  1. The Idle Broadcasts Thread

Didn't see a thread like this, so... Hello there! Do you have a Twitch/JustinTV channel? Do you broadcast yourself playing Video games/drawing/other stuff? Do you want to share those live broadcasts with fellow Idle Thumbers? Well then, this thread is for YOU. So yeah, if you wanna promote your Twitch/JTV broadcasts, you can do that here. Just take in mind of these guidelines: - Always post a link to your channel each time you're going live. - If you're planning a broadcast and want to promote before that time, be sure to post the day and time. Be wary of time zones! - Be sure to say what you're broadcasting. - Don't abuse this thread, don't want a crazy overflow of posts! Promote sparingly so that people can see other's broadcasts. - Be wary of people broadcasting at the same time as you! May wanna avoid that! I'll make an archive of Idle Thumbs Community Channels here for posterity. Also, it would be cool if the actual Idle Thumbs could promote their live broadcasts here as well? Some people usually miss the broadcasts because there aren't any clear announcements other than from Chris' Twitter or the Idle Thumbs Twitter, so here could be a great place to advertise them. If you're not broadcasting right now, but want your channel to be added on the list, you can post your channel here just for that. Wanna start broadcasting? Just download OBS. It's free and easy to broadcast with. Fuck Xsplit. So yeah! I guess I'll start the list with my own channel and the Idle Thumbs channel. BROADCAST LIST: I broadcast video games. Big surprise, no? I mostly broadcast old ass games or silly mods for old games. So yeah, post away!
  2. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Awful song, yet still hilarious, imo.
  3. Happy Valentines Day

(this is a fist of the north star thread now)
  4. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Great review, hits the nail in the head of some of the insidious contradictions Killer Mike and El-P often display in their music. However, I feel this reviewer seriously misread Love Again. First off, ignoring how, despite it's crudeness, it's very sex-positive and consensual in terms of how they talk about sex, an improvement from RTJ1's "Twin Hype", a half-baked pseudo-satire of creepy and overbearing men who think they're hot shit. Second, ignoring how the chorus change during Gangsta Boo's verse isn't just a shift from "dicks" to "clits", but how how the shifted verse acts is a lot more angrier, much more intense. Killer Mike's braggadocios "HEY" turns to a whimpy "Hey...hey...hey..." that you can barely hear over Ganga Boo's lines and the louder instrumental. She takes control over the song, it becomes hers. She plays off of lines El-P and Killer Mike say, showing that she's the big boss around here, that these guys, as she puts it, can't handle her "realness". It's monumentous as it is raunchy as fuck. It's a song about sex in a new era where people are getting more confident, open, and consensual with their relations. I'd even say it's one of their best songs yet. Other than that, I find this review extremely welcome and thoughtful. Personally, I feel RTJ2 is the duo at their most "performative" as the reviewer would say, and toit's conscious enough of its own 80s action-movie macho bravado that it feels more endearing than overbearing. Thanks for the share, though! Also, Noname Gypsy is the best and you should pay attention to her because goddamn just listen.

Not sure if I already shared this, but whatever.
  6. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AhXSoKa8xw In retrospect, this track kinda sucks. Beat is great, Kendrick's flow is fantastic. But it reeks of the worst kind of respectability politics. Pretty disappointed.
  7. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

You should check both their albums out! Also, Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music album and El-P's Cancer 4 Cure album. (ableist word used in the song and its title, so warning on that. It sucks cuz it's perhaps my fav El-P song)
  8. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Yo! Game Critic Heather Alexandra (@transgamerthink on the Tweeters, follow her!) has started doing critical LPs for games. Check out her first interlude and first part of her Shadow of Colossus critical LP. Also check out her writing! It's real good! (If there's another thread where one shares game critics' works, be sure to tell me!)
  9. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Reawakening this thread by posting this. The funniest shit that's happened to me in Spelunky. Also, dodging an arrow.
  10. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    I am speechless.
  12. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

Wait, what the fuck? Why is my location in South Illinois? It's not even in Chicago. That's not the address I put. o_O
  13. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

    Chitown, represent.
  14. They're taking my Freeze Peach!

Tegan and Apple Cider are on point. Here are my thoughts that I put into a Storify, Please bear my horrendous grammar and spelling, I made this at 3 AM. Thoughts on White Liberal Reactions to Charlie Hebdo, Free Speech, Satire, and Criticism by PoC.
  15. Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism

White guy video game journo musical chairs is real. Question is, what established game website is going to pick up another white dude from his previous gig now?
  16. Music of the Year!

Heyo! It's almost 2015, and we already got a thread on GOTYs (No Movies of the Year thread tho, hmmm...), so I thought, "Hey, music is cool. There was cool music this year. How about we talk about our fav musics?" Anyway, you can make your list or whatever however you like, but here's some suggested categories if you're thinking on that: - Best Albums/Mixtapes of the 2014 - Best Songs/Singles of 2014 - Best Music Video of 2014 - Song You've Played Most This Year (Doesn't Have to Be From 2014) That's all I got for now. Feel free to put links to the songs or w/e, unless it's already been posted. Be sure to give some sort of explanation to each of your picks! Make it one sentence, a whole essay, w/e. With that said, here's the best music I've heard from 2014! Best Albums/Mixtapes (In No Order): Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 2: El-P and Killer Mike at the top of their game. Booming beats by El-P, tighter flow from both El and Mike, as well as much cleverer and hard hitting delivery and lyrics. From songs about murdering and stealing, to songs about fucking, to songs about police brutality and the cost of poverty in America, this album has it all in intense, blood-pumping power. Way better than RTJ1. Here's a sample: Clipping - CLPPNG: Insane industrial glitch beats accompanied by Daveed Diggs' introspective lyrics powered by completely awe-inspiring flow. This is the pinnacle of experimental rap imo. Mick Jenkins - The Water: Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins releases his third mixtape, and it's absolute fucking fire. Smooth, watery (see what I did there) beats and amazing flow and lyrics by Jenkins. Along with people like Chance the Rapper, NoName Gypsy, and Saabo, Jenkins is another in a long line of amazing Chicago rappers. Flying Lotus - You're Dead!: FlyLo is back with his most personal, introspective, and cohesive album. Everything you expect from FlyLo is here: Jazzy, experimental, electronic beats of the most amazing kind. Best Song of 2014: Never Catch Me by Flying Lotus. I cannot stop listening to it. So anyway, that's all I could think of at the moment! Feel free to continue editing your list if you've listened to new stuff, or just make a new post!
