  1. BioShock Infinite

Here's my Bioshock opinion: I thought the first game had a neat story that had very unengaging gameplay that failed to live up to the hype around it at the time (that there was going to be this living, breathing world that you could wander around in, set up traps for enemies, watch Big Daddies go about their work, that there would be any reason to use weapons and powers other than shock and wrench). Then I played Bioshock Infinite 5 (?) years later, and seem to be on the other end of the hate/hype. Fun combat with lots of variety, fun to zip around on rails, interesting interactions between the two main characters, and a story that puts the whole series into a very interesting light. Did I change in this time? Is it just a matter of hype and perspective? Weird that so many people get so worked up over this game, and yet hail Bioshock 1 as this masterpiece.

I really liked Dead Space, and I know this is a hotly debated topic, but I think Dead Space 2 improved on it in basically in every way. So definitely give that a play if you're up for more of that style of game (maybe slightly more actiony the second time).
  3. The laughing scene in FFX is supposed to be awful because Tidus is forcing himself to laugh to forget the bad times (I think?). Then he starts laughing more genuinely. I think that scene is awful, but the "HAW HAW HAW" part that everyone makes fun of is totally that.
  4. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

That's a fun concept. And the cutscenes look really well directed, in that the single takes don't look laborious - it looks natural that the take just keeps going.
  5. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I have a dumb and very unserious question, but from watching the Giant Bomb quicklook and the end cutscene (gross), it looks like everything is done in one "shot," including the gameplay, which the cutscenes transition seamlessly into. Is this the case? That's kind of a cool idea - the whole came being one continuous shot from beginning to end, with your gameplay being the middle section.
  6. This is what kills me about Spring Breakers. If you think it is a badly made, badly acted piece of shit, you can't argue that because people are like "it's SUPPOSED to be that way! You just didn't get it, maaan!" I like that aspect of Pikmin, though. Little buggers don't know any better. People say this a lot of Spec Ops. That it is boring to play because it is satirizing military shooters. I don't really buy that one exactly.
  7. Diablo III

Adventure mode is great, it basically gives grind to run things for loot a direction. Lots of fun. I really liked the new act too, I think it was the most interesting visually and gameplay wise of all of D3.
  8. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I do agree the one Manny/Mercedes conversation you get in year one doesn't give you a ton to go on, but Manny needs something to chase after, doesn't he? I mean emotionally, not just for the game to progress.
  9. Diablo III

I've been playing the shit out of Diablo 3, so pumped for Reaper of Souls. I even started a hardcore character! *gasp*
  10. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Don't read to much into what I said, I just have that line stuck in my head because I spent so long trying to solve that puzzle.

I've beaten Diablo 3 about 5 or 6 times since patch 2.0 came out. Hadn't played it since its launch, when I really enjoyed it, and beat about 1.5 times. Wow, is it still fun. Looking at my old witch doctor, I can see were the loot issues where that I never really noticed. My WD had a ring equipped that gave intelligence, strength, and dexterity. I'm sure that is the best ring I could find at the time, but now everything I'm finding is relevant to my character - for the most part. Loot 2.0 doesn't feel cheap. Even when you're finding all this great equipment, it's a struggle to be like "is the flat damage increase worth losing the % dmg to a specific skill I'm liking? Should I switch my entire playstyle to account for this new legendary I found? It's a ton of fun, especially with friends. I'm really pumped for Reaper of Souls and the Crusader class. When is the last time a company completely rolled back and changed huge design decisions in a game 2 years after its release? So crazy and cool.

JUST GIVE ME A SECOND TO BALANCE THESE DOGGIES
  13. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Yeah... Petrified Forest isn't too great. Hang in there, I would say there is only one other puzzle in the game that is just completely awful. Did you try shaking any of your balloons at the pigeons? If you get the Robert Frost one, Manny says one of my favorite lines.
  14. I'm so glad Steve brought up Paxton Fettel's death scene in FEAR, and we heard a bit about how it came to be. That is one of my favorite scenes in a game ever. It's so sublte and so satisfying - when does any game, or movie even, come down to one simple bullet eliminating the main bad guy? So cool.
  15. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I don't think the game ever highlights everything, however one button (period I know on the numpad, and probably tab too), makes Manny swivel between objects he is near to. Which kind of works like a highlight all button. Is that what you mean?
  16. Poperatzo, you've done it again, you mad genius.
  17. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

The card thing they show the message tube demon using a card with punches in it to stop the flow.. It's kind of hard to see though. And finally I can post my favorite video game quote! "Bound only by the paper-thin wrapper of mortality, a soul here lies, struggling to be free. And so it shall, thanks to a bowl of bad gazpacho, and a man named Calavera." "Nice bathrobe!"

Really enjoyed reading you playing through Curse, glad you liked it so much. Enjoy Grim Fandango, I certainly did. Don't want to set your expectations too high so I'll leave it at that. I believe ResidualVM is the best way to run Grim. I've had audio stuttering issues with it, but they may have fixed that. I think the best way to play it is to run it full screen and to force your monitor into 4:3 using your video card.
  19. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

I guess he's never that harsh, but he never pretends to overly enjoy something if he's not. He definitely seemed to have the highest impression of Steed.
  20. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

And he REALLY didn't seem into it at some points. Tim is pretty brutally honest when he plays games, it seems. I love it.
