Finished Sciver's Youth is Wasted yesterday: bloody brilliant collection. I'm glad I read it at this moment if my time, almost every story in that collection close to home.

Fantagraphics have been doing a beautiful job reprinting the Carl Barks Duck stories and now they're going to reprint Rosa's run; I'm insanely excited! I'm going to be talking to my bosses to see if I could wear my women's--I hate using that word, I don't like the gender separation but I have to because it's so instilled in our society--attire during work. I've been pushing this issue off for a while now and I didn't read anything against it in our rules. Here's hoping! For those wondering, I work at a library.

now if only Carl Barks and Don Rosa got the same level of respect and fame in our mainstream culture as they do in Finnland.

Boom! My copy of Youth is Wasted is coming in today! And tomorrow In Clothes Called Fat comes.

Why thank you, y'all! Found it while thrift shopping and it just grabbed me. It's a wee bit tight on me but it's workable and can be fixed with some stitching. Also bought two other dresses, but they're more kitsch in their design; I love it! The deal with it will never get old.

I'm not going to cut him slack but it's a part of him and his work. Also, for me, I can accept that and enjoy reading his stuff. Add Babara to that "fuck list." What a weird psychosexual manga.

A good amount of it being trashy or oddly sexist or sexually weird--more than usual I mean.

Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer

I love Sátántangó and Béla Tarr films in general. Tarr is one of the few directors that can pull off movie without a narrative; his images are so evocative they get burnt into your heard; his atmosphere is so thick and rich; and his tight control of pacing and tone and to change them in an instant is breathtaking to see. And speaking of Sátántangó, the book is amazing! Krasznahorkai is the master of taking the mundane turning it into an Kafkaesque take. His writing style is thick, miasmic and very labyrinthine. What I mean by labyrinthine is that he purposely makes the reader get lost within his endless paragraphs and sentences to the point where you get overwhelmed and you have you find your way out. Once you do, you see genius behind Krasznahorkai's style and how it enhances his novels. I'm having a hard time articulating why I love his style so much but it's worth checking out. -

Idle Thumbs 167: And That's Why Skeletons Fart That Way

gaymerx was AMAZING! I had a wonderful time there and never felt so comfortable in my life at a con. I got to dress up in this cute sundress I've been DYING to wear but haven't because of the shit I get for being a not being a woman. I didn't get hassled or get into a fist fight and actually got complemented for what I was wearing! Other than that I had a blast meeting new people, talking to cos-players and going to panels. -

I get told the same thing with my Spanish. I'm Mexican and from Cincinnati and I have somewhat a Midwestern/Southern accent and way of speakin. And apparently it weirds people out at times. -
Hah, saw Snowpiercer today too. Some thoughts on it: Snowpiercer did to axes and spears hitting bodies to what The Rover did with gunshots and headshots as in that those movies made those sounds fucking terrifying, loud and made you feel fucking disgusted listening to them. Ugh, I fucking love it. This may be Bong Joon-ho's meanest and darkest film; even with the hopeful music at the end, I still don't think it'll turn out good. The cinematography is fucking beautiful! and I'm so glad someone decided to use winter light. What a lot of people don't know and what a lot of films don't use is winter light, it's fucking gorgeous; all one needs to see is Beyond the Hills to see how true that statement is. Not a lot of exposition and all the world building comes from the world, drawings, and every now and then from the characters; even when we get info from the characters, it's mostly terse and told more as a remembrance than an told to us. Chris Evans fucking killed it! The battle set piece is a cinematic fucking wonder especially when it goes into

The worst thing you can do is mind-read what your partner is feeling or thinking. imo, your best course of action is to talk to her. Let it all out and see where y'all stand and where to go from there; communication is so fucking essential especially when your living with someone. The smallest thing can snowball into an avalanche if there's no room to talk and work out, together, the problems in your lives. Seriously, this is how my last relationship ended. We lived together for three years and were together for five, and one year--all it took was one year--of us just keeping it all in and not engaging with each is what ruined our relationship. We grew apart instead of together because we decided to live in our own worlds and project what were thought of ourselves to the other person. Also, assuming the worst in people, for the most part, is the worst thing you can do. It does nothing to solve the situation and only makes it worse and makes you feel like shit. People are a lot more forgiving and open than you think, especially if they're your partner

Life's back to normal. I've moved from the deep depression to my everyday melancholia/depression that's bearable. It also helped that I talked to my friend Nick whose going through the same thing and we just released everything that was on our chest. We agreed that we're walking Woody Allen films, haha.

This thread is a tour de force -
Projectors are amazing! My best friend has one and when I'm over we do film marathons. We've see Sorcerer, All is Lost, Snowpiercer, Goodbye Dragon Inn and all these emotionally intense crime/thriller/action/noir/barebones films; my god how they overwhelm and envelope you. It's as close as to being in a theater.
