  1. DOTA 2

Deathmatch is pretty fun! I wish it was short, maybe an option to play 25 stock or something would be cool. Neat little goof off mode, though the loading thing is kind of a drag.
  2. Oculus rift

Doh! Thanks for the input. I'll probably check it out next time I buy from amazon. Oculus looks rad but I'm not that much of a nerd that I justify buying one right now. Someday soon hopefully.
  3. Oculus rift

Has anyone tried out google cardboard from one of those kits on amazon? Seems like a cool way to blow twenty bucks...
  4. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Yeah, I forgot whether or not it even had rumble but honestly I don't like that in a controller at all. It doesn't really enhance anything. My previous favorite controller was the SNES, for the record.
  5. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I do! That thing is INSANE. I got it about a month or two ago and haven't had to charge it at all so far. And it feels great to use with probably the best dpad I've ever used. Its honestly the best controller I've played with.
  6. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Yeah, I love metroid and I get that even the first one showed samus without her suit if you beat it fast enough. It was lame then and it's lame now. If they have shulk in his underwear I'll be less annoyed though, for sure.
  7. Nintendo 3DS

I got my 3DS the week before they shut down swapnote and the very first note I tried to send out was a goofy RPG prompt thing ("You find yourself in a dungeon...") but it was on the actual day they shut it down so it never got sent. :|
  8. Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?

I actually just watched House for the first time last weekend and as fun as it was at the start it got REALLY uncomfortable at the end. So much so that it's actually kind of hard for me to recommend to people.
  9. Feminism

It's me they muted probably. But really every time the Thumbs talk explicitly about feminist issues or women in games on the cast proper a few people inevitably wander into the forums to post poorly. They are usually promptly banned. Also fucking christ these stolen pictures. The responses I've seen have been absolutely disgusting. I hate everything.
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

Blue Ruin was added to Netflix streaming this week and it's one of my favorites of this year. Has a similar kind of tone to early Coen Brother's films like Blood Simple. Dude starts off a bloody chain of events that he is absolutely not prepared for. Check it out!
  11. DOTA 2

I'm just wondering what kind of crazy metrics and graphs Valve is going to get from the victory taunt things.
  12. Idle Thumbs 173: Ridonkulous Rift

Yes of course representation of women is a problem in pretty much all forms of media. It's problematic everywhere, people criticize it in other media all the time. Games do seem to be worse because at least with say, film, you have all sorts of broad genres and types of markets and stuff. With games you historically have mostly ONLY had the AAA developers putting out games that are roughly equal to blockbusters and genre films. There is great work done in that kind of space, but it tends to skew towards a nerdy, male audience. And then this problem with women becomes much more pronounced. You are just leaving these super short posts asking leading questions, and I really don't think you're participating in good faith so I'm not really sure why I'm even responding to this.
  13. I don't know why I'm surprised really but this looked GREAT. I guess I wasn't sure what type of game it would be, or how it would come together. I've been playing/having my girlfriend play Gone Home and The Walking Dead and other narrative heavy, combat light games and she really enjoys them. Pretty excited for this to get on to my computer. dumbedit: Christ, Mington, we made titles the exact goddamn same.
  14. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Hey dorks, can anyone recommend a decent microphone for general voip gaming purposes? I'm currently using the microphone bit of an old logitech headset with a separate pair of headphones for audio, but my friends complin that they can hear a lot of background noise/breathing. I still like my headphones so I'd just want a little lapel mic to clip onto the wire. And also I'm thinking about finally adding a disc drive to my computer. Is this one quality?
  15. The 'Does this thread exist?' thread

I can't figure out which combination of search words would bring me to a general hardware/product recommendation thread. I need to buy a basic microphone for gamin' and also maybe a disc drive for my computer.
  16. Idle Thumbs 173: Ridonkulous Rift

Also, hey! I finally decided to give Nature Box a try after browsing their site a couple times after hearing the ads. The free trial thing seems to be totally free, including shipping. It's set to auto renew into a regular subscription, but it looks like I will be able to cancel if I decide I don't like the snack or whatever. Thanks thumbs!
  17. Idle Thumbs 173: Ridonkulous Rift

Welp. What does it take to get a boot stamping on this dude's face forever?
  18. Idle Thumbs 173: Ridonkulous Rift

Dude, this is not how you want to do this I'm pretty sure. Yikes.
  19. Other podcasts

I really really want to like isometric but something about it really isn't meshing for me. Bummer. Also, going to throw out a recommendation for The Dissolve podcast. They talk about movies and have neat guests and are pretty cool.
  20. Idle Thumbs 173: Ridonkulous Rift

Man, this episode was great. Totally to get there was gonna be a social justice warrior song when the elevator ad music started playing though. Bummed. I am kind of torn between wanting to hear Danielle talk about some of this and also realizing that she might be fucking tired of talking about this. Hope she's back next week, regardless!
  21. Feminism

I can't decide between two snarky replies to these images, so I'll post em both. 1. When has a "games boycott" ever led to people not buying the game in question? 2. Like these clowns actually BUY the games they play. **BONUS # 3**
  22. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Still a bit bummed about no Battle Mode, but hot damn that DLC looks like a great deal. Nintendo's handling of DLC reminds me a great deal of the good ol' PC game Expansion Pack and I am loving it.
  23. Super Time Force from Capy

Woo, didn't realize this was already out on Steam. First time in a while I've bought a game right after it came out. Capy seem to make cool games, I loved that Might and Magic thing on the DS.
  24. DOTA 2

Meh, if that's true he shouldn't be playing in a casual(right?) tournament.
  25. Non-video games

Got some good deals on some new games in that Amazon Gen Con sale. Snagged Castles of Burgundy, Flash Point, and The Resistance: Avalon. Not gotten a chance to actually get them played yet but I have read their rules and punched out their bits and holy christ does Castles of Burgundy look pretty brilliant. I mean, the game art/components are ugly as sin but the mechanics are BRILLIANT. At least, the rules read that way. I'll report back once I get a game or two in. This is my first pure euro and my first Stefan Feld game. I'm gonna have to look into these more than I have in the past.
