I get really close to the end, decide I'm going to finish up some sidequests, then lose all interest and just stop.
  19. JazzPunk - A Retro Spyberpunk Comedy Adventure

I've decided to just buy this without looking at what it is at all to maintain surprises and jokes. I know it's an adventure game, thought it was point and click but now I'm not sure. It'll be fun to boot it up tonight and find out!
  20. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Just started listening to Django Django, I think they're really awesome. I love the whole album, but this song is really catchy.
  21. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I backed Broken Age, was considering the documentary already worth my donation, and then I played the game! So awesome, really loved everything about it. I fell behind on the documentary episodes, which I consider fortunate, because the last 4 or so are pretty spoilery with locations and characters that were fun to discover for the first time in the game (but is awesome for seeing how the game is made). Now I'm conflicted, because the doc is SO GOOD, but I know I should stop watching episodes again so it doesn't spoil too much of Act 2.
  22. New people: Read this, say hi.

I'm originally from Michigan, now live in California. I work at a movie trailer company as an assistant editor. Pretty new to the Idle Thumbs podcast/site/thing, but long time lover of adventure games, and then Double Fine and Telltale stuff, so I was immediately hooked! Also pretty obsessed with Chris's daily Spelunky runs (my in to the podcast). Edit: Hello, by the way.
  23. The Wolf Among Us

I love this series. The feel and atmosphere of it is great, and I didn't think it was possible that I could like a main character as much as Lee, but they've done it with Bigby. Like other people here have said, the options to say nothing are great and fit the character so well. I also liked the [smoke] option early in episode 2. I really want to start a replay of the first two episodes and make different choices, but I'm worried I'll have save issues like I did with TWD and it will overwrite my concurrent saves with one master save!
