  1. That's a heck of a deal if you are excited to spend $350+ on a video card.

The Witcher appears to be reviewing QUITE well. Man I should go back and finish* Witcher 2.

*Finally progress past the 4-hour intro sequence.

Yep, newegg had a GTX 970 for $300 with those two games, could not resist!

  2. Yeah, all the stories about cool multiplayer stuff got me to buy it so I can completely ignore the story.

Yeah, it was this thread and this video

    that finally convinced me.

I see some people are playing at 2pm today, probably can't then because of mother's day but will absolutely be on later.

  3. Resource Extraction Site bounty hunting is definitely the most profitable short-term game loop. If you want to do some exploring, buy a Cobra and outfit it with a detailed surface scanner, better FSD and a huge fuel scoop. Scanning planets and then selling the info to Universal Cartographics can add a lot of credits to your bank.

I find most of the "missions" available at stations too similar and unprofitable so I ignore them, personally. Currently in the process of saving money to buy an Asp because ship lust is as good a motivator as any. If we can get a private group together for Thumbs, I think you'd enjoy playing with other people--even the asinine stuff becomes fun when you're not alone.

Yeah I think playing with some people would make it feel a lot less lonely!

  4. Yeah, I've been the tech guy in my extended circle of friends and family for most of my life, but over the past five years or so, I've definitely taken steps to put limits on that, because I was tired of people driving their machines into the ground and then expecting me to resurrect them for another two or three years, with only tears and abuse if I somehow fail. I've gotten to the point where they get thirty seconds of diagnostic efforts and, if I can't find the problem or if it's going to be a multi-hour repair, I tell them to call their internet company or offer to format, and that's it.

You are a smart person. He called last night and I told him I am definitely not fixing the fan, he will have to find a place that does that. I had to spend 10 minutes on the phone listening to him bitch about the issues he has having on a $1000 laptop he bought "only" 5 years ago, blah.

On a happier note, just picked up a MSI GTX 970 which comes with The Witcher 3 and Arkham Knights which is sweet.

Well, fuck, of course it's no longer orderable... I guess PS4 became more desireable now... or maybe I should do a full upgrade of motherboard AND CPU -- 3 CPU generations have passed in 4 years.

[Edit] Hmm... I think my demands on the motherboard were a bit unreasonable based on previous purhcase. I just saw that some cheaper motherboards would be more or less ok, although I worry about the quality of the embedded sound chips.

[Edit2] Damn, well, the cheaper ones were not orderable either. But there was one ASRock Z77 board. Hope that works out, as I never had an ASRock board before.

From my own experience AsRock has treated me fairly well in the past reliability wise!

  5. I am fixing my cousins friends laptop as a favor and man, I am never, ever doing this again. Normally I have no problem doing this for people, but this guy has ruined it for all non-family members. So salty right now.

He tells me "I don't know it won't turn on":

    1. It smells like dog piss

    2. The hard drive is dead (this was accompanied a crying phone calls asking me to "find his files".

    3. Ordering the hard drive with my own money, until I see him next so he can pay me back

    4. His laptop's fans are fucked making this whining shitty noise, annoying me and scaring my dog

    5. I can't find his specific stupid wifi adapter, so I have to hunt around until I find the proper one (since of course he doesn't have the driver cd)

This is the second time in a year I've fixed this specific machine for barely a thank you, I am super over it.

  6. Man, I really am digging this game, because it is more even in leveling than dota is it is really all about big team fights all the time which is nice. I wish there was a bit more complexity, maybe a small list of items? Maybe just add wards that maybe spawn on a timer back at your base? I do like that there is so much variety to character builds.

I have noticed in the newb tier there are people probably playing with friends who will just group up at a lane and will refuse to help me even if my lane has 2+ people and I am a squishy support. My only real job is then to slow down their path of destruction enough  and hope the other lanes have more success.

  7. I made up some printable 4x6" monster cards for the starter set adventure, I always get lost when DMing and forget about enemy spells, and abilities. I think they turned out pretty good.

  8. I was really happy with my 970 purchase. I used to get mid-range cards because I thought that "can handle everything" was what I wanted, but "can handle everything well" is way better and worth the ~$75ish difference.

What kind of CPU do you have? I am looking to pick up a GTX 970 next paycheck. I am rocking a GTX 580 which still runs everything on medium/high, but would like to play Witcher 3 at more like 30fps.

  9. God, this game is so huge, I dropped off for a bit and am coming back to it and am almost overwhelmed with the size and scope of it compared to most games these days.

I actually used a tool and went from level 1 to level 5 of the "endless dungeon" which was a near fatal mistake

Also, that King Battle was a nightmare for me, I had to drop down the difficulty.

  10. I'll take Toki Tori 2 if nobody else wants it.

Shit, I am sorry I thought Humble was going to generate a steam key and instead they redeemed the key to my account. Really sorry about that!

I'll take Reus, if no one else wants it.

Sent a message with a gift link.
