[Dev Log] Currently Unnamed Game About the Refugee Crisis
Jutranjo replied to TopFish's topic in Wizard Jam 2 Archive
The glass globe does really give it an evening news feel. Also it looks really neat. -
I think both SC2 and DOTA2 have Warcraft 3 melee custom maps, SC2 may already have a playable one. The issue that we had was that we couldn't host a game due to port issues. Instead of changing things on routers we tried switching the port in the options menu but it didn't help. Gotta figure it out first.

The End of an RTS era? Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void
Jutranjo replied to Adam Beckett's topic in Strategy Game Discussion
I'm pretty sure Rise Of Nations had "drag a line with mouse to position units in a line or several lines". It might have had other similar features. -

Idle Thumbs 238: From Earth to Pluto
Jutranjo replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
The Quake and UT demos made really sure that nearly everyone who played on a PC at the time played them. Every magazine demo disc had them. Even vs bots it was plenty fun. -
I don't think the forums even support locking threads. Threads are either gigantic mega threads or not there.

It's not exactly the same as with GoG but doesn't Stardock also publish Offworld Trading Company, designed by a show host on these very forums?

Isn't the entire point of a website selling games to advertise? Or is the problem that they aren't doing exclusively indie bundles with no DRM anymore?

Episode 331: Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void
Jutranjo replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Three Moves Ahead Episodes
If you aren't knowledgeable about Starcraft it won't be interesting. Without knowing more your sentence literally describes any and all games of Starcraft which just sounds boring. Wow the player with the bigger army won again. Oh he's snowballing from getting more bases which he got because he had more army. Ok, in comparison DOTA and co are just a mish mash of stuff happening in comparison. If you aren't very deep into SC2 but know the units the games will still start to repeat themselves since you can't see all the finnesse. Meanwhile DOTA has drafting where you can see a team's general plan for a game or be told of it by the commentators. -
Ok last weekend didn't work out BUT I have high hopes for this one. Who can do the linked time for I'm guessing 2-3 hours? http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=6+am+CET+28th+november http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=9+PM+PST+27th+november

How can anyone sympathise with a marketing department of a giant company?

Idle Thumbs 236: Twenty-Year-Old Weird House
Jutranjo replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
It might have been in the Designer Notes episode of him but probably also elsewhere, most interviews with him tend to repeat the same question/anecdotes. -
I've already reported his post.

There's a topic or two every few months with a newly registered account sharing a kickstarter or similar, Tobacco(or someone) removes those.

Sorry, I typed that more of as a joke, not seriously. There's not many black people in my country, I've seen less than ten in five years of living in the capital. People on the street usually stare so I try not to do that but I just end up desperately looking away. I'm probably the least opinionated in a way that is different from me/well behaved person in this thread of americans.

I don't think you can get away with calling people in Europe african americans.

Yes, more megathreads please!

When is the trading over? -
I'm gonna repost my response because I'm grinding axes. I don't see why they want to present LOL as a game that's initially attractive to people who would not enjoy the endless complexity that the gameplay entails when they later always turn into that? Why sell the game on a false premise.
-
Nah, that's me. I get the need to have a business model where you sell heroes/lords for the company. I don't get why people say it's so good for new players since they aren't overwhelmed. Ok, you aren't overwhelmed the first few times you play the game solo. What if you don't like any of the free heroes on offer or the one the guide/guides recommend you buy? What if a patch fucks over your 5 unlocked heroes? Ok, patches obviously won't fuck over the starter/cheaper heroes so now your balance changes don't dare touch those too much.

I agree with twig, why even have all of them if you only need/want a small fraction?

I got a bunch of stuff I want to post but here's one interesting (more interesting at least) take on elemental damage in Path of Exile (Diablo 2.5). You have 3 elements, fire, ice and lightning. Some enemies are rarely resistant to one, usually all of them, but resists cap out at 75% and you kill stuff so fast anyway. Lightning spells usually have an absurdly big damage range in comparison to the other two, 20 to 500 damage instead of 240 to 270. The interesting thing is that when you deal enough damage of a certain type to an enemy (based on what % of their total HP you just dealt in X damage type), they'll get a different status effect. Fire damage puts an ignite on them that will continue to do damage as they burn, lightning damage will shock them, causing them to take 50% more damage from everything while they're shocked and frost damage always chills (slows movement and attack speed) and can also freeze (the enemy cannot do anything except stand there frozen). You can get items and talents that reduce how much damage you need to do for that to occur as well as the duration, make shocks/ignites stack, make your status effects proliferate so you can ignite one zombie to make the whole room burn or freeze one thing to freeze the whole screen. There's also weird effects like
