Ben and Abby's enthusiastic yet very awkward friendship is one of my favorite recent Giant Bomb developments and I think the podcasts they do are a bizarre combination of completely awful and completely compelling.

Oh man, excited to check that out today!

I love the new hires, they seem to have been fitting in super well. I love the Vinny Abby duo, it makes for high intensity podcasting hah.

I would agree with that. For me, a lot of the fight is mental. I'm on meds now, but when I was more regularly going to therapy it ended up that the fear of the fear was what was setting me off, so someone talking about it like that removes some of the teeth of the problem for me. Obviously, if my problem was more severe, I doubt that would work and it would probably piss me off quite a bit.

Yeah, I know his tone can be a little off putting but I appreciate the open nature and candor Alex and Dan have had with their person struggles with Anxiety and Depression, it's actually made accepting my own easier and giving me the strength to talk about it to family, friends, etc. I think it has actually kind of helped remove some of the stigma for me weirdly enough.

I think SAM has hit the nail on the head of my own feelings on the situation in his previous posts.

Not that it really matters but pretty sure a lot of @midnight is pre-written

Yeah, it sounds like they were probably given prompts a little bit ahead of time - that still seems like a nightmare.

It looks like they are announcing a whole bunch of new MBMBAMand TAZ dates and the ticket sales go live on Friday. Will definitely hit up the Chicago date, I might actually try to drive down to TN to go see TaZ live.

  5. If I'm being honest, I kind of think everything outside playing the game itself is pretty...bad. Obviously it has great game-play, character design, music, etc but when it comes to UI, user experience, and actually playing online with friends I feel like its a misstep at every turn. It oddly enough mirrors my thoughts on Battlefield 1; it's fun to play but it shouldn't be this hard to get into a match with friends and shoot dudes/ink.

The way the online friend system works for me goes like this:

"Oh hey, miffy is on, I'll hop in his game!"

*wait a few minutes to get into the match*

"Oh crap, I forgot to swap out my weapon/clothing"

*hop out of game and fix it*

"Oh hey, miffy is on, I'll hop in his game!"

*wait a few minutes to get into the match and then matches on to enemy team*

Got randomly matched up against YoThatLimp this afternoon. Not gonna say who won (Ok, I will. It was me!), but it was fun to bump into a Thumb in the wild. Unfortunately, as my screen name right now is just "Pete", I doubt he knew I was up against him. Good round though!

Hey! I actually joined up on the game from the 'online friends' menu.

it's dumb it wouldn't put us up on the same team, but yeah you kicked my butt :P

True, it just seems like an odd choice :P

    * I'm actually a bit surprised that this game doesn't have an Overwatch-style end-of-the-match highlights for various players' contributions.

Oh man, this would be awesome!

It's not, you can do it online (solo or with friends) by going to a shack to the left of the... uh main central elevator lookin thing where you do versus matches.

Hm, I've been under the impression that its only online during certain event windows (ala SplatFest). Here's a snippet from polygon's review:

Salmon Run feels like a much more formidable part of Splatoon 2, especially for those in search of tough gameplay. The only downside? The mode is generally only available in local co-op; there will be online play, but only during special events run by Nintendo.

  9. It shares 4 gig of ram between CPU and GPU, I would assume they would want to keep their Switch OS as light as possible so they don't fall into the same trap as Xbox and Sony and need to reserve large swathes of ram for just the OS functionality. I'm not saying  it couldn't handle processing it, but I could see why they would want to leverage a device everyone already carries on them to offload some of that if they thought they could get away with it.

It's a pretty dumb setup either way, hah.

  10. The online Switch stuff is just...bad. I actually think its been kind of a detriment to my enjoyment of Mario Kart, I hate the lobby system. I hate having to try to organize this stuff over text/Discord. I understand they are probably using an external app because they can't afford to dedicate resources on the Switch - people forget it's a $200 tablet at its core- but man, the app sounds like a shit show.

Wow!  That came out great.  I've just been getting back into this lately.  I used to paint little D&D characters when I was like 14 years old (which was a wicked long time ago).

I started out by painting my Dark Souls: The Board Game player characters... I'm working on the Gargoyle right now:

Wow wow wow, those are so cleanly done, nice job!

  12. So I know we have a few DMs here who use Roll20 - do you guys have any tips to make Roll20 easier to use?

I'm running a pretty improv heavy 5e game and it's sometimes difficult to get things to go smoothly. When I have time to set up set piece encounters with nice maps and tokens it's great, but sometimes it just feels pretty clunky. I've been trying to incorporate more Theater of the Mind into my game but figured I'd check in with the experts.

I think the biggest choice in BS1 was softened in BS2 by allowing you to choose which character to start with. I know there is at least one character that almost always dies in BS1 but if you start fresh in BS2 I think he is alive. Im sure choices matter but I do not think there are many significant ones besides these and I do not remember any such dramatic choices in BS2.

    Can't wait for BS3!

Yeah there is definitely a few characters alive that definitely weren't at the end of my BS1 play through. I'm in the back half of BS2 and there are some interesting splits happening.

Same! I think the UI is rough around the edges but I have really enjoyed my time with the series.

Agreed, but you can see how that might come through a prickly, wounded pride from having him (seemingly) ignore her and run off with her friend for the last two games.

Yeah, it makes sense- I still didn't like it :P

Good writing overall though, maybe not a lot of subtle but it's nice there was a bit of choice there. I generally don't like romance/sex in games, but it's fun they kind of force the choice on you before the end of game.

Triss was the worst choice in the Witcher 1 at least. I'm still a bit bummed that the Witcher 2 didn't respect my choice and have Shani in it more.

    Agreed!
