I don't generally get angry about what other posters put in this thread, because I think that's counter-productive and I don't generally want to discourage people from posting in here. But your entire post is righteously fucked up. So, sorry, but I'm going to be fucking blunt. Stop. Stop trying to draw these tenuous comparisons between this and other possible situations. This is concern trolling. Trying to justify people harassing her and invading her private life by comparing her to an elected government official is misogynistic, because you're holding a person who makes free twine games up to the same standard as the people who make and enforce our laws. What the fuck is wrong with you for thinking that? It's bullshit. It's borderline evil. 1. The Internet is not her office. 2. The Internet is not her boss who needs to sit down and have a talk with her. 3. She's not an elected official. She's not even a public figure. She might be a limited purpose public figure, and that would probably be debatable. It in no way justifies the scrutiny or attention she is receiving.

Thanks! That makes sense, I was worried that the lack of info I was finding last night was indicative of the actual investigation falling apart. Self-quote FTW! On this subject though, Fark banned misogyny yesterday. New rules include no rape jokes, no gendered slurs and no victim blaming/shaming. Sounds like that's just a beginning, they'll fine tune it to keep the rest of the site as anti-misogyny free as possible.
  4. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The list of changes is pretty massive. Stuff I'm particularly interested in includes new characters, new chapter, baked in controller support that is supposed to be extra robust, daily run/challenge mode, additional challenge modes, and seeded mode that will support head to head speedrun races. The biggest for me is the ability to save/load a run midway through. I'm not a fast BoI player, I tend to play pretty slowly and carefully, which means a full run to the Chest is not a small time investment and one of the reasons I quit trying to get my last few unlocks was because I just couldn't justify the length of time a single run took me since I had to make it in one shot.

That's brilliant. What was the fallout of the investigation? I went searching, but the first few pages of Google results were all linked to that speech, or to the misogyny speech that PM Gillard gave.

I'm angry tonight. Well, I've been angry about this shit just about every night. But right now I'm angry at some of my friends and their ability to live up to the depressing statistics that were presented earlier about white folks caring about this. I spoke to a friend in StL today, and she was pretty blasé about it. A "can't this just be over" attitude. Then I hung out with some people tonight, and they all got kind of shifty eyed when I brought it up, and mumbled about how they hadn't really had time to pay attention to it. Same thing when I brought it up over the weekend with some other friends. My friends are the kind of people who get apoplectic about net neutrality. Who've actively campaigned for gay marriage. In a couple of cases, they're people who have live protested over women's issues and risked arrest in one case. They volunteer at animal shelters and take in homeless animals. It's not like I'm taking any sort of big action, I'm posting about it on social media and paying attention. I'm not going to let it be invisible, and pass quietly by like so many other atrocities do in this country. I just want to fucking scream at them. THIS IS IN OUR GODDAMNED BACK FUCKING YARD. This isn't in another country, or a thousand miles away on one of the coasts. I could be in Ferguson in 4 and a half hours. Four with good traffic and a heavy foot. I've actually thought about running over to StL. But I don't know if standing in solidarity would be helpful, or another outsider (and there may already be too many of those). Just fuck. Thanks for posting that, it's the calmest and clearest course of action anyone has presented.

GODDAMMIT KANSAS CITY. Try to not inflame the shit going on in the other side of the state. A KCMO cop is one of the people who helped spread an incorrect viral photo of a black man with a wad of cash and a gun, claiming it was Mike Brown. This pic actually showed up on my FB feed this weekend and multiple people were defending it as real.
  8. That just looks bloody fantastic. The hitboxes on weapons look really good. Also some great moments in there, like the scream going up the ladder or the wheelchair guy with the blunderbuss.

The racism (and blindness) of Missouri elected officials is beginning to seep out of them. The Lt. Gov. today gave this interview. Jump forward to the 8:30 mark for his interview. He starts off by advocating for "dawn to dusk" curfews. Don't be black after dark. Also don't have a night job. Then he drops these two nuggets at the end.

