  1. Destiny

Fuck, that made me pre-order. I never pre-order! Why am I so excited for this stupid game?
  2. I'd throw my money at that in a shot. I don't know how it'd work, but I don't care.
  3. Ferguson

I was first scared by a police officer in Italy. He was walking through the street with his hand on a holstered pistol. Really freaked me out. Also in the USA, I was asked a bunch of unreasonable questions about why I was coming, why I only had hand luggage and how could I afford the flight. I answered all the questions (although I don't believe I had to) because I didn't want to be detained at the airport for hours.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

If you can be a social justice berserker, then I'm in.

I normally loathe Jezabel - the writers on there are absolute garbage (probably because they've never been taught how to write). However, the community is pretty good: this article on http://jezebel.com/a-conversation-about-friendly-catcalling-with-my-husban-1619535048'>catcalling had some really insightful comments. I was honestly lost in thought about it while sitting reading the comments at work. Made me rather sad. It also made me think about how one should deal with casual sexism. I've intervened a couple of times, but I've also not intervened many more than I'd like to admit. I think my biggest fear is that the woman will tell me either a ) it's not sexism, or b ) that helping her is sexist in and of itself. How do you deal with casual sexism? I'm not talking about blatant stuff, but more underhand or innocent seeming comments?
  6. The Ethics of Battlefield: Hardline

I don't believe anyone in this thread has said anything about Militaristic shooters being OK in general. I personally don't play any FPSS that has a modern setting, I especially find shooters that actually put a real nation as the "bad guy" (as in, not American) very distasteful. Wasn't there a "China Rising" DLC or something for a previous Battlefield game? Ew.
  7. P.T (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills)

Too creepy. I quit fast. I find horror movies utterly boring, but horror games destroy me. I think I was playing this for 3 minutes and I could already feel my heart beating faster and myself getting stressed. I'm a baby, and this did what it was meant to do. I guess some people like being scared. No fucking clue why.
  8. Feminism

I just glanced at the forum and the thread is almost impossible to follow. I think I'm happy to go back to being ignorant on this; the whole thing seems dumb.
  9. Feminism

I've been out of the loop on this, but let me get this straight: The whole indie dev sleeps with games journalists thing...Why is she being attacked for this? If the argument was even related to journalistic ethics, the journalists should be the ones who are getting attacked.
  10. The threat of Big Dog

I lol'd real hard at that. This really cool, fluid folding to make a robot, followed by it basically flailing with the grace of a fish out of water just had me.
  11. Spelunky!

Probably less than 3 hours. The vita doesn't track your time spent. I was rather cool on it, I think I heard it talked up so much, in so many places before I finally tried it and immediately sucked real bad at it. I'm really not that good at platformers in general, so < 3 hours probably isn't enough for me even to get a good grip on it. Edit: I believe I have 40-ish deaths.
  12. The Ethics of Battlefield: Hardline

I've come round to changing my stance on this game after reading the news of what's happening in Ferguson. I still don't feel as strongly about it as others on this forum do, but it definitely seems like a bad idea to release this now.
  13. The gun parry looks way more forgiving in timing than the shield parry. I like that.
  14. The Ultimate Playthrough, Metal Gears!?

I'm totally picking it up after I finish MGS on vita. The game has really clicked for me after years of trying. One thing I've noted is that the design of bosses isn't my personal preference. What I mean, is that in MGS, the bosses are difficult to figure out how to kill, but once you understand the strategy, defeating them is just a formality. It kinda rubs me wrong, as it goes against many of the modern games I love which not only require you do figure out how (which is generally easy, but sometimes complex) to kill the boss, but also require a lot of skill to execute. Basically anything like Platinum games or the Souls games. I wonder if that's a design choice, or whether it was because of the inherent limitations 20 years ago.

