  1. PAX 2015

Phonetically the Chinese is like "Boh-lo bao" It's round and has a crumbly yellow crusty thing on top. The bread itself is kind of sweet too. I used to eat them like crazy as a kid.
  2. PAX 2015

I got to eat 4 varieties of Piroshkies while I was there and they were great! I mostly got stuff like ham, broccoli, beef etc, but next time I want to try some dessert ones. I also want to try the French bakery next time I'm there. The Chinese one smelled good but they didn't have my favorite Chinese baked thing which I don't even know what the English translation is >_< Thanks for the recommendation! Also for a nice I'm-on-vacation-so-fuck-it dinner I really like Brooklyn Seafood, Steak and Oyster House and Lecosho.
  3. PAX 2015

I'm at PAX wearing my Idle Thumbs Wizard logo shirt! I'll be at the Double Fine party wearing the brown Firewatch logo shirt. I definitely will eat at Piroshky Piroshky! I've been to five PAX Primes but never ate there because the line looked super long. But I'm realizing that's a stupid reason because if the food is good it's worth it Would love more food recommendations!
  4. Idle Thumbs 224: Ms. Petman

I didn't know the backstory behind Bad Blood, and now that I do it's rather disappointing :/ Also to Argobot's point I always wondered why in the heck they spend the whole video gearing up and looking badass, but then the very last is the lead up to just slapping each other in the face.
  5. Idle Thumbs 224: Ms. Petman

I could totally relate to the segment about Target furniture being a garbage piñata. I once bought a Target shelf for my DVDs that was 5-6 feet tall, but instead of having two side pieces 5-6 feet tall there were four piece that were each half the height of the shelf. The only way these side pieces held together were the useless wood pegs between the pieces (nothing to tighten them shut, they were just loose) and the shitty cardboard backing that was nailed onto the back of the shelf. Never again Target.
  6. Idle Thumbs 222: The Bubble Guy

Oh man this cast had so awesome stuff in it. HOT SCOOPS! I was trying to find that great Nick Breckon moment when he was streaming some with Chris. Then Chris starts staring silently at Nick upon which an amazing Breckonian moment occurs where he sees how long he can talk as Chris creepily stares at him. Which stream was that??? Also the question of "What is Nick Breckon?" never cemented for me until I heard the Larry David comparison and then it all made sense. Now I want to go back to listen to all those classic Nick Breckon podcasts.
  7. I'm loving this so far, and according to Steam I've already played 18 hours O_O. I played this all day yesterday until my reflexes and judgment turned to utter crap and I had to take a break. From what I've seen the bad reviews are just people who had hoped to beat the game in their first go and think it's bad that you have to start over. The only Steam reviews that are negative seem to be from people who think it doesn't control well which I think is unfair because it just controls differently than other platformers. By the time you have more mobility upgrades it feels great like you're a master thief. I've already gone through 200 days but I'm still having fun getting better each time and getting more upgrades in less time. It's fun to optimize the upgrade path and balance saving for upgrades or saving to unlock new areas which yield more money but are tougher to get through. I hope more people get the game because it's lots of fun!
  8. Idle Thumbs 220: Life Finds a Way

I agree about Alphabear's annoying mobile game monetization tactics, but it works for me because I only play it occasionally. I gained a new perspective on voluntary ad watching for free versions of games after hearing a story about a friend's 8-year-old son. For me I think it's cool because it's not in my face and totally voluntary but here's the story about this kid: He was playing Hungry Shark Evolution in which you can get coins by playing the game or watching ads. Well, this kid decided that instead of playing he'd GRIND THE ADS. My friend stopped him when he realized that he fully intended to watch 300 ads in order to get enough coins for a special shark instead of playing the game. Ugh. Also, the special segment jingles were great!
  9. Idle Thumbs 218: Yanis' Last Move

