  1. I'm actually finding this rather amusing, that such a discussion can come from a piece of plastic on a controller. Basically, if you don't press down perfectly in the centre of the 360 pad, it comes out as diagonal-down. Whereas on the vita, or any nintendo controller, down is always down.
  2. Metro: Last Light

Oh, I'm playing on PS4. Controller issues, not mouse.
  3. The important part is that in good d-pads, pressing two or tilting the cardinals generates the diagonal easily. There's no problem. It just works The problem with the xbox d-pad is that pressing the diagonals is easier than pressing the cardinals which results in difficulties in movement.
  4. Yes! I have. I did a dozen duels last night when I got to the mandatory lava area Iron Keep. Really had a lot of fun even though I lost most of them. I felt that Dark Souls adrenaline rush when I see them getting low health. Absolutely loved it. Only complaint (because I have to have one!) is that my opponents were switching out gear constantly, while I'm stuck carrying one weapon due to equip load being bullshit. I was rocking a great club, which was hilarious to use as when my opponent made a mistake, I punished them HARD. However being able to switch to a different weapon would have been very useful. So adaptability affects agility which affects iframes which is important for rolling. That's so obtuse!
  5. Feminism

I kinda assumed this from the get go. I'm sure there are some 20-30 somethings in the group, but I like to believe most people are a little more rational and empathic by that age. I think the only way to stop the problem of threats and harassment in the short term is to make everything real name only. Give everyone accountability, rather and letting children and cowards hide behind a wall of anonymity and make threats. Obviously that's not a simple task - and I'm one of those people that hates giving out personal info on the internet - but I don't see a short term solution to it.
  6. Metro: Last Light

Biggest complaint with 2033 so far - the sensitivity of the controls is garbage. I've got them put to the top and it still takes forever to do a 180. Second biggest complaint - normal difficulty is incredibly easy, hardcore is too difficult. Bleh.
  7. Best d-pad in the business. Note the complete lack of diagonals - which are entirely pointless. New page! This d-pad deserves it.
  8. I forgot about that one! I actually liked that boss, despite it being a complete joke to kill (I walked in there with the perfect weapon to deal with them). I had remembered everyone talking about a rat boss when DS2 first came out, and I assumed it'd be like a huge anthropomorphic rat with a sword or something. Went in to that room, started smooshing rats with a giant club, and then noticed that one was a boss. I thought it was a cool idea to hide the boss in with the rest, so I don't really count that one in my complaints - it wasn't made artificially hard with the rat adds, it was all about the rat adds. I'm not having trouble with these add bosses, I think the only one I didn't one shot was Freja, and that was because I didn't notice her weakness on the first attempt (the laser). I think that's what's irritating me the most, is that they're artificially hard, but not in a way that's meaningful. You spend most of the game dealing with groups of enemies, so you're trained to deal with them in bosses, making them trivial, since the adds are where the difficulty comes from. Also, because I'm a loser, I refuse to summon anything. I dealt with DS1 without summons, I can do it here too! I think you did, but that's fine, it made my point clear that it's only certain bosses I'm finding disappointing, not them all - there have been some really good bosses and I'm thoroughly enjoying the game. I'm not one of the "Dark Souls 2 is crap" crowd, I'm definitely in the "it's an amazing game but..." camp. I've just noticed that when I beat a DS2 boss, I'm no where near as elated as when I beat a boss in DS1. It's unfair for me to say it's the game's fault, it's likely just I know how to play now thanks to the number of "git gud" bosses in DS1.
  9. I am at 15 Adaptability, and the rolling feels fine. I'm pretty happy to leave it there now that my level requires so many souls to progress. Unfortunately I've progressed a lot - and more the the point I've got to work today.
  10. Just to be clear, there's a huge difference to fighting what amounts to be 2 bosses like O&S - which is my favourite fight in all the Souls games - and one large boss, surrounded by small trash mobs such as Freja. The Ruin Sentinels are the closest thing I've come to O&S, although significantly easier because they both have the same attacks, and that's a good, interesting fight which benefits from 2 bosses, but there have been at least 3 fights so far which have just been artificially complicated thanks to little adds: Freja, Skeleton Council and Wandering Magus & Congregation are the ones I've seen. They just feel like the difficulty is entirely in avoiding the crappy guys, and dealing with the very simple boss. Compare that to Gargoyles in DS1, which not only added another boss, but added another attack that both could do - the fire breath. You had to watch both, avoid lock on, and plan your attacks. When I fought Freja, the tactics were simply run around and hit her whilst the spiders follow you like a Benny Hill movie. It just made the fight artificially long. (Note: I hate the spiders, for some reason they are unblockable with the shield I use so I didn't bother trying to kill them since I would have just gotten wrecked). I don't really know. I aimed to do a Str build, so I have quite a lot put in there, but loads of weapons require at least 18 DEX, so I have that. Plus I've been putting points in Adaptability because someone said to (although I've not noticed anything). I also have focussed a lot on equip load since I'm rocking heavy armour and a shield (equip load is the worst stat ever, it should be included in something like in DS1). Basically most of my points are in HP and Stamina since they're by far the most useful stats in my opinion.
  11. I'm actually starting to see why people have complained about this game so much. It's...too easy, and the bosses seem to rely on a bunch of shitty adds to complicate them, rather than anything else. I dunno, I've one shot most of the bosses and I feel like I should be having more of a rough time. I don't know whether it's a fault of the game, or whether I'm just used to the mechanics now and don't find the bosses surprising.
  12. Life

