  1. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Super Mario 3D World is super good. Friendo and I sat down and got through the first 2.5 worlds last Saturday, I went back and got some stars yesterday. This guy is too cute for me to handle.

  4. Super Personal Games?

I don't think you would suggest these are mutually exclusive right? I think it's obvious how narrative and personality/self-expression coexist, your twine being an example. The idea of mechanics expressing something is a much rarer treat, but if you've played Papo & Yo, that game serves as an amazing expression of something personal through its mechanics.
  5. Post your face!

That's me on the left there. That shirt actually got me a free beer that night. This isn't me, but apparently I don't have a good photo of me wearing that shirt. $24 dollar at urban outfitters. Wal-mart is on that undercutting game.
  6. Plug your shit

Our new game got officially released today. We've spent the last 8 months or so working on it, which as insignificant as it may sound, is actually the longest I've worked on any one project. Of course it's free, so give it a try iOS: http://bit.ly/SBRiOS Android: http://bit.ly/SBRGP
  7. Unity Questions Thread

What do you guys use for UI? Specifically text I need a better solution for.
  8. Have any of the Thumbs been down to the Musee Mecanique? The site mostly shows off their antique stuff but they have a good collection of like 80s, 90s, and 00s era arcade machines too. That's the only place I've ever got to play the sweet vector graphics Star Wars arcade.

The Hostess with the Ghostess, you host a haunted dinner part. Ghost Recon: Ghoul edition
  10. Non-video games

Hey Merus, thanks again for the input on the murder mystery stuff. Last weekend I played Twilight Struggle, the Cold War simulating board game, and apparently the best board game ever. The game is genuinely really good. My friend and I stumbled a little bit at the start given it was our first time playing but we got the hang of things pretty quick. The game does a tonne of cool things to represent history and geo-politics through its mechanics. In the early/mid game the only way for the USSR to have any influence in Central and South America is to have Fidel Castro installed as a dictator in Cuba and spread influence from there. You're also balancing the military operations you can (and have to) take against the current defcon number. It seems like an intimidating game, but the amount of actions you can take is actually a pretty small vocabulary. Game definitely gets a

  12. Amateur Game Making Night

Hey, this game is totally cool. My feedback is pretty simple. I think it would be cool if I could purchase towers faster at the start. Also I felt like I got victory out of nowhere, a better way to see the status of the tug of war would be cool. I really like the feeling of tower defense in an open 3D space.
  13. Game Jams

Yeah Dino, I need to figure out what I can do to get a nice UI system set up for my stuff. I did another one!
  14. If you were a platinum Nintendo Club member last you probably got sent 4 codes for early access to the demo. My coworker was one of these people, and I got a code, and this game is pretty cool. One of the items is a Galaga bug/spaceship thing and that's cool.
  15. Intoxicated:

Hey, I like beer. Are any of you fine people using Untappd, the beer social network? I appreciate that "beer social network" is a repugnant combination of words, but the website has valid use as a tool for tracking the beers you have consumed. The site is based around the idea of a "check-in" to a beer you're drinking, and if it floats your boat, where you are drinking it. If you want to be my friend, here is profile. Act now and you can be my 4th! Yay beer.
  16. I'm not falling for that one!
  17. Life

Dave is a pretty common name.
  18. Feminism

A radio show on CBC (think Canadian NPR) ran a story on women in the games industry (click the listen button). It features an interview with the executive director of IGDA. I was genuinely surprised when this show decided to do a story about the games industry, the CBC is not known to be tech savvy. It's a pretty broad look at the issue but I'm happy it exists.
  19. Game Jams

    I did it!
  20. Chris and Jake get interviewed by PC Gamer.
  21. Non-video games

The story goes like this; my friend moves into a new house with a real old timey living room. Another friends suggests this makes it the perfect place for a murder mystery night. I have participated in one murder mystery before, it was super shitty. Just bad community theatre with an impossible to get solution. Ideally I want a game, that is played over a few hours, where role play can be encouraged but not fully required, and in general promises to be a good game. I'm starting at zero, I have no idea where to begin and was looking for any resource to get me started.
  22. Wizaaaaaards!!

I didn't want to cast my "flash" spell because the bar was dark, and that was a particularly dark corner.
  23. Wizaaaaaards!!

I went to a bar where all the staff were called Wizards.
  24. Making friends?

Try beer next time I've been to plenty of game dev meet ups, and the thing you got to remember is everyone there is there to talk about the same thing. "Hey, video games?" is a pretty good line, follow it up with a "hey, what you working on?"
