  1. An email I sent to Giantbomb

The beard, the pants, the attitude. He's just Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Suddenly I love Ryckert.
  2. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I think the biggest problem I had with hearthstone was that winning was so great, but losing felt horrible. When the win ratio is 50:50, that's cool. You feel fine, but as soon as it started to dip below that, I just straight up hated it. Oh and not being able to pause PvE games sucked.
  3. Ferguson

I'm not sure if this is the best place for it, without starting a new thread (which I'm too uninformed to do), but it seems related - racial profiling, brutality etc. So yeah, that CIA report is pretty fucked up. I've been incredibly disgusted by the way Jihadists have treated western hostages - beheadings and the like are utterly brutal and repulsive - but this stuff is just as bad, if not worse. I don't want to be associated with this stuff, I've never opposed any of the wars or terror legislation in my country, however if this is how they treat prisoners, I regret not saying something. I thought we - the west - were above such stuff. Honestly, this stuff makes me feel ashamed rather than angry. I wish it was the other way around. I think something that worries me the most is that the US government didn't seem to know about it. Whether that's true or not I don't know, but I have no reason other than to take that denial at face value.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Edit: oops! Wrong thread. Will post in the other.
  5. Saints Row 4

People care about Gat? Did they choose him just to get a stupid pun?
  6. Destiny

I'm still a bit disappointed with the game post level 20, so I kinda want Bungie to be the bad guy here. If they patch it, good on them, can't blame them for an honest mistake. If they don't, it will just seem like an abhorrent cash grab, even if it is only a mistake.
  7. Feminism

I experienced 2 watered down versions of "cat calling" (although they weren't really that, just more like sexual and inappropriate comments) recently. It sucks, I can't imagine how much worse it'd be if I actually feared for my safety as well as the other feelings that come with it. One even involved a compliment on my body, part that I'm proud of and worked hard to achieve, but context is king, so in the situation that was at hand, it didn't feel like a compliment, it felt like a leer. I just wanted to share my extremely watered down experience of what it must be like for women.
  8. Destiny

Wow, that's incredibly cheesy. So from what I've heard, if you don't buy the DLC, your game is somewhat crippled. No loot drops from strikes etc. That news just makes me not want to buy the DLC, and tell Bungie to get fucked. Edit. Also the weekly strike/nightfall appear to be locked for people who don't have the expansion.
  9. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

I'm on Nightmare and about 1/3 of enemies have an elemental resistance, with stronger enemies occasionally having 2 resistances. I've decided to spec deep into my specialisation tree, and one other tree, and I just choose the highest base damage staff without taking into account elements. It can be irritating, but with 2 mages (my character is KE -spirit damage dorian is necromancy - again spirit damage which never has a resistance as far as I can tell) with different elemental specs one fire, one ice I can just focus fire on different things. The only irritating thing is when I can't be bothered to finish off one guy who has a resistance to my staff, I have to keep waiting for stuff to recharge and slowly take it down. A tip for the warriors: pick up charging bull and use it yourself. It generates guard for each enemy you hit, so you can rack it up fast at the start of a fight. Also don't forget to set your mage to defend:warrior just to make sure they're throwing up barrier - preferably with the reduced cooldown (unless of course you want to do it yourself which is why I chose mage). LAter on there are enchants and items that let you generate guard on % chancer per hit. Those are fantastic for warriors. The sad thing is, Knight Enchanter plays exactly how I wanted warrior to play. Lots of up-close damage, damage immunity, continual defence generation.
  10. Argh! Some of those had me laughing crazy hard. That's it, I've hit the highest point of the day with that link.
  11. Crikey, It's Christmas (2014)!

That's how I feel every year.
  12. Yeah, I've been pretty defensive, I could probably afford to jump off and go for it. You're right, the balloons are crazy good recovery. Villager's aerial left/right attacks are superb for KOs when edge guarding though. Tried out Link last night, and I hate him! Just extremely weird to use. I'm not a fan of the medium characters though. I like heavies and lightweights.
  13. Screenshots. Shots of your screen.

