I'm playing it on Blood and Broken Bones, and the first few levels were pretty tough. I had to pick my battles, make use of explosive barrels and scenery to split groups up, and it was great. But now I'm about level 14 and it all seems to have become a lot easier, only large groups of foes give me any trouble at all, and I seldom use potions/oils (tho I will sometimes just to speed things up)

Anybody on here still playing Chivalry: Medieval Warfarce? It's 90% off on Steam right now.

I was quite pleased when I found out that that woman had died. No, I'm not as callous as that sounds, but I thought it was neat how even though I had forgotten all about that quest, the game hadn't. That woman was still dying, still waiting for me to collect a cure for her, and I just never got around to it. So, she died.

Hi, I also liked Dead Money! Heard a lot of largely negative opinions of it before I played it, but I was pleasantly surprised. Thought it had a better sense of "place" than many locations in the base game. Old World Blues was my favourite though. Kept me laughing all the way through.

Anybody played Underrail? It's an isometric, turn-based RPG. Read a thread about it on Neogaf and it sounds good, lots of positive reviews on Steam as well.

Sorry to resurrect but did anyone see the article on RPS about the lockers in this game? One bit stood out for me: the alien learns where you tend to hide and will search there more often. But...does the alien only learn this if it catches you there (and kills you, natch) or is it some omniscient AI bullshit? I guess the latter. Anyway, there is some fine critique of this game in this thread, but I just acted to say again just how much the alien behaviour bothered me, and made the game much less enjoyable an experience

That goat, tho. He's a fine looking animal

I don't think the combat is any great shakes, to be honest, although it is improved from The Witcher 2. The game gets good when you meet the so-called "Bloody Baron"

Mod conflict, maybe? That's a pretty catastrophic bug, my sympathies

Once you've got a crossbow, you can hunt wildlife and chow down on as much raw, quivering meat as you can handle. And no, don't do that with herbs. It's good to pick them up from time to time, but yeah, you'd be insane to try and grab every single herb.

One other quick tip: dodging in combat does not use any stamina, but rolling uses quite a lot. Use your roll sparingly. Invest heavily in Quen if you're having a tough time.
-
Me too! Toblix, do you work for Hexcells/are a Hexcells?
-
Yep, puncturing drowners underwater is likely the best use of the crossbow, although it is quite satisfying tagging a flying enemy and watching them faceplant into the dirt at your feet

Master of None is boss, and makes me feel all warm and tingly on the inside. A touch too sentimental for my hard, British heart, at times.

Very entertaining. Man, those tentacles are brutal.

Doomsters, what's the best way of playing co-op Doom? Always used Zandronum for single player but the last time I tried to play online with that it was a non-starter

I like the sound effects in Quake 2, but it's a pretty ugly and largely tedious affair, I feel. Maybe if I kicked up the difficulty? Eh, got other stuff to play. (sweet railgun though)

Anybody wants Breach and Clear?

My girlfriend and I were talking about Up earlier, and how we loved the first half, but were disappointed when the baddie and his canine army showed up.

Southern Reach sounds great, will read it soon

1. Incredibles 2. Monsters Inc. 3. Wall-E Honourable mention to Ratatouille, 'cos its getting a right kicking on here. I think it's cute and funny. Don't like any of the "Cars" series

The City and the City is next on my list. The first thing of note about The Scar is that it is a big book, and not fast paced. At first I was a little wearied having read many pages with nothing much happening, but when events do happen in this book they are hugely significant and have usually been built up over many chapters. I believe the very first chapter introduces a mysterious presence, not to be mentioned again until about the halfway point, to give an example. Bellis Coldwine is a great protagonist, whose character is always true to herself (the same can be said all characters) and the antagonist, too, is exceptional - he's weasely and dishonest and cowardly, but he's also courageous and self-assured. I'd liken him somewhat to Steerpike from the Gormenghast novels. It was well done how his aims aligned somewhat with Bellis', but his methods made that an unstable partnership. There are some interesting larger ideas as well: what is possible and what is, and how faint is the distinction between what might have been and what was, as made evident in the lethal possibility sword. It's beautifully written as well, fantastic imagery and description and attention to detail throughout. The action scenes, too, are spectacular.

I think there's a DNB bit in Far Cry 3, when the player burns up some pensioners' allotment Edit: Cheers Merus and Griddle, you're echoing what I'm reading on Steam and elsewhere. Think Apotheon sounds like the one for me.