Well I took a bit of advice from people here and emailed the student video games society to see if they're still active, and would accept me despite not being a student. It's a first step, and certainly not a last, but I miss the days of couch coop, or competition, and with SSB coming out soon, having a group of people to play with would be fantastic.
  13. Nintendo 3DS

Apparently playstation systems need that 29c lock way more. That's not really the issue, people tend to know what thing they're buying when it's $200+. The problem is what games work on what machines, and splitting the sections in brick and mortar stores. Parents trying to buy their children games and not knowing what's what is pretty darn common, and returning games is incredibly difficult once you've broken the plastic wrapping.
  14. Spoiled for choice: adrift in a sea of games

This is a complaint I hear a lot of people say and I can't quite empathise with it because I'm quite the opposite of you in how I choose things. Instead of labouring over a menu in a restaurant, I'll make a snap decision and have whatever sounds the most delicious. Same with games, I jump from one to the next with whatever is the most interesting at the time. That said, I usually finish (or go as far as I can with) a game before I move onto the next, and I tend to have multiple games on the go at the same time on different platforms. For example right now I'm playing Metro 2033 on ps4, Mario Kart 8 on WiiU, Dark Souls 2 on PC and Rogue Legacy/Spelunky on Vita (I have too many gaming machines). They all fulfil a different niche in whatever I'm craving. Do I want light hearted multiplayer? Mario Kart! Am I watching boring TV? Rogue Legacy! Am I settling down for a good hour to play something intense? Dark Souls! In quiet times of my life I get through backlogs very quickly - this past month or so I've completed roughly 5 games, which is insane for me! Normally takes me months and months to finish one. My childhood I had the same deal as you - games are £60, you're allowed them at birthday or christmas. However, I delved deeply into MMOs (well one MMO) in my late teens/early twenties and now I have a huge desire to play loads of different games with wildly varying experiences. We do live in probably the best era of gaming, with such a huge amount of diversity in the experience each title offers.
  15. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Not that I'm aware of. I tried it with a usb connected PS4 controller and nothing happened, but maybe with updated versions of the driver software it could. Similarly, I've not tried with an xbone controller because I don't own one, so that could work (if it has the jack).
  16. Idle Workouts

I work out because I enjoy it. Just like I eat shit loads because I enjoy it. If I dropped either one is be sad. How are the 5x5 routines working for you over the higher rep ranges? I do one day a week at 5x5 to try and break plateaus. Find it really helpful because I then know I can do more on my usual 8-12 range stuff. I don't know if I could do it every day though. It takes so long!
  17. Nintendo 3DS

This is dumb. I want to play xenoblade but there's no way in hell I'm buying a new 3ds for it. This is going to cause a lot of confusion as well. Are the set on the name "new" 3ds? Also, now I'm confused as to what ds stands for. Is it dual screen or dual stick?
  18. I Had A Random Thought...

I hate when people change avatars because I have no clue who they are anymore.
  19. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

The addition of headphone jacks to controllers in this generation of consoles is just about the greatest thing ever.
  20. Life

I used to be like that, but now that I don't have easy access to my friends, I always make the effort to see as many people as possible when I get the chance. I've found people really appreciate it if you make the effort, and some people get bent out of shape if you don't. Doing things is expensive! I've been looking for a good evening class for a while - either something handy like bike maintenance or something more academic like learning Italian or Czech, but they're not cheap at all. Then there's the fact I get home from work and I'm usually dead tired, and really not in the mood for making small talk with people.
  21. Life

I'm basically at the same point, I moved away from all my contacts for my new job and it's incredibly hard to make new friends in this line of work. Most people's contracts last between a year and 3 years. As I start getting friendly with someone their contract is up and they're gone. Making friends is hard once you leave college. The good part is when I visit family I end up spending a few extra days because my friends down there always want to catch up.
  22. Titanfall

If I hadn't been waiting 10 minutes to get a game before the map packs, then I probably would have bought them.
  23. Super Time Force from Capy

Honestly I don't expect it to come to vita, but a man can dream. I think I might have to do the same thing. She is incredibly over powered. I've tried using the shield dude, but in the time it takes to set stuff up, I could have put two sniper and just killed everything.
  24. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

That comic is great. Also: bought! Can't wait for them to be released!!
  25. Titanfall

That's odd. Those maps always felt rather empty. The ai and titans really helped fill them up. I think respawn fucked up with DLC maps. That killed the game for me. Shame to see something promising die slowly in the EU region.