This thread makes me realise I don't take enough screen shots. Probably for the exact same reason I never take photos of things. I'm too busy enjoying the moment to even consider pressing that button or pulling out a camera. Double edged sword I guess.
  14. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

I adored the combat mechanics in Transistor. They were exactly what I want out of a pseudo-real time/turn based game. The story just didn't work for me. I played it through twice and I still couldn't make any sense of what was going on. It wasn't pretentious as a lot of people have said in different places, just too nebulous, requiring the player to figure out what was going on, but not really providing enough clues. All I got from the story was I dunno, not everyone is good at reading between the lines and picking up on that stuff. If that's what they were aiming for, I guess they might have done a good job, but I wouldn't know, which is why it can't be on my GOTY list.
  15. I'm unsure if I have everyone's NNID in here. The WiiU thread hasn't been updated in a while, but it'd be great to play with some thumbs if they're online. Shame the WiiU doesn't notify you if one of your friends is online, because I've probably missed more than one chance.
  16. I've not tried Link. He's usually my go to character to learning. After seeing 11/12 players as Link in MK8 I decided to avoid the character. Playing Villager makes me want to play animal crossing again.
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

I broke 5 bones at once! All in one foot. I like to think my robust, high calorie, high variety diet and huge amounts of exercise keep me healthy, but it's probably just being a bit of a recluse that does the job.
  18. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

My list is pretty bland, but currently it goes a little something like this: Dragon Age Inquisition. I love a good WRPG. Rogue Legacy. I'm late, but it came out this year for my platform(s) of choice. Mario Kart 8. Fallen out of favor recently, but I had a lot of fun. BoI: Rebirth. Straight up fun. SSB4. I'm loving it, but playing on my own is no where near as fun as playing with people. Bayonetta 2 is still in my back log, so my opinions might change once I bury into that. I'm also working through Shovel Knight, which is pretty OK. Nothing outstanding though.
  19. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

    Which episode is that?
  20. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

My partner had a really successful run thanks to an incredible synergy. Money = Damage followed by the piggy bank and then discovering Tammy's head right before Mom. She had 99 coins from Mom onwards and one shot every boss with Tammy's head. Was hilarious to watch!
  21. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

I agree that it's a little disappointing, but while this isn't a particularly good measuring stick, I like it more than ME3. I'm finding the combat is interesting if you do it two ways: 1) Easy. Just play like a hack n slash game. 2) Nightmare. Managing cooldowns, holding aggro, picking off important targets. Plays a bit closer to a SRPG, which I really appreciate. However, I do wish they had chosen one type and done it well, rather than the weird mish-mash of combat systems they have now. Either go full hack n slash, or (preferably) go for a full turn based SRPG style.
  22. Yeah I've been abusing the axe, and I'm getting my hand back into tilt attacks. Villager's smash is very easily punishable; it has a long delay from input followed by a long delay once it's done, coupled with poor reach. I feel like it hits hard for his weight category though. I'm having a little trouble edge guarding with him. My instinct is to throw down a tree, but it takes too long in some cases. The fireworks up smash is pretty good for the edge guard, but it's easily avoidable. What do you do? I didn't know you could defend from final smashes! That's pretty cool! I'm torn between DK and Charizard as my second character. I like DK a lot more now, compared with 64 and melee, but I suck with his aerial down ability. Find it real hard to time. Charizard's flare blitz is just gravy though. His forward tilt has some great reach too.
  23. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

Pretty much this. Inquisition's combat system is pretty weak. It's interacting with the world and talking to characters that are the best parts of the game. The exploration is pretty cool though. Some really beautiful environments, and when you explore you get a dialogue tree, or letter to read.
  24. The terrible wallet scourge of the Amiibo.

I need an amiibo. I just don't know which one I need. Edit: FUCK! Why is the Villager amiibo £25, while Donkey Kong is £10?!
