I think there's a clear difference between blaming feminism and women for not being in a relationship and feeling self conscious and uncomfortable at the thought of being too pushy or seeming sexist.

Introverts, social anxiety and multiplayer games
Griddlelol replied to kaputt's topic in Video Gaming
I think I got it because I used to feel exactly the same way! I get the whole approval thing, I even did it when I decided to play with people from the Idle Thumbs forum (which is ridiculous, no one here cares if you're good or bad). I still find talking to people first in multi-player games really difficult, but sometimes you can find a group of people who are just fun to "be around" as well as accepting of who you are - I was incredibly lucky finding that in WoW, and that's probably the main reason I consider WoW to be one of my favourite games ever. -
I'm not sure, I only glanced at the IGN article (as in I used find to look for raid or matchmaking). It's not hurt my excitement, and I'm sure after a few months that'll change since every single MMO does the same thing: "We're doing it for the hardcore! No matchmaking! Pain for all!" then within a year "We want everyone to experience the content we're making. Fuck the hardcores, this expansion is rise of the babies!"
-
Apparently there won't be matchmaking for Raids. http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/07/30/destiny-the-endgame-is-only-the-beginning-ign-first Not really happy about that! They say they'll take in the order of hours to complete, if I have 2 hours where I can play a game with no interruptions I doubt I'll have 5 friends online at exactly the same time wanting to do the same thing for 2 hours. Bleh, I hope they put in matchmaking.

Introverts, social anxiety and multiplayer games

I hope you don't think we're picking on you but I think others have made an important distinction about what an introvert is. I have both social anxiety and I'm an introvert, however I love, love, love multi-player games. It removes a lot of the anxiety I get from interacting with people. I played Halo 2 and made a bunch of friends, played WoW and made a bunch of friends and now I'm not playing any social multi-player game, and I really miss it. I hope Destiny will fill that gap because it looks pretty fun. I guess it depends on whether you have a thick skin or not. I'm not really able to take unwarranted criticism well (I tend to sit and think about it for days, even if it's just and off-hand stupid comment like "YOU SUCK GO UNINSTALL" so I steer clear of Lords Managements which have in my experience a rather poisonous community. If you want social gaming, ignore stuff like hearthstone it's a very different kind of multi-player. I really like it as I get an adrenaline rush knowing I'm playing against another person. Your social anxiety shouldn't be affected by it, unless some jackass starts spamming "Thank You" if you make a mistake. Most games tend to start with "Greetings" and end with "Well Played" and nothing in between though, the Thank You spammers are rare. If you want to try a social multi-player game, I'd recommend joining in with either people you know in real life, or people you know on a forum. It'll be a much more gentle introduction than just dropping yourself into a community at random. Oh also, DayZ is kind of an extreme example! You can always avoid games that have any sort of torture in them. -
Man, Game X sounds pretty darn good.

Woah, those are some loose panties.

That's kinda dumb. I was hoping at least there would be different bosses or different enemies, each weak to a specific power. I was also hoping that the powers would be vastly different. Smoke seemed like the close-mid range crowd control tool while neon (at least how it was introduced) was a high damage sniping tool that used a lot of power so required you to be near a power source. Then you get it, and it's the same thing... I dunno, that disappointed me. It sure is pretty though.

Crap! I totally missed this too. Great picture!

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Griddlelol replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Ben Kuchera makes exaggerated and/or controversial opinion based on nothing! Stop the presses! The EA shit kinda sounds cool, until I realised that EA puts out maybe one game every couple of years that I'm remotely interested in. PS+ has some serious value to it, and is clearly subsidised by Sony to get people to buy their platform, and in turn make more money. The EA one is likely to be pretty bad considering they are just trying to make money and have no reason to give consumers anything good. -
So I picked this up yesterday for £20 at my local GAME store (the first time I've actually bought something from them in years). I'm not particularly far but I'm having fun. It's more of the infamous/SR IV/Gravity Rush style that I just like. I couldn't say it's a great game but it's sure decent and I don't regret spending £20 on it at all. I recently got the Neon power and now I'm confused. What's the point in having multiple powers? They both do the same thing but slightly better or slightly worse in one way or another. Nothing so huge that I could think "oh this is clearly better for killing enemies" etc. In fact it feels like picking up a new power makes you weaker as you now have to collect a bunch of blast shards to do anything decent and not have to suck energy every 2 minutes. Does power swapping come into effect later in the game? If not I might as well stick with one and get to know it well. Oh and the choices are pointless blah blah blah just like pretty much every game with morality choices that are linked to upgrades.

