  1. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

So I'm at the collection part of Metroid Prime. Er...this is kinda tedious. The clues are pretty weak, and you don't get anything cool for your trouble. The only thing that's good about making me revisit areas, is that I can go pick up any power-ups I missed. The collection reminds me a lot of Wind Waker's Triforce hunt at the moment, in that it's a crappy way to extend an excellent game.
  2. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

How are they contradictory? In Star Wars, people use swords made out of light. They cut shit. They don't flop (a floppy cutting tool would be more than useless), they don't skid down each other - if anything they appear to get stuck on each other. A light sabre existing the way it does in the movies, rules out a whip, and also renders the need for a hilt pointless. They got along fine without them for XXXX years, why suddenly do they need protection that they've never needed before?
  3. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

I never played online, and I suspect that's why I didn't have the drive to push through the grind. I've come to terms with it: I'm not going to bother with MH4 because I just can't stand the grind. It's not for me, because of that, despite the boss fights being superb.
  4. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Wow, that's actually a big step towards me potentially buying 4. Are they still required for making the best (I say best, but what I really mean is progression, since end game MH is probably not something I care about...yet) loot? I remember 3 having to do some farming for stuff at the start just to make a chest piece (I think) that ended up looking ridiculous.
  5. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I believe you! Although it doesn't explain how the beam cuts while being in a containment field. Not that I want to know, since it destroys why Star Wars is great. I too have browsed Wookiepedia, but I'm normally disgusted at how people are just missing the point of Star Wars. No technology needs an explanation, as long as it is internally consistent. This is why a "light-whip" is dumb. It's also why the "light-hilt" is dumb.
  6. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Does any progress you make in the demo transfer to the game? I'd hate to spend a couple of hours grinding then realise I completely wasted that time when I bought the full game (I haven't spent any money). I didn't like having to do fetch quests and kill shitty little guys after fighting crazy big bosses who were challenging and fun. The searching for items is what drove me away because it felt like a chore, and something that was completely unnecessary. What I liked about Freedom Wars is that you don't have to repeatedly play fetch quests or kill nothing enemies (until end game). You get everything you need just by progressing through the bosses. I really liked the boss fights. I hated grinding.
  7. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

So, if I didn't get into Monster Hunter 3 on 3ds (even after buying a CPP for it) is there any chance I'd like 4? The idea of the game makes it sound like it's my thing. That I'd love it, but in practice I get tired of the grinding really fast. I've tried other "hunting" style games, I thought Soul Sacrifice was bad, and I really liked Freedom Wars (right up until the end when the difficulty gets to a ridiculous point that you need to upgrade all your shit, but the upgrades are low percent chance random fucking drops).
  8. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I don't get it, surely "containment field" suggests the laser - as in the damaging part - is well...contained. How on earth does that work? It just sounds like a bullshit explanation some nerd came up with for a cool laser sword. I also thought that the blades were meant to be incredibly heavy. Which is why George Lucas had Luke, Ben and Vader fight like they were swinging some massive weight, rather than a weightless sword. It bugs me when people use technical details to try to understand Star Wars. The whole point is that it's science fantasy, who cares how a TIE fighter flies, or why it makes noise in space? It looks and sounds badass. Who cares where the space wizaaaaaaaards get their power from? Tiny microbes that sound like mitochondria and chloroplasts squashed into one word isn't interesting or entertaining. Star Trek is about that stuff, which is a great show in its own, separate way. Conflating the two makes them both worse.
  9. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I've stopped playing BoI, but my partner is still hooked. I actually have way more fun watching her (or hearing her complaints/screams of joy) than playing myself now. She's gotten pretty good, to the point of reaching but she hasn't beaten it yet. I'm pretty impressed considering she's never played any other game than Mario Kart (and Rayman Legends).
  10. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

Yup! Moustache twirling is pretty much why I don't like her. That, and her ridiculous boob shirt. I mean seriously, it wouldn't help her modesty during a fight. It's literally kept there by nothing.
  11. Nintendo 3DS

I really like Kid Icarus, but it's so difficult to play as a leftie. It's one of the few games where I've stopped because of dexterity issues and hand/arm/finger/wrist/shoulder cramping.
  12. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Woo! I think you made a great choice
  13. I actually really fucking hate this about Zelda games. I want to resume where I stopped, because I'm not a child, and I can't always play for an hour or 2 hours. The weirdest thing, is that ALBW had a teleporter which took you to around the mid point of the (fairly short) dungeons, accessible from the entrance. However, it was also on 3DS, so you could just suspend->resume if you wanted to stop. Perfect.
  14. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