A friend of mine got a sunburn when he was waiting in line to get tickets for himself and some friends. Now that I think about it does that mean this was pre-Fandango or did they not allow online sales for Star Wars? I remember enjoying every moment a lightsaber was on screen, but then during all the horrible stuff I'd think to myself "Uhh, do I like this?" I even saw it a few more times trying to convince myself I was enjoying it because it's the first new Star Wars in ages, but in my heart I knew it was shit. That was also one of the first movies where I had seen the trailer so many times that it threw me off to hear the dialogue in the proper order.
  10. I've been more into this season than season 1. I enjoy learning a little bit about the characters each episode as the plot very slowly thickens. Season 1 was so heavy on the imagery and references that I often felt lost trying to decipher it all. I lost further interest when I saw articles like "The One Literary Reference You Must Know to Appreciate True Detective. I'll definitely watch it again with the podcast because I think hearing the analysis will help me appreciate it more. Also Matthew McConaughey's performance I felt stood out so much that it kind of distracted me from what he was actually saying (if that makes any sense). Also the actor who plays Ray's partner is Bill from "The Last of Us" !
  11. Idle Thumbs 217: To Have a Life

Bat Cow is in LEGO Batman 3! The great thing about LEGO games is that if the source material is good then the game is good, if the source material is terrible then seeing it in LEGO form is even more hilarious. I beat Arkham Knight, and didn't find the story all that interesting. And yes it by and large treats women as damsels and props which is gross. I still enjoyed playing it, but for me the grim dark broodiness of it only served to enhance the humor I took from seeing my Batman dragging through the water from an ill-timed grappel shot or "sneaking" in the Batmobile tank trying to stealthily take out large drone tanks as he casually bumps into (and therefore blows up) nearby cars while the enemy voice over says "WHERE IS HE???" I always loved the deadpan look on Batman's face after he grappels out of a body of water I just accidentally fell into. I always interpret my Batman as super embarrassed when he missed a ledge landing, and accidentally reveals himself to the henchmen. But under his breath he tries to boost himself up by saying "It's okay, I'm the night, I'm Batman."
  12. Idle Thumbs 217: To Have a Life

Yes there is! Though unsurprisingly it's not terribly complicated. It's just a few nodes and each one is a short "Simon" - like minigame where some buttons flash in a certain order and you have to repeat it. Still, I'm glad that they put it in. It's pretty fun to play through the movie scenes that are otherwise short moments. For example you get to heal the sick Triceratops by feeding her veggies, a popsicle and something else. Oddly enough even though they do use the original actors' lines from the movies there are some characters for whom they used soundalikes like: Nedry, Mr. Arnold, Gennaro and Dr. Wu. I haven't played through the other movies yet but I suspect it's a similar situation in those too. I forget which LEGO game was the first one that used lines from the movies instead of the pantomime mumbling cutscenes, I think it might've been LEGO Lord of the Rings?
  13. Idle Thumbs 216: Super Hypercast

Man I'd love to do some sort of super robot Idle Thumbs video, I just don't have the time and/or I'm too lazy. Too many funny little segments in general that I'd like to compile into a video >_<
  14. Her Story

Man, I LOVED this game. It's not often in a game's story where all the dots are connecting in my head and there's nothing actually in the game popping up like "ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! YOU'VE FIGURED OUT THIS PART OF THE MYSTERY!" I think it's one of my top games of the year so far. One lingering question:
  15. The threat of Big Dog

Robots now have tentacles 2x the thickness of a human hair which can precisely grab ants. http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/a15991/tiny-robotic-tentacles-can-lasso-an-ant/
  16. Idle Thumbs 214: Ship It, Droopy

Loving the Life is Strange game design and writing discussion. A lot of points I wouldn't have been able to articulate myself, but that I enjoyed hearing. It's definitely one of my top games of the year so far even if I find the dialogue goofy and just kind "Huh??" I remember seeing part of that First Person Shooter X-Files episode when it aired. I was already on the outs with X-Files and I think that was the episode where I finally stopped watching.
  17. The threat of Big Dog

There's a video of the robot that adapts to broken legs O_O https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=10&v=T-c17RKh3uE
  18. The threat of Big Dog

Will Smith from Tested got an interview with someone from Intel working on those robot spiders O_O He forgot the most important question: How do you kill them?
  19. Deus Ex Universe