Nah, that was the icing on the cake.

I laughed way too hard at that. Man I'm such a kid.

Choosing to Choose, except it is you who have been Chosen, in this new BioWare game.

I had been playing as a bit of a pacifist the whole time. After that I decided to go all out beast. Still haven't finished it! -

Haha! Same thing happened to me. -
Looks pretty good. The tactical view was missing from the console games in DA:O, so I hope it's left in this time.

Lol. Both of those are awesome. It drives me crazy when that happens! That makes a little more sense - the doubt yelling was one of my biggest gripes with that game. Aside from that the visual cues which were so drastically exaggerated caused me to second guess everything. I failed so much because I kept thinking "No one is THAT bad of a liar." -

In my head I think "man dialogue trees are awesome, I loved KotOR and games of that ilk." However when I was playing ME3, I generally found myself just skipping through them as quickly as possible. It felt like a means to an end, and I loathed how if you accidentally hit the same choice again you had the listen all over. Breaks the immersion for me immediately. Plus the awful: "Hi" -> "Sorry I don't have time to talk to you right now." WHY LET ME TALK TO SOMEONE IF THE ONLY OPTION IS TO SAY GOODBYE?! there are problems with having the content written by someone else, and the player choosing the feeling. A really bad example was L.A. Noir, in which I remember choosing "Doubt" and my avatar screaming at the person in the chair. I was like...what? I wanted to doubt him not berate him. One word descriptions of dialogue can be difficult, but soome games do it ok. Alpha Protocol was alright in that respect. -
The anvil was fantastic. I never got into anything like explosives as a kid because of how far away you had to be when you did it. I always wanted to be up close (having awful eye sight and refusing to wear glasses probably had something to do with that) and that's not possible if you're blasting things. So I guess I had some judgement.

lol alright, there are dumb people out there! Just gotta hope most of them get all the dumb out by the time they're done with high school. Some people take it too far with not trusting movies though. I had a buddy who insisted that it was impossible for one person to fall faster than another. I can't remember what movie it was but it involved people falling out a plane, one with an un-deployed parachute, catching up to a guy without a parachute. He insisted that it couldn't happen, but didn't take into account wind resistance and changing body shape while falling. What was more unlikely in the scene was when they met and the parachute was deployed, the one without it had enough strength to hold on to the other with his bare hands. I, like a lot of kids, had a mild obsession with fire and anything flammable. I remember there was a dead Leylandii, which looks like: In my garden that was completely brown and dessicated thanks to the summer. Also thanks to the summer and as they say idle thumbs...I took a lighter to it to see what would happen. Resulted in the fire brigade screaming at me. In my defence, I had a bucket of water next to me, and the hose in case it got out of hand. I expected it to smoulder a little like paper, but the thing went from a tiny smoulder to a full blown tree of fire in a heartbeat. Needless to say there were no lighters in places a small boy could reach after that one.

I still don't know if I agree with you on that being dumb per se. There's nothing anywhere to indicate otherwise that things you see on TV don't fit in with natural laws. It's made worse by writers themselves probably not knowing the natural phenomenon they're writing about (or ignoring it because it's more fun). I have to kinda applaud the guy for actually doing the basic experiment and questioning it in the first place. Although I will concede - a young adult, assuming 18-26 (hooray! I still fit!) only just coming to this realisation is pretty dumb! Most of us tried this stuff out in our childhood/very early teens and came to that realisation then. I'm pretty sure I was pissed off at 11 when I found out that not all spirits can be turned into molotov cocktails like they are on TV. My dad was also pissed off that I wasted a whole bottle of Jack Daniels.

It's kill or be killed. Just like real hunting. Why do I find the shooting of animals for a virtual sport far more gross than shooting hundreds of people in a fictional war?

Well then! If OP wanted to do eBay, it looks entirely possible. 30% of a 360's price would be more than enough to cover shipping (although admittedly I don't know how much shipping costs in the US of A). The only "fraudulent" sellers I came across when dealing with models, was that the pictures taken were deliberately misleading, generally followed by condition: Very good, and "SOLD AS SEEN" in the description (which has always been a red flag for me). That's still around, but eBay definitely favours buyers over sellers if you argue long enough.

I don't know if that's incredibly dumb, there are no smoking signs everywhere in gas stations in the UK. Granted it's probably because they don't want people lighting up considering that are flammable. To be fair, I best most people think that it's the liquid petrol that's flammable, not the vapour anyway. I know I did until I had a job in chemistry.
