This game just makes sad. Not sad because of its narrative, but about how it seems to tell Irrational's general state of mind during the last year or so of its development. It saddens me because, unlike most people, I don't see this as a grand failed vision of some video game auteur, but rather an incomplete, messy, stitched together hodge-podge of a game. I have played the game four times and each time I play, I always wonder "Is this the game Irrational wanted to make?" I never got the impression that this was the work Levine and his team wanted to end up producing after years of work. Nothing, excluding the first hour and the divisive ending, exudes vision or focus. It felt like a game that was almost done, then broken into pieces, having many important parts taken out, and then stitched together at the last minute. I always was reminded of this article when playing. The time/dimension hopping thing in the narrative started to become less like a thematic idea or plot point, but more like yarn to piece together whatever was left from the game's already focused, set narrative. Levine has gone to say that he's used to stitching things together in his games, and Infinite feels nothing less than that: a stitching job. And its weird since this all happened right after it came out. People speculate whether this demo was real, but I feel it is. The demo is obviously very controlled, but signs such as the slight AI hitch at 8:!7, the somewhat awkward animation transitions in Elizabeth's animation, or the control layout look very definitive and ready make me truly believe this was an actual build of the game. So much was promised and that demo had it all. Open hub like levels larger than Bioshock 1's, an open skyline movement system, Elizabeth engaging in the battle by offering choices that were beyond just "open turret here"...hell, there's even the much touted idea that asking her for help was an important choice since it drained her energy and would this affect the game's narrative. All of it looks there, ready to be done, and the release date was early 2012...and then something happened. I have no clue what happened, and that's perhaps the largest tragedy of Infinite. There will never be context of the game's development, as that is tightly locked up behind contracts provided by the publisher. Leigh Alexander pleas for both journalists and publishers to be more open of a game's development, for the betterment of working conditions and game journalism. But when this kind of shift in privacy from AAA studios will happen I cannot say, but after playing Infinite, I can only beg for that shift to come sooner than ever. I beg for it because this is the studio that made me want to make games, the studio that told me you can tell amazing, weird, and exciting stories in games. Playing System Shock 2, SWAT 4, Bioshock, and Freedom Force created this vision of amazing creators, not just one auteur. But to see their studio crumble in secrecy because of a bad, messy, yet ambitious game...that just pains me. I literally cannot play Infinite anymore because it depresses me on how it reminds me of what was, what could it have been, and the AAA industry's cold, mechanical hand over its creation.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

This is a real movie and not a comedy. Really. Also, 1:51. That fucking destroyed me. -
Oh hey, I love it when a) someone links or references that video or any other video like it as a hand waving rebuttal to the serious discussion of how some things passing of as humorous and/or satirical are bigoted in nature and context, and when someone takes my being bothered at an offensive joke suddenly means that I'm all against the idea that jokes can be about any subject. There IS humor in anything. Some of the best comedians and works of comedy have been about being making fun about taboo subjects in society, but ya know what those comedians and works of comedy usually were? Smart, considerate, and actually analyzing/critiquing the topic they are roasting. Read: Louie CK talks about sexual assault in his comedy acts, but he fucking dismantles and destroys rape culture and masculinity in his stand up acts. For fucks sake, the rape joke in that Jimmy Carr videos takes a piss at the rapist and how people are stupid to not get them jailed, not making fun of the actual victim. Taboo subject? Yes. Borders on offensive? Yes. But is it a joke on the victim? No, and that's fucking fine, you can make fun of monsters and shit heads as much as you like. They deserve it. A smarter, more sharp-tongued comedian would utilize the subject of rape as a form of deconstructing society's ignorance and unwillingness to deal with that issue in a public and reasonable manner. A more rebellious comedian would, as I stated, take a shit on the people who actually commit rape as a way to comment on humanity's depravity or whatever. Because ya know, satire is about fucking making fun of the unjust, the absurd, the idiocies of mankind. How is making a "lol that guys is getting rape lol" level joke in any way a commentary on rape or making fun of it in a non-sophomoric way? This will sound uber douchey of me, but please, no one bother responding to this question and continue this convo in this thread, because I've derailed it enough. I'm already too agitated by this to even care continuing an actual conversation, tbh. I apologize for the harsh tone again. TL;DR: Everyone in the world please stop posting videos as substitute for an argument, any subject can be funny but you gotta be smart about it, no I don't wanna continue this convo, specially in this thread. Sorry if I sound angry, I am, but not at you but those who you think are insightful but aren't really. The End.