Replying to this whole part of the discussion, not just you two. I'm someone who cares deeply about media ethics. I've been in personal arguments with someone who sat on the board of the Society of Professional Journalists before about how the SPJ handled the ethical failings of a high profile journalist (the board member was a professor of mine in school). So I tend to take an extremely hard ass view on ethics in the media. That said, the culture of misogyny, hate and threat in the games industry trumps an ethics discussion in this case. This case is not about ethics, it's about destroying a target some people have hated for awhile. If you want an ethics discussion, I'd say talk about the way that the major gaming sites continue to foster the toxic cesspool that is our greater community. For some sites, their payroll depends on not alienating people who would do others in the community harm. That's a hell of a lot more important than the sex life of any person in the industry.

My wife and I are actually discussing a business move which could potentially make us (and especially her) much more visible publicly (and attract some possibly negative attention). It involves shifting gears from our current business to something she's passionate about (she's spent years helping me build my business, and I want to return the favor). One of the parts of our discussion is if it's actually better if we out some stuff about both of us now, in a low-key but public way, so that there can't be any gotcha moments once we open the new business. This causes her more anxiety than me, which I understand. But she's also reached a point where she knows this is what she wants to do, and is tired of being afraid of pursuing the professional life she wants.

Ferguson mayor claims his city is a "model community" for the transition from a mostly white to mostly black city population, 95 percent of the people support the mayor and police and there is no "racial divide" there.

I want to be clear that I'm not judging you. I think those thoughts are really natural for a lot of people. But part of the reason for it is the pervasive notion that women's sexuality is owned by men, or communal property to regulated by men (see all the legal bullshit about reproductive rights). This is an idea that most of us have been exposed to throughout our lives, without even being aware of it.

Also a CNN anchor suggested that perhaps using water cannons was a good idea. There are better videos than this one, but it's the first YouTube one I could embed that I could find:
  15. If you can get into it, I think you're in for a real treat. I played it once when it was quite new, and have never been able to replay it. I've tried a few times in the last 5 years, and it is sooooo slow. And then I hate myself for how much my patience has eroded.
  16. Feminism

I downloaded it this morning, but won't have a chance to play it until this evening. I wasn't aware that was one of the ways it presented itself narratively/mechanically. That's fascinating and brilliant.

This is infuriating. Jesus, what a psycho-fuck the ex-bf is (I went and found his post). We've all been hurt man, most of us don't write annotated manifestos with pictures. Also, it brings up a more general topic that I don't think we've talked about in here before, which is how much worse an accusation of infidelity is for a woman vs a man.
  18. Ferguson

I just got around to reading that. Fantastic.
  19. I had to look this up. It's SH2. Apparently looking at the knife repeatedly is one of the things tracked to determine what ending you get. I have to play SH2 now.

Had anybody linked to Kareem Abdul-Jabar's piece on Ferguson? I've spent the last 45 minutes reading through his column. I feel like I've been missing out not reading his views on things.

Another journalist was also arrested today, a photojournalist and former marine. People seem to now be referring to those arrested as political prisoners, which does not seem inaccurate at this point.
  22. Star Citizen

Yeah, it actually mystifies me why so many people would want to buy instant upgrades for the game. I was uncomfortable just getting starting gear in Dark Souls 2, and put the stuff away for the opening few hours, before realizing that it's mostly cosmetic (except for one shield that is pure gold in mid-level PvP). The building and progress element of a game is the part I love the most.
  23. Ferguson

It's probably absurd for us to debate it either way. Clearly there are people motivated by a variety of issues and getting justice for Brown is a big one.
  24. Project Godus: Don't believe his lies

That sounds so wonderful. I really do need to fire it up some night. I tend to have a lot more hesitancy to start up any strategy or simulation game over something simpler, in part because both the learning curve and total play time can be potentially much higher. That ends up being intimidating, so I just default to something that feels like it won't take as long.
  25. Ferguson

I'm not positive that this is entirely true. It was the prevailing spark, and it is still a rallying cry. But the situation and the crowd is a lot more complex than that.
