  1. Other podcasts

Does anyone know of a good philosophy podcast? I used to read a lot on the subject but stopped for some reason, and I think I prefer listening anyway.
  2. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I got mine on eBay for a really good price. I think it was £180 with a Wii remote. I sniped though. I sniped hard. Wow, that person really liked Trauma Agent. It's worth checking out HMV if you have one in your town, they're trying to ditch stock as some stores are closing down.

Bjorn, you described how I felt playing the demo. I really cannot wait to pick it up. My girlfriend has actually been bugging me to go and see if there are any cheap 2nd hand copies too. She's getting frustrated with Mario Kart now, as she's gotten skilled enough to do well, but then gets hit with a blue/red/green shell before she crosses the finish line in first place. I'm worried about potential controller spikes during rage quits.

I didn't spend too much, but picked up a few games I've been desperate to play for a while. DS2 Metal Gear Rising DmC Mount and Blade Should be a fun summer! Although DS2 is still a bit of a mess, I though I had the controller issue fixed but it's still a pain in the ass. I hate messing around for 30 mins before I start up the game. By the time I have the controller working I'm too pissed off to play.

Dooooo eeeeet! I have 100+ hours on my Wii U (albeit 30 are Netflix) since I got it. Fantastic machine, and there are a bunch of interesting out now or coming out soon.
  6. XCOM Enemy Unknown

So I decided to try Xcom on Ironman, despite what I said above. It's a different game. I don't know whether it's better, but it's different. My mind changed while playing. Normally, when I have the option to reload, if a Colonel or Major dies, I'm distraught. I'm stressed out at whether I should reload and get back my favourite sniper or favourite assault, but in Ironman if someone dies, I don't even notice. Just more meat for the grinder. The response is generally to think about how to kill their intended target, not to be pissed and upset I lost a valuable member of the team. I'm playing more conservatively, but that's not the interesting thing. For me it's that I'm buying recruits, training everyone equally, and also not progressing in the story. I've been playing 5 hours and I've not captured an alien yet. It's crazy. I'm more concerned with keeping people alive and making sure the lowest ranks get at least one or two kills. I'm also shocked at how much I rely on new recruits. They're a staple of my team, whereas before they were throw away members who I avoided using at all cost. Anyway, try Ironman. It's pretty rad.

Yeah I played the demo again with my girlfriend. She loved it. It was difficult enough to keep her engaged, but nothing extreme. I really hate how Nintendo will make me pay £23 for a digital copy, when the most expensive physical I can find is £14.
  8. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I enjoyed that game, but it was rather forgettable. I think I bashed it out in one day, and fortunately the last level was a jetpack level. I'm pretty sure that's all I remember about it though. It had the potential to be really good though, however it felt incredibly safe, with no risks taken at all. I like the warhammer 40k universe. It doesn't take itself seriously at all and I think some good games can be made out of it. However I really don't blame you for quitting (although it's a pretty short game!).

We all think and talk too much. Another symptom of this community. Too much talk, not enough playing games. I should stop posting and play Mario.

I think it was about time that picture was posted again.

Can peanuts go off? Surely all that salt will kill anything than lands on them.
  12. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I get Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls pop into my head when I think of airline peanuts. That is a rad film.
  13. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Holy shit. He's so cool that he's Zool tm
  14. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I'm pretty much set on buying it now anyway. The Rock Castle level (I think) just made me smile and laugh the whole way through, which convinced me that I was being dumb worrying about one character's design when it's not even that important. Still not going to play as Rayman though. I would prefer to find a download code though.
  15. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

My apologies. Rayman is still ugly, and I don't want anything to do with him/her/it. In other Rayman news, the summer games done quick crew are speed running it right now!
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

I played the RE4 HD thing. It looks amazing, I personally just can't get past the controls from a thousand years ago (and for some reason it wouldn't let me save control schemes when I switched them).
  17. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I think you took me out of context there. I played the demo last night, it's actually a pretty rad game. Seemed pretty easy though. The challenge was in collecting things through the level, but even that wasn't particularly hard.
  18. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

Delayed in the EU. So sad. Oh so sad.
  19. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Are you saying you've never avoided a game because you didn't like the art style? Also people seem to take what I say a little too seriously. It sounds like I have an extremely strong opinion on the matter, but I'm exaggerating quite a lot!
  20. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Tingle isn't grotesque. He's just creepy. Guess who's not there in your search for radman? The Internet has spoken.
  21. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

My opinion is the same as Tegan's. It's his face. He looks like a malformed duck with stupid hair. The lack of limbs just compounds the problem, not only is he ugly as sin, he also makes no logical sense. I seriously can't think of a video game character more grotesque than Rayman. You're welcome to provide examples, but they'll all be wrong.
  22. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I played a 3d Rayman on the N64 and I enjoyed it, albeit all I ever did was sit on one stage where you swung from ropes and slid down a path which led to a weird feeling of disappointment with enjoyment, but now the image of that grotesque character makes me feel ill. I don't know what it is about Rayman, but I just hate the design so much. I guess I'll grab the demo, no harm in that, but I doubt I'll buy the game. It feels incredibly dumb to hate a game because of the way one character looks. Normally it doesn't affect me. I've never played any of the NSMB games, so I won't feel the blandness that everyone talks about.
  23. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

$50 is a reasonable price for a game, I was just concerned with all the potential to be buying ships or upgrades etc. With the ability to play on a game pad it makes the entrance all the more likely for me and I assume a lot of people. Cosmetic micro-transactions are fine by me. Seems like a good way to generate income without affecting the game or making players angry. These are still things I'm not going to buy on a whim, simply because they're huge and indepth. Whereas I'd gladly buy a Mario game without even thinking about how long I'll spend playing. Strange really...
  24. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

So something amazing happened today. My girlfriend who when I first met her exclaimed at how video games are lame and childish, has now taken to playing Mario Kart 8 while I'm not there. I got a text with a photo of her coming in second at the Crown Cup on 150cc while sitting at work. An absolute revelation to me considering how much she complained when I bought it. I seriously think the WiiU, or at least Nintendo have a power that most things don't. She won't touch Steam or my Vita. I seriously doubt she'll touch a PS4 when I get one, but the WiiU caught her eye. Despite it being entirely anecdotal, it shows that Nintendo still appeal to that casual crowd, they just have to have the games to do it. Mario Kart is one, but what else can they do? Does Zelda have the same appeal? I don't think so, it's more of a gamer's game in my experience. I also think having Netflix on there influenced her. She had a reason to turn it on and learn how to use it. That familiarity with how it works undoubtedly led to her trying a game without my guidance. I think I'm going to grab New Super Mario Bros U next. It looks like a decent game, and I'm pretty sure we'll both love it. She keeps trying 3d world but just cannot get the hang of the 3d environment from a fixed camera. I looked at Trine 2, but I realised I already have it on PC from a humble bundle, and I have it on my future PS4 from PS+. It'd be dumb to buy it again. Unfortunately I can't play Nintendo Land because I only have the tablet and the pro controller which isn't supported. I got it free but ditched it once I found that out.
  25. Titanfall

I never liked Last Titan Standing. Mainly because I don't really enjoy using the Titans. I love the wall running aspect, and as soon as I get in a Titan I feel slow and vulnerable. I usually lose in a 1 on 1 titan fight, and prefer the fast moving titan with a chain gun to take out pilots and grunts. I only ever get into a titan fight if I see one already going on.
