  1. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Remember when this thread was all about sharing terrible Batmans? Welcome to the official Final Fantasy interpretation of the Dark Knight.
  2. I really despise class action settlements that result in you having to use the company's service in order to receive any compensation. If you lose enough faith in a company to never want to do business with them again, then you get nothing. But if you remain a customer to the company that fucked you, you get rewarded. Everything about it is backwards.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

Well, it's important to remember context as well. Truman was viewed by some as a joke back then, a political puppet with a career orchestrated by Boss Tom Pendergast. Instead of being the "Senator from Missouri", he was jokingly referred to as the "Senator from Pendergast." Of course his actions and politics mostly refuted the idea that he was beholden to the Kansas political and crime boss, but you also can't separate his early career from the fact that he was only able to succeed because he had powerful political and criminal allies.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

Weird. I can't say that's something I've ever experienced. I've either earned an unfriending (almost always relating to politics, religion or being to open minded about sex) or its a person who just dropped off FB entirely. Sure it's not someone who just decided to quit?
  5. Non-video games

A faster paced Werewolf sounds awesome for more casual groups, or even serious gamers sometimes (though I do love the multi-stage nature of original). I'll have to pick up a copy of the One Night version.
  6. The threat of Big Dog

At least when the revolution comes, the world's greatest cultural achievement will be preserved: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=U0eS3zC3Jco
  7. I feel like a lot of the recent podcast titles could double as chapter titles in a book written from the perspective of a serial killer. Wilson's Ghoulish Countenance The Seed of a Sneeze The Eyes of Luigi KeLo. Is. Here (just for the weirdness of it) Cuberpunk Cop-Killer And That's Why Skeletons Fart That Way I Like the Hair Cavorting Amongst the Corpsees The Satisfaction of a Job Well Done (not by itself, but with all the others)
  8. Your Pokemon posts are entertaining, but I probably wouldn't look at them if they were in their own thread. I just don't have much interest in Pokestuff. So I say leave 'em here.
  9. Areal (aka S.T.A.L.K.E.R. / Metro 3.0)

Because they probably believe are risking libel if they say anything at all. I agree that I would like to have greater transparency on these projects, but I'm not sure how to achieve that without getting into really complex legal waters for KS.
  10. Feminism

I love advice columns, completely and unabashedly. It used to be something I kept secret, but I finally embraced it. The little peak into the windows of other people's lives is endlessly fascinating to me.
  11. Tested it, Baby is a banned tag by itself, but Baby Game works fine (wut?). Non-violent is still the better option, but now you know that you can tag any game you want with Baby Game.
  12. I took JonCole's point to be if you were using Cheat Engine while playing TF2, which is also how I took Tanukitsune's post. If he just had it running while in a single player game and chatting on Steam, I don't see any reason to worry. VAC only cares about MP games.
  13. Movie/TV recommendations

I've seen the first one a half dozen times, but I don't think I've ever seen the direct-to-video sequels (maybe the second one, or part of it, on TV years ago). There was also a TV show I know nothing about.
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

How about Tremors flavored cake with Bacon on top?
  15. As tempting as it is to try and be clever, something direct like non-violent would seem to be best. And it doesn't appear to be a tag that people are using. Edit: Forget that, Baby Games it is.
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

But is it the Tremors movie we deserve, or the one we need?
  17. Actual reading about games thread

WAT?! You can order back issues for $3.50. Issue 2 has the Gone Home piece in it. I just bought my first video game magazine in a decade.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

So a guy who made a Company of Heroes movie adaptation (and its sequel! (wait, what, these are things that exist?!)) has apparently got the rights to reboot Tremors with a new movie.
  19. I had completely forgotten about that. I think it was a pretty stellar piece of light armor for evil characters as well.
  20. The Internet has created a generation of stalkers. (I'm not sure if I'm joking or not.)
  21. Feminism

Highlighting that simply because it seems to essentially describe this conversation. I think we've all inferred things from each other's posts that aren't explicitly stated, and those inferences may or may not accurately reflect the intent. From my limited understanding of hair salons, it is quite a bit different though. A lot of stylists have their own customers independent of the salon they work out of, and those customers will follow their stylist to wherever she is working. She's just paying for space and equipment that she may not be able to afford to buy. Her clients are her customers, and she is the salon's customer (the power dynamic here can vary wildly between who has more power, a popular stylist or an in demand salon). There are likely certain cleanliness expectations for a booth, but in many ways a stylist has a lot of control (services provided, how much to charge, work hours, etc). A waiter would have none of those things. The restaurant would continue to mandate virtually everything about their job, but would just be charging them for access to the restaurant's customers. There's a fascinating argument that's been floating around for decades about whether or not tipping is even constitutional. We know that tipping leads to discriminatory behavior on the part of customers, servers and restaurants. And since restaurants use tips as the primary compensation for many of their employees, they are violating the equal protection clause and various federal employment laws. This matters to the feminism thread, as women make up around 70 percent of wait staff, and so are disproportionally affected by businesses dodging compliance with federal laws on non-discriminatory pay practices.
  22. Feminism

Yeah, technically I know that most of them do receive some compensation, but given the money to hours worked ratio, the chance to lose pay to fines, and the requirements to pay for many business expenses out of pocket, I don't think it's unfair to characterize it as essentially unpaid. The extra abusive fact is that cheer squads for some teams actually bring in plenty of revenue to pay the women thanks to merchandise sales and events where the team is paid, they just don't bother. I'm reminded of a restaurant owner I was once talking with, who argued that his wait staff ought to pay him for the right to serve food in his restaurant. His was a high end place, and it was common for servers to make $50K+ a year in tips. He believed that he didn't owe them a dime in wages, and thought it made more sense for him to get a cut of their tips, since he was being so generous in allowing them to profit from his business.
  23. Areal (aka S.T.A.L.K.E.R. / Metro 3.0)

It seems like in the wake of some of the controversies a year or so ago that Kickstarter has become a lot more sensitive about sudden and surprising funding jumps late in a project.
  24. XCOM Enemy Unknown

No shit, I've tried so many times to play original Xcom, and just can't do it. I'll have to fire it up soon. I also saw that Xenonauts is out of Early Access, and seems to have had a pretty positive reaction.
  25. The Fanart Collective

I'm beginning to think those Keep Calm shirts are secretly some big experiment to see if we can be trained into a Pavlovian-like rage response to the word Calm.