That's rather interesting, I hadn't even considered the exploitative nature of normal porn as a possible point in favour for animated porn. That's a horrible way to put it, but I can't think of anything else. Don't take that to mean I'm trying to say one is better or worse, but if there's got to be porn, at least animated doesn't require desperate women to do degrading things. Another great point is that both animated and live action (for want of a better term) are equally fantastical, both in how the sex is performed, and the bodies of the people in there. I think one of the best pieces of advice my mother gave me as a teenager was "sex isn't really like porn." The number of naive boys who enter their first sexual relationship expecting that is far too large. This is coming from someone in the UK, which has decent sex ed in comparison to the US. One thing I've noted is that with a google search (serious research here people), the anime porn that you find focuses almost exclusively on the women. They are drawn with every minute detail, whereas the men are mere decoration (often without the artist even bothering to draw a face) for the ideal cartoon woman, which is different to live action, where the male genitalia is glorified. So it's quite clear from the examples I've seen that this stuff is drawn by men for men. I bet there's stuff out there that's by women for women, but I guess it's not as popular or common. On the topic of story lines, I can't comment, what I've seen, and the context of the discussion at work was about still images, not videos. Unfortunately it veered into a "aren't Japanese people weird" area, rather than the point I brought up in this thread. It is a shame that anything fiction relating to sex is seen as a bad thing, and the stigma associated with it is awful, especially for women. As sarah argobot pointed out the porn created is for men, it's accepted that men look at this stuff, but the idea that women do (or would want to) is seen as ridiculous. It reenforces that old concept of women not being interested in sex. I still can't figure out an answer to my original question - can objects be objectified. I suppose it's more complex that I initially hoped.
  16. Feminism

I have a question that's related tangentially to a discussion in the Fan Fiction section. I was involved (well, I refused to give an opinion considering I haven't formed one yet) in a discussion at work on porn, but more specifically anime porn. One of my colleagues problems with it was that it objectifies women. So after thinking about it, is it possible to objectify an object? A drawing is by definition an object, but it's of something that is representing a person, and if it was a real person in that situation, it would be pure objectification. I'm a little confused about this and I'm finding it hard to make my mind up on whether it's a valid problem with anime porn. What do others think of this?
  17. Spelunky!

Part of my problem is that I'm terrified to innovate in Spelunky. Getting past 2-3 is such a fucking rare occurrence that the idea of risking something to get a small reward is crazy. Comparing to Dark Souls (which has a similar level of loss on dying), I innovated much more in that game because I picked it up so much faster. 2 or 3 hours in and I knew the basics and didn't constantly play worrying about dying, because I knew I could probably handle most things the game threw at me. Spelunky on the other hand, I am still very slow and deliberate, because I don't react correctly to a bunch of different challenges.
  18. Spelunky!

I think what surprised me most about it all is the sheer number of things that can work. The thought that's gone into the design is just wonderful. They also display the physics in Spelunky really well, which is probably my favourite part of the game.
  19. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I'm struggling to understand why I'm so excited for Hyrule Warriors. I've played one Dynasty Warriors game, when I was about 15. Loved it at the time, but not enough for me to buy another one. I think this game just looks so pretty that I'm going to have to try it.
  20. Spelunky!

    I can't process this! http://imgur.com/a/nUScC
  21. What was I playing in 2009? Probably Boarderlands and Demon's Souls...oh and WoW.
  22. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I'm no Eve expert, but wasn't there a huge backlash against that when it was introduced? I thought the hate for it was so intense that they got rid of it.
  23. I was going to reply "I don't have a PS3, so I'll never get to play it." However with the horrible march of technology and PS Now coming to the UK soon, there's a good chance I'll actually be able to play it. Who needs back compatibility when the games are in the cloud? *said in wispy, ghost-like voice*
  24. I only played the first instalment of the Uncharted series. I remember feeling really disappointed by the game. Is it bigger than Tomb Raider?
  25. The tweet I got the info from seems wrong. Crystal Dynamics came out and said it is completely exclusive to Xbox. Terrible decision, but maybe they have to off-set lower than anticipated sales of the previous instalment with a huge lump sum of cash, and let MS spend on the marketing.
