Damn BigJKO, that walk cycle really nails that old PC pixel art aesthetic.

Happy to hear talk about Game of the Year 420 Blaze It and r/MontageParodies. Since there sounded like there was some confusion as to the context of those things, I think I can explain it a little. To start, you can understand the type of content that is being parodied. Here is a completely not ironic montage of Call of Duty: The over use of colour grading, screen effects and dub step lead to people making parodies like: The above is of course funny for applying the hyped up style to a dull game. From that place though, the Montage Parody evolved in probably distinct ways. The first, and probably easier to understand is that people understood that applying the game montage style to any video could be funny. You see many artifacts of the style brought over to this type of video, the colour grading, screen effects and dubstep. Some other ones that developed over time are poorly compressed audio, pop in text saying "rekt" or "Sample text", or the trademark CoD hit X with tick sound. I think you can see some of what I'm talking about here: The other trajectory of evolution of the montage parody is to cram as many memes, viral videos, and other weird internet touchstones into the video as possible. Shrek, Dewritos, Snoop Dogg accompanied by the "Smoke weed everyday" sample, weed in general, dude saying "fuck her right in the pussy", to name a few. There is essentially a canon of appropriate material to edit into your montage parody, and because of this, some montage parodies are pretty darn self referential: I don't know if this is at all interesting or informative, but hopefully it gives a little context for anyone confused. Idle Thumbs and Montage Parodies, two of my favourite things.

I used InControl for my birdy game. Seems pretty tight!

Yay got it to work! Thanks bakelite.

Yeah, it occurred to me as I was developing it that it would fit really well with an Occulus. I think my fix for that would be to have the D-Pad allow you to change the camera angle, probably not to treat it as a third stick, but instead allow you to click between some fixed angles. I didn't have plans to expand until I started reading the feedback I got. I think I actually made something that connected with people, so yeah, I'll have to give some more thought to it.

I tried running you're game but I got an error saying I was missing MSVCR120.dll Finding the ruined city package was heaven sent after I completely failed at creating something with the terrain editor. Asset store FTW. Thanks for the compliments Dino and Clyde.

I will take an Insurgency.

Yeah Jake, it's way way worth the money, these first 8 tracks are show some real effort in the design, also, if you get both packs you get multi coloured Yoshis and Shy Guys!!!

I did a thing! I'm probably going to make a video where I talk about what is going on in it. Just happy to have something done.

My roommate was getting annoyed at me playing Cat Peach on Excite bike Arena, so many tricks, meow! Also, It's a pretty great interpretation of the mute City theme.

This DLC is real good you guys. Mute City is awesome.

Good name as far as I'm concerned, and I'm practically a professional game namer.

Goggles on, butt embiggened. I guess female characters are hard to animate after all. edit: top of new page, i'll put big image in spoiler tags. -
Its 7DFPS time! I'm going to try and realize an idea i had a while ago, it probably won't have shooting in it, and making it first person isn't even that good an idea. Anyways, always good to have a game jam to motivate you.

I picked this thing up at a garage sale for about 5 or 10 bucks: Contrary to the thread title, it's a super terrible game. I feel bad for kids who owned it. Here's a photo of my game shelf:

In the office, we had a little game jam. My team made a game called Dot Monster, which combines the puzzle game Dots with an RPG mechanic. Our animator did some really cool stuff with the monster and background, which scales from being the size of a blade of grass to being bigger than the planet. The game was made for Android, and you can get it here.

Post Your Game for Playtesting and Feedback!
Spenny replied to Jason Bakker's topic in Game Development
clyde, everything you post is wonderful. That was silly I've been looking forward to playing it. Supposedly Unity 4.6 is going to have way better UI stuff, maybe worth checking out. -
I think that the idea that "gamer" has, or should have a static meaning, is an idea incongruous with how the English language works. Additionally, as a self assumed label, similar to say "vegetarian", "anonymous", or "feminist", its meaning is subjective to the adopter, and by nature can not have a strict definition.

I biked out onto "The Leslie Spit" yesterday and snapped many photos, which can be found here.

I can echo a recommendation for Sleeping Dogs. I've kind of had to make the concession with the game's narrative & mechanic-narrative that the amount of dudes my character kills on screen should not be taken as a literal body count. I really liked how the severity of the combat ramped up over the length of the game. A different GTA clone recommendation I've been playing recently is State of Decay. It's a zombie game with an interpretation of setting similar to The Walking Dead, set in a mechanically open world, and with an indie dev quality comparable to Chivalry or Insurgency. Probably a bit of a stretch in terms of how "cloney" it is, but I feel like there's definitely something there that this forum crowd could bite into.

My best find ever was Earthbound, which I got for 15 dollars and has a value of over 100! I also got FF7 for 8 bucks one time. I have a Steel Battalion controller (missing the pedals, though apparently their circuit would be pretty easy to replicate). Also a model 1 Sega CD, which is a lot sexier than the model 2, and would look even sexier if i had a model 1 Genesis to sit on top of it. If this were to be considered a general game collecting thread I could probably post some more cool stuff I have. I haven't been collecting much lately because my old apartment was small and I don't have any good thrift stores around.

I like making my costume, usually I try to do some sort of big craft thing. This year I made a Demon Blood Sword from Adventure Time. I made an album detailing the process here.

There's the game in We Party You where you take a picture of yourself making a face and your friends have to guess what face you were making. That one is always a hit.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

I'll tell you something, at least half of Rovio's income is from their merchandising.
