What about just one gun...in the entire game? But its a really cool gun!
  2. Splatoon is Ink-redible

When this happens I try to remind myself "Hey, its a Nintendo game! These other players could just be young kids trying their best" but sometimes this doesn't happen and I end up cursing my teammates names under my breath. Goddammit Timmy! Timmy sucks.
  3. Splatoon is Ink-redible

I like that even though the attacks of the final boss are pretty repetitive the platforms and obstacles the player has to over come are really varied. On paper a 30 minute fight with a boss who repeats the sames moves sounds tedious, but its actually AMAZING! Some of my favorite music as well, actually that boss is just badass all around!

Yeah, its a shame to hear how poor the Amiibo stuff is. I really enjoyed the single-player. It repeated the same level concepts a few too many times but I thought the boss levels more than made up for that, and were vastly better than the bosses in 3D world, especially the last one. I would gladly play more of it, but the Amiibo changes don't seem to be what I want.
  5. Return of the Steam Box!

Thanks, I managed to completely miss all the vital information I wanted on the product page! D'oh!

The game to game controller layouts seem pretty neat. Does anyone know if Valve have talked about the battery? It doesn't seem to be removable and they haven't said upfront what kind of battery life is to be expected.

Super Mario 3D World Was Mario always weird? Because this game is weird. I went through heaven, through hell...and ended in Bowser's weird theme park?! Weird. But really good with a Pro Controller, not so much with the Wii U gamepad.
  8. Cities: Skylines

It would be nice if there was a was a way to plan out roads before building them. I think Prison Architect had a similar ability with blueprints. Anyone know of a mod to this effect?
  9. This will be my first "souls" game so I'm kind of glad for that three day wait, a chance to realize what I am getting into (or run away scared and cancel my pre-order).
  10. Cities: Skylines

Not sure if this is what you mean but the wiki has some details about specializing industry plots on natural resources: http://www.skylineswiki.com/Natural_resources

What do people typically do with their initial low density settlement? I have a problem that whenever I unlock the high density stuff I kind of seize up and don't want to do anything more to my city because my little town suddenly feels shitty and redundant in comparison. I have now built 3 cities to the point of unlocking high density but cant bring myself to go back to them.
  12. PL4YST4TION 4

I have been really loving Olli Olli 2. Have finished but not 5-stared all the normal levels but cant quite bring myself to try out the hard mode. Does anyone know if there is a colourblind mode or maybe character skinning options? The first four enviroments were fine but I found the last to be really difficult to pick out the character from the background.
  13. Looking super awesome. I really want to learn some more about the main character's visual design. I wonder if the team have a developed image of the character's appearance in sketches, concept art internally. They talked about the 1st person camera being cheap, in terms of not having to fully animate the character, but I'm curious about releasing an image of the character (like Half-Life or Dishonoured box art) and how that would affect the player's mental image of the character going in. Also: chunky fingers. I like the chunky fingers.
  14. Everything that has happened over the past fortnight regarding social justice warriors and journalistic integrity has reminded me at how terrible Twitter (and other social avenues) is at actually stringing together a narrative of what the heck is going on. One person @replies another and everyone loses their shit over it, but I completely miss it because I don't follow the right people. Stephen Totilo defends his writer but does it though a series of 7 tweets, a couple of which I accidentally read in reverse order because it feels natural to read down even though Twitter works the other way. Reddit says this. 4Chan says that. Someone makes a fake Feminist Frequency Youtube video and account that goes around on the same day as the real one. Phil Fish is back publicly again, but then he's not again suddenly... At some point (and I'm sure this attitude isn't helping) I just have to give up, the internet is such a confusing mess at times (all times really). I just can't be bothered piecing it all together like a detective.

  16. Idle Innovation/Speculation/Masturbation

Yeah, the point I was failing to make is that games like Bioshock and Last of Us appear to be the current limit of leeway allowed to developers in high cost development. I am totally aware of the sorts of games that appear on sites like freeindiegam.es (which is not currently supported by Terry Cavanagh, which is a shame), I was just trying to say that it seems difficult for comparable levels of innovation to exist in big studio development because of the increasing cost of the gamble.
  17. Idle Innovation/Speculation/Masturbation

The thing that I find disappointing, though not unexpected, is the continuation of last gen franchises to the new consoles. At the start of last generation developers seemed to be open to big gambles on new franchises (uncharted, mass effect, gears etc.). But look at the narrative over the past 5 years: AAA gets more expensive, mid-tier developers close their doors for being mildly-innovative yet unsuccessful. And the result is...well: more Uncharted, Mass Effect, and Gears of War for the new gen. Even new titles like The Order and Watch Dogs seem to have spawned from the same design principals of 5 years ago. So yeah, I think I'm expecting that big budget games are gonna kind of suck for a little bit now. Sure there will be outliers that do something different akin to The Last of Us or Bioshock or LittleBigPlanet but I think the norm will be a continuation of the same with small, currently unappealing to me advances a la smartphone integration. I think the indie push from Sony is telling as well. Their big first party games are taking longer and longer to make, indie fills in the gaps for the wait for the next big title.
  18. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Don't think it'll happen but I really want batman to feel exposed again like he did in the first game. The three scarecrow sections genuinely freaked me out at the time and made me feel like I part of the "madhouse". The more empowered batman in Arkham City, whilst fun to play, strayed too close to typical superhero "I'm a gonna beat you up dark knight styley", emphasised the least interesting parts of the character.
  19. Titanfall

I'm not a big fan of the shotgun. With this being my first PC FPS in a long time I find my aim is really poor with mouse/key, so I'm hopeless with the shotgun. My jaw sometimes hits the floor when I see the speed of people on kill cams. I was once killed by a guy who threw an explosive pack at me and shot it in mid air or something, I barely got a shot off. My last five'ish matches were much better though, finding that not always sprinting and taking some time to look at the mini-map is helping. I couldn't figure out why I was dying so many times early on before I realised I was using parkour too much, leaving myself open a lot. And naturally trying to hit targets when you are zipping around is much harder than when standing.

Okay, first post in this thread so here goes, Gone Home: This was a bit of an odd one for me. I had heard lots about it post-release and as people spoke more about the game I picked up more details about it that I feel impacted on my enjoyment. My main problem with the game though was the design of the house, it never felt quite real to me. Part of this is due to the bluntness with which we control games, mouse/key and controllers don’t come anywhere near the fidelity of movement a human can manage. This resulted in the environments, but particularly the objects, feeling overly-large and cumbersome. The floorplan of the house also felt like none I have ever stepped in: odd diagonal corridors, over use of adjacent rooms (i.e. rooms that are only accessible through another room and are not directly connected to a corridor), and little overlap between different floors’ floorplan. These all really took me out of the experience. In spite of all this I was incredibly engrossed in the story which was delivered with a great acuteness. The combination of listening to a person speak whilst walking around their room, viewing their stuff increased my connection to the character. It felt like those great moments in real life when you are rifling through a chest or suitcase full of photographs and letters from a past relative. It makes that person feel all the more real whilst creating an eeriness, a sense of trespassing, which Gone Home replicates to a T.
  22. Amateur Game Making Night

Have dabbled in XNA and UDK in the past but haven't made anything proper for ages, need a little kick-start so it would be pretty cool to see what others are up to, need to give Unity a shot at some point as well. Hopefully it could keep me coming back to the forums also!
  23. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hi all, Been listening to thumbs for about 6 months now and figured I'd finally sign up for the forums. I don't usually chat on forums but this place seems pretty cool and inviting, should be fun. Bye.