Hell. Yeah. I've always thought about going back to play the director's cut because I wanted to see how the boss battles worked for stealthy players. Jensen wasn't very interesting to me, but his voice was so ridiculous I still enjoyed it. Also some of the dialogue responses were really funny. Moah cybahpunk stealth games!
  20. It's pretty safe to say that I'm obsessed with this game right now. I briefly hit a wall where I was just exploring all the areas to find where I should be, but I didn't mind it at all because the way the levels interconnect is just mind boggling to me. I love when I find myself back at a familiar place via a completely different and unexpected route. I've gotten far enough to unlock an area that is listed on the 2nd fast travel gravestone in the Hunter's Dream (I had to look this up because I was going nuts wondering why the lamp wasn't listed on the 1st one). Every new area is a mix of fear and exhilaration of discovery. My proudest achievement so far was beating I think the 4th boss on my first try! I just love love love how the game feels to play and all the discovery. I thought I was halfway through but now I have no idea how big this game is O_O
  21. Oh man, the sudden relief upon completing the loop in the first area was so amazing I just sat there for a little while breathing deeply. I managed to beat the first boss after three tries and then I started laughing from the release of tension. After that I had an uncomfortably long period time when I didn't die before stumbling upon Father Gascoigne who destroyed me. If I wasn't before I'm definitely hooked now. My next goal is to get a better handle on the parry/counterattack system because it's freakin' sweet when I manage to pull it off.
  22. I had a pretty good 1-2 hours last night where I've reached the point where I can fairly competently dispatch the human characters, and I'm starting to get a bit more comfortable with the more grotesque and large enemies. Before I quit for the night I had 3000+ blood echoes, had found a new area (still no lantern though) and something snuck up behind me and killed me. I think all I have to show for it are some items, a weapon upgrade, and the real life experience of getting a bit further and fighting new enemy types. Also I'm pretty sure I was thinking about Bloodborne when I woke up this morning But I'm still having fun and it's definitely scratching that Spelunky itch of "ONE more time..."
  23. This is my first Souls game ever, but so far I'm having fun. I haven't fully clicked with the game yet, but the more I play the more I understand the appeal of these games. I spent two hours yesterday playing in the first area, and after FINALLY finishing a section with a ton of enemies I chickened out, doubled back, and bought some new armor. I'm looking forward to exploring the levels and trying to figure stuff out. The combat systems alone should keep me busy trying to get a hold on them and deciphering the attacks and patterns of the enemy types. I anticipate my first boss battle is going to be a rough experience, but I'm still excited to play more!
  24. Ori and the Blind Forest

I just beat this after playing it all weekend and man I LOVED IT. It's been a long time since I played a game that felt like every single part of it was so tremendously amazing. The art, animation, music, story and gameplay are nothing short of phenomenal. Only sort of thing I was thinking about during the game is that I think the story could work without the text and "voiceover" because it does a great job of telling it visually. It's not often I play a 2D game where afterwards I feel like going back in just to look at the art, but I definitely have that feeling with this. Sort of like how I'll replay Naughty Dog games and just admire the environments. I can't wait to see some speed runs of this because there are a lot of secrets and hidden passages. There are only a handful of moments when I got truly frustrated with the gameplay, but often it was because I didn't quite figure out how I was supposed to solve an obstacle. Just one warning, when the game is telling you you're at a point of no return be sure to COPY YOUR SAVE. Once the game is completed you can't load your save to go back and get stuff you missed. I would've been super bummed had I not copied my save (though not SO bummed, because that would mean I'd just have to play it all over again )
  25. Twin Peaks Rewatch 19: Masked Ball

I LOVE David Duchovny's depiction of Denise. He completely lives in the character and his body language and mannerisms are fantastic. It's been a while since I've seen this episode so I was worried there'd be some sort of insensitive cringe moment coming, but the character is handled very well. Coop continues to endear himself with his gung-ho attitude. Major credit to the actors. As for James, maybe this dumb thing I made will soften the blow, or make it worse? This is all I could think of during this scene.
