  1. Don't Starve

I'm highly likely to go ahead and buy it. We prefer our co-op to be same screen, but we each have our own PCs as well for the handful of games we love that don't support split or same screen co-op. That they're including a fully copy of DS in with the purchase makes that an easy call to make.

And arguably, the series will never have a fight scene with as much impact as the Vader vs Kenobi fight. Not flashy, but Kenobi is clearly just distracting Vader long enough for his comrades to escape. Simple, effective and shocking the first time you see it as a kid.
  3. Don't Starve

Klei announced that due to the persistent demand for beta access (which is still ongoing), they're adding an Early Access purchase on Steam on Monday. Together will still be a free update if you wait for final release, but if you absolutely must have it now, you can pay $5 to get in. Edited to add: Worth noting is that for existing owners, the $5 pack includes a copy of Don't Starve and 2 keys for Together. So if you have a friend who doesn't own the game at all, you can gift it to them. Sadly, local/couch co-op is not expected to be added anywhere in the foreseeable future, if ever. But with multiplayer being officially supported now, hopefully the modding community can solve the UI problem in a way Klei can't. I would take an ugly UI to have couch co-op. Never say never, but it's pretty unlikely: there are a lot of difficult-to-solve UI problems that crop up once you have two characters sharing one screen. The one idea I've had so far that I think would address them fairly well is to have a Don't Starve Twins mode where you're actually linked: shared inventory, shared crafting, shared health, sanity and hunger. But even then, that would be tricky to implement and isn't really even on our radar at this point. Plenty to do to make Don't Starve Together what it ought to be without adding a new mode to the mix (All that said, I agree that split-screen Don't Starve would be amazing. But I don't have my hopes up.)
  4. It is the Talos Principle. It does look pretty interesting. I was just amused by their current Steam advertisement.
  5. I don't think I've ever seen a dev have the audacity to cite IGN reviews twice in the same ad:
  6. Photos of things

I don't know what those trees are, I'm the worst at identifying plants and trees. The lady is a big gardener, and even though I've been looking at her flower beds for years, I don't know what 70 percent of the flowers are. We had a cold snap last week where we were below freezing for several days, but it hasn't been too bad so far. Getting up around 40F most days, which is way better than last year.
  7. General Video Game Deals Thread

Apparently it's down because last night people had already figured out an easy way to dupe gems.

The desktop site routinely sets me to insane European countries as my default language for some reason. I was thinking goobergate because the elf saying that 2014 must have been a rough year for gamers being naughty.
  9. My favorite books from the Scholastic Book Club were the Bunnicula series. Those are some of the only books from my childhood that I've made sure to keep.
  10. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Is it? I really don't know.
  11. Photos of things

They are, and the young ones would crawl out onto branches that I was sure couldn't hold their weight, bouncing up and down, swinging around, almost falling off every five seconds. And yet somehow none of them did.
  12. General Video Game Deals Thread

Haha, are they mocking gamergate with the accompanying comic?

It's temporarily disabled due to some glitch. But damn are the evil geniuses at Valve brilliant. People are going nuts buying all the super cheap stuff on the Market to stock up on cheap items to turn into gems. It's clearing out all the trash that's been accumulating in the Steam economy for the last couple of years.
  14. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I'm purely arguing for the sake of arguing, just to be clear that I'm not taking this super duper serious (it's Star Wars, so making that clear is probably a good idea). The application of modern day romantic/sexual/emotional norms in crazy, sci-fi societies is something I'm always fascinated by. A creator could explore a crazy variety of alternate ways that humans relate to one another, and yet so few ever take that opportunity.
  15. Photos of things

I mentioned quite some time ago that we have a family of raccoons that live around our property, who I'm regularly entertained by. Finally managed to catch them in a tree foraging while there was still enough light to get a few pictures. I'm a terrible photographer, but I managed to get a few fun shots. The little ones are insane. I was sure they would plummet out of the tree any moment. There were four young ones and mama, though the two pictured were the easiest to get good pics of. I've got a bunch that are just a hair fuzzy, shooting moving critters clinging to swaying tree branches in low light does not make for a great photo environment. The spoilered pic is cute, you can see one peaking his head around the left side of the tree, but it is on the fuzzy side.
  16. Life

Grayson, this isn't an easy thing for me to talk about (still), but I lost my brother to an overdose 17 years ago. I'm glad you're still around, and hope you find something to help.

Lust is, but the desire for sex is not necessarily lust. It's a biological imperative just like eating. And since we're talking alien species here, how that manifests need not match human norms or expectations in the slightest. I've never really bought the whole "Jedi rejection of emotion" thing anyways. None of them feel, as characters, particularly free from emotion to me.
  18. Serial - The Podcast

To be clear, I've found Serial fascinating and worthwhile as an experiment in this kind of storytelling, and I think it's done an excellent job of showcasing the difficulties in defending and prosecuting a case like this, and laid bare the kind of work that journalists go through. But I'm also finding it increasingly unsettling and unsatisfactory. Which is kind of interesting in itself, I'm rarely this conflicted about how I feel about something.
  19. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

You don't need love to have kids, just sexy fun times. And imagine the sexy fun times a Jedi could have.
  20. STAR CONTROL 2 IS NEVER A WEIRD REFERENCE!
  21. It seems like the console release cycle has to play a role in AAA games as well. We are just one year into this generation for the PS4/XO, and notoriously it takes time for devs to get up to speed (even when the consoles are developer friendly). Now take the Wii U. In its second year, and it feels like a decade or more since Nintendo got this much love from the core gaming audience.
  22. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

I forgot all about playing Capsule this year, how could I forget about that. Technically it got its Steam release, though it's been available from some other places for a couple of years. It's my survival horror game of the year.
  23. Feminism

The Montana legislature enacted a new dress code that appears to focus far more on what women wear than men. This delightful post shows examples of would, and would not, make the cut.
  24. Serial - The Podcast

Yeah, the show feels like it is going out on a massive whimper, exactly as a lot of people expected early on. I have to wonder if they are ending it earlier than intended, feeling it has gone off the rails some. You've got the ethical concerns about amateur sleuths trying to figure the story out. Adnan becoming upset this most recent episode over questions that have nothing to do with the murder, is he even interested in continuing to cooperate. There are so, so, so many people who just don't want to talk publicly about it (understandably). Honestly, two of the last three episodes have felt really pointless to me, like they have been drawing this out in hopes of getting other people to talk to them.
  25. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

I used Cheat Engine to spawn a dozen items at the start of a run. I don't care about legitimately making it, but wanted the unlocked items in my drop pools. I'd say its worth doing that. I still haven't seen the final item, but the other four items are all interesting. Three of them are quite unique in what they do.
