The main quest's opening in Morrowind is really low key in comparison to later. In both Obliv and Skyrim you get gigantic walls of flame within 10-20 minutes of starting the game. Morrowind has you fill out some forms, get transportation to another city, find a guy there. You can also, instead of doing side content, just talk to him again and he'll send you off to do a favour for a guy in town. The favour is finding a tiny bronze tinted box in a gigantic dwemer ruin filled with bronze tinted stuff. It's in the first room, the ruins themselves stretch out many floors below. Then more talking again. No end of the world is starting, no flames.

Project Eternity, Obsidian's Isometric Fantasy RPG
Jutranjo replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
I think the main issue with the shades and shadows was 3 and 4 party members. With 5 it was doable, with 6 it's not much of a problem. Main problem is them doubling their number with some summon. I tried using torches which was ok but still not enough (they do fire damage which the shades have lower damage reduction against and _I think_ also don't target Deflection so they can be hit). Crazy wizard in the castle basement went fine, they've added fire immunity to the Blights (the elemental boulder things that float) as well as one of the weapon damage types (pierce or slash, I forgot). That'll be fun when they start appearing in bigger groups. After getting 6 I did most of the sidequests in the areas to the west of Caed Nua, then went to Raedric's Hold. Attacked head on, killed every single guard and sellsword, looted everything. The killing gives no exp , they even pointed it out in some interview how stealthing versus killing everything awards the same exp reward. It does but I did the dumb thing of picking up everything and putting it in the stash, then sold fifty items, including many plate mails for 200 cp. I already have 13k money. :\- 214 replies

Nah, Morrowind has better pacing with your one contact turning out to be your new employer and telling you to get a cover story by joining some guilds or getting some minor renown/notoriety. And then the 10 hours of running around and politic-ing it up as your end game.

That's not cool, can't you be more pedantic?

Misery was also on Team Secret for a few weeks before they got RTZ and Zai. -
The idle thumbs mumble server is still working, it's never dissapointed so far. Link/instructions are in the sticky on this forum or the main one, also a sticky for slack. If more people than just me and wooben show up on slack I'll make a separate channel.

Or slack group!

I got it running, who can play this weekend and what timezones do you live in? I'm fine with most hours on any day, only saturday evening I might be busy. If it's USA, EU and Australia, it'll be morning hours for me I guess?

Project Eternity, Obsidian's Isometric Fantasy RPG

Nah I've only just gotten to Caed Nua, the castle. The temple basement/dungeon had maybe 2 or 3 rooms of many shades, if it was one in a hallway by itself it was fine. The priest's 2nd level fire spell helped and I lucked out at rolls for combat damage. Maybe the 20% of grazes converted to hits talent respec for the fighter helped a bit. I'll post/edit how Caed Nua goes but with 5 I'm not expecting it to remain as hard as it is. Hard actually makes the game hard D:- 214 replies

On hard with a cipher and the two party members you find in Gilded Vale I couldn't get to the end of the temple dungeon. I had to go pick up Durance and come back and even then I had to reload lots. How the hell do you fight the shades and shadows? They're immune to paralyze, all their defence scores are high. I probably fucked up with picking the mage spells on the level up I like how you can respec/retrain all your characters at all inns for not a lot of money. Never tried making a fighter, turns out there's some cool passive abilites. There's a new "multiclass" talent you can take that gives you the rogue's damage bonus when attacking from stealth etc.- 214 replies

In the game that invented rocket jumping you're not sure it's intended to use mouselook.

About the style of Quake, I remember reading or watching some video on YT that they wanted to do an fantasy game at first but then they ran out of time/resources/will to do it and just reused most of the already made assets to make a scifi game. Or vice versa (probably not). I wonder where Hexen fits into this.

What's the "Story Mode", just an easier easy difficulty setting? Obsidian put up a few short stories set in the POE setting, one of them is about Eder http://eternity.obsidian.net/media/stories- 214 replies

I had trouble finding VODs since the twitch channel doesn't even have all the broadcasts up, this channel seems to have all the games uploaded, no idea if it's official. It's all spoiled, no fake game 3 uploads, if you care about that https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6vQmbHIu4Ksd4U0EIAVbrg/videos

I think the expansion's story takes place before the game's main story ends, similar to BG1/Tales of the Sword Coast. I'm trying a new playthrough, maybe a cipher with not max strength isn't that bad anymore? Difficulty is set to hard, not POTD. Is anyone here crazy enough to try POTD?- 214 replies

2d Dukes were great, I played the shareware episode 1 to death. Manhattan Project was ok, it had a jetpack. 2D Duke 1 had those climbing claws, some jump boots and 2 more things? The clank clankclank of climbing on ceilings was a great sound effect.

I didn't bother patching the game as the patches came out on GoG (they remove them for some dumb reason) so I had to redownload the game and do a fresh install. I kept getting a Runtime Error when I tried starting it. The problem was that I once installed GoG Galaxy to try it out and it left a folder in the ProgramData folder. Pillars's runtime error was somehow related to that folder but renaming/removing the folder at C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy fixed it.- 214 replies

I don't know about german being one of the more difficult european languages to learn, you got hungarian, finish, any slavic language, serbian will have you maybe learning a different alphabet. German feels more "cleaned up" than english to me. There's only so many irregular verbs to learn, maybe less than english? Learning the genders of words might seem weird if you're coming from english being your first language.

My B.net defaulted to Iccup instead of Europe(Northerend). Did you try switching servers yet? Maybe it's the firewall blocking it as well. Also maybe it's the patch, did you try downloading it manually and installing it, avoiding battle.net? Here's windows and mac patches, found them here https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/classic-game-patches http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/war3x/patches/pc/War3TFT_126a_English.exe http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/war3x/patches/Mac/War3TFT_1xx-126a_English.zip

Did you connect to battle.net once installed so it patched it to the newest version? I ask because it adds WIDESCREEN SUPPORT! WOOO