I'm not going to spoiler tag my opinion. I don't like Morrigan. Done. I'll tell you who I did like, Dorian. No one seemed to like him compared to (the also pretty cool guy) Iron Bull. Dorian said some straight up funny stuff that made me lol. Plus he had moustache. That instantly makes him likeable in my books.
  15. Nintendo 3DS

Cave Story looks right up my alley. I'll probably grab that once I'm done with Shantae. I wonder if it's possible for me to burn out on Metroidvanias. I've just finished Super Metroid, I am playing the Metroid Trilogy whilst playing Shantae and Apotheon (although that's not a true Metroidvania). I falling in love with the genre, but I feel it's one that relies heavily on style. I don't want to back track or explore places that I have no interest in, which is why I'm nervous about trying Castlevania. I tried to play Guacamelee, but absolutely loathed its art and the stupid meme jokes everywhere, but Super Metroid, Prime and Shantae have been calling to me every time I turn on a console.
  16. I don't really get the same feeling. The style of each game is different enough, and the time between each game makes me not notice any similarities, and see them as completely different, self contained games. I'm not a LoZ mega fan. I never buy the games on release date, I've not played or finished every game but I still feel like each 3d Zelda is, well ...good. Kinda sounds like you'd resigned to not liking it, which is fine. I think the slowness of the boots adds to the atmosphere and it'd be weird if they let you walk normal speed, or close to that. Similarly, the hover boots in OoT act like you're walking on ice - slippy, slow start and a skid to stop. Unnecessary from a mechanical perspective, but really add to the feel of the item.
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

    Is Link goose stepping?
  18. I don't hate the art style. It's got nothing on WW though. I also remember a section where you storm a Moblin fortress/camp. I remember thinking that was extremely un-Zelda-like. It felt like a 3rd person military shooter/action game. I remember really liking it and being kinda disappointed in myself for liking it so much. I'll reserve my judgements until I'm done with it, but I think it's a bit unfair to say Nintendo played it safe with TP. There's some fairly new (for Zelda) and interesting (for Zelda) stuff in that game. I just wish there was a way to skip the tutorial, that's what's stopping me from picking it up again to complete it.
  19. Nintendo 3DS

There's something about Castlevania that puts me off, maybe because I have little interest in vampires, whereas sci-fi and sci-fi mysticism are things I absolutely love so Metroid is an obvious fit.
  20. The couple of hours I played of TP involved learning some secret moves from an unkown entity. I thought that was a pretty cool concept for a Zelda game, kinda like finding new items, but rather than being necessary to beat certain enemies, it just made it easier/more stylish. It'd never been done before in Zelda, so it seemed neat to me.
  21. Wind Waker, because it's the best Zelda game made so far. If you have a WiiU play that version, rather than the original GCN. Ocarina of time is pretty good too, and really the game that got me into Zelda (I'm the opposite of you, I dislike the 2D games, but love the 3d ones) so it's worth a try. Again, play the remake. The original is pretty hard on the eyes, with gross old polygons and a terrible 20 fps. I've still yet to finish TP and play SS, but they're on my list of to play. I'd like to finish all the 3d Zeldas before the new one comes out.
  22. Nintendo 3DS

So Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is brilliant. I'm playing on WiiU, but the previous discussion was in here. It's super streamlined and real, real, pretty. It's odd, that the combat is actually quite difficult, at least in comparison to the puzzles/exploration, which is very simple. I can't believe I've missed out on this genre for so long, just because I hated back-tracking as a kid. I'm officially a convert, and I want to play all the Metroidvanias.
  23. Job Hunting

Don't just quit without handing in notice, I'm not calling you an asshole, but it's a pretty selfish thing to do. Someone did that at my previous job, which while wasn't retail, was high stress as we had a huge back catalogue of samples to process with a massively under-staffed and under-trained team (it was quality control for a food/food additive manufacturer). Fucked up everyone's work, requiring Saturday shifts and people to be trained on stuff they'd never done before (and inevitably fuck up the first few times), just because the guy was too scared to say he was leaving since we all got along? Screw that, if you want to leave, give 2 weeks notice. It's not like the other job won't understand you need 2 weeks.

Play with your right hand. I'm left handed too, and that's the only way to solve it. It's part of the reason I never picked up the Wii, because after trying everything (especially Twilight Princess) it felt awkward as hell. Curious: Do you use a mouse in your left or right hand? For about 17 years I used the mouse in my left, then I picked up WoW, and it was impossible to play like that (keyboard turning with my right, and hitting keybinds with my left), so I had to learn to use my right. Never looked back, feels incredibly natural now.
  25. Recently completed video games

That's dumb, but I suppose unavoidable.