Ey, one of my favorite game critics interviewed Hot Scoops. Check it out! But please, for the love of god, don't think once of looking down in the comments. It is torture and hell down there.

How is rape, or the implication of it, funny, though. I mean this as a general question, not just in South Park. EDIT: Also, I'm fucking sick and tired of the whole "If you didn't like X, you wouldn't like differently presented or made version of X!" This fucking sentence has been used to excuse the content of a bunch of truly revolting bullshit, whether it be GTA5 or South Park. Just because I'm not a fucking fan on whatever truly problematic thing I'm criticizing doesn't mean that my opinion or critique on it should be invalidated to be "Oh well duh, of course you won't like it, and that's fine, it's not for everyone!" Bullshit, rape is rape and it's not fucking cool to reduce it to a fucking punchline, no matter what the fuck you are doing. And if you are, how about take a shit on the actual fucking people who perpetrate it rather than the victims? Look: If South Park was actually insightful and satirical (which it was, but not anymore/barely is now), I'd still not fucking buy it because of how they fucking treat oppressed people and make light of rape. I forgot who said it (I think it was Chris Franklin), but in satire, you don't punch down at minorities and belittled people, you punch up to those who are oppressing them. I apologize in advance for my harsh sounding tone and for bringing this issue in this thread, of all threads.

Thank you. You are now crowned Lord of The Internet. Hhaaharwahahaha, life finds a way. EDIT: Holy shit, this may be the best thing ever. Q: Mr. Goldblum, if you could splice your DNA with another organism, what would you choose and what would be your name? Jeff Cool Cool Goldgamegoldblumgamecool: Hahahaha. Let's see. Off the top of my head, I'd splice myself with a dolphin, and my name would be Surf Goldblum. This is killing me. But you know what they say. EDITx2: HOLY SHIT, THE WAY HE ANSWERS QUESTIONS IS JUST LIKE HOW HE ACTUALLY TALKS, THIS IS AMAZING.

Haha, rape, am I right? Haha, such biting satire. But yeah, thanks for telling us that. Now I have a better reason not to play it.

From the ashes of hell, a thread rises back. And with that thread, a dark Plinkett reveals 101 Wacky Jokes for Kids. These two videos reminded me of a similar joke book that I had when I was kid. There is one joke that stuck with me intensely, and I'll never forget it. What does Spider-Man do on the internet? surf the web

Fuck, I feel so fucking depressed and anxious right now, I feel I'm about to implode. Sorry for this deluge of emotions, but I feel I cannot express this anywhere else. I feel worried for my academics. Though I like to learn things, I am absolutely lazy and procrastinating when it comes to actually engaging with homework and studying. I'm on academic probation now because of my last semester shitty grades and I've managed to completely fuck up by continuing the same shit I did last semester, with the added shitty bonus that I haven't been able to complete these certain mandatory assignments for this thing called "Project Success" that I have to complete. Now, I have to attend the second Seminar (the first which I missed because I fucking forgot and I'm lazy as shit) and I'm scared because I don't have anything done and my grades, though higher than last semester, are still fucking mediocre as all shit. I'm worried because this may affect my financial aid and since I'm a poor fucker who lives with a single immigrant mom who gets payed jack shit, I'm scared that I won't be able to continue studying here due to economic reasons. Even worse is the fact that I may not even continue studying here because of my shit grades, and then I'd be breaking my mother's heart and have wasted both my time and her time, as well as her money in supporting my staying in this college. Fuck, I just hate studying and doing homework so much. Since I started high school, I have been lacking in motivation and desire to do any kind of homework or studying in anything, specially in sophomore year. Now, I feel those effects are coming back again, and it's just been my first fucking year in college. Add the fact that I'm living with a horrendously piece of of shit gross misogynistic, sexist, racist, and fuck head roommate who plays WoW till 4 in the fucking morning who I cannot stand at all, and that I have garnered no friends or acquaintances to help or support me... I feel just fucking empty and scared and anxious that I won't be able to stay in this college because of my fucking idiocy. I feel I'm about to go absolutely nuts right now and I don't know what to do, I just don't fucking goddamn know and I'm crying like a bastard and cannot stop. I just don't know what to fucking do.
